Alcohol - haven't seen much sbout it
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Chazmataz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There's a lot of banded people who enjoy a glass of wine or other drink to wind down their day. I don't personally drink nightly but I do like a drink when I go out to dinner. Just be sure to count the calories so you don't go over your daily allowance and you should be fine. -
Anyone on Tamoxifan?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to dlkumes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have experience with that specific drug, but it's very common for surgeons to make you stop a lot of both prescription and OTC starting 2 weeks before surgery. I know I have to stop a number of mine before, too. The reason is either it will conflict with the anesthetic, put you at higher risk for infection, or pose a bleeding risk. Best wishes. -
Question About Post-Op Band
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to NLR1984's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's possible to lose weight without fills by consuming less calories than you burn. You have to remember, the band doesn't make you lose weight. The band is there to allow you to be satisfied on much less food for much longer periods of time. By controlling hunger, it allows you eat less, which results in weight loss. But the band itself has nothing to do whether or not you lose weight. Some people can tell a difference right away even with an empty band. Most people do need multiple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their bands. It can be hard in the beginning which is why we call it "bandster hell", because you're expected to eat like a banded person even though without adequate fluid in your band you don't feel like one. I have always lost from the very beginning, even before I had adequate fluid in my band, but I have also counted calories since the day I got home from the hospital. It was hard and I was extremely hungry but I stuck to my daily calorie allowance regardless. I knew I just had to be patient. Best wishes! -

Getting a stomach bug, need advice about vomiting.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to kileybug34's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can feel my port, too. In fact,I can even see it. But the issue is if you mess it up, you can risk all sorts of complications including life threatening complications due to infection. The risks are simply far to great. Leave it to the bariatric professionals. -
Tummy Tuck Before & After Pics

Thank you for the kind words They removed over 12 pounds of skin. I actually am getting my drains and staples out today (yay!), but even with all the swelling, I know I've dropped a full size in shirts already. I went into the hospital wearing a snug XL top and today I'm wearing a L top that fits perfectly. My pants literally fall off of me, which is kinda funny. Because of the binder around my middle, I don't feel them slipping down so I don't realize I'm about to moon the room until the crotch of my pants are at my knees and yank them back up LOL! I plan on buying pants over the next couple days but I know I've dropped at least one size if not possibly two. -

I keep prescription anti-nausea meds on me at all times. Zofran, to be specific, which is what they actually give to chemo patients to keep them from vomiting. The minute I feel even remotely queasy I take one as a precaution. Perhaps your doc would call something in for you? Btw, doing self unfills was mentioned above me. Please, do NOT do this. It's about the worst and most dangerous advice I've seen. The only person who should ever touch your band is a bariatric professional trained specifically for fills and unfills. -
Holy cow, I have to tell you, you're a better woman than me. Mother in law or not, I'd have ripped her face off and told her off big time. She has NO right to speak to you that way!!! Perhaps you can talk to your husband so he can speak to his (rude) mother on your behalf? You really don't need her drama and negativity.

Wrong choice?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to aufan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look at the big picture- does it really matter how fast or slow you lose? All that matters is that you have lost weight and are still working towards losing. Fast forward two years from now: You and your friend are both at your goal weights. Does it matter who got there first? Nope. This is your journey. One of my favorite quotes is "comparison is the thief of joy". Stop comparing yourself to her and embrace your own success. -
How do I cook for my husband and myself?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to MrsLadyHawk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cooking healthy meals is good for both of you. The only difference is, you can eat a small band sized portion and he can eat as much as he wants. -
Any bandsters with MS?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to crafty_lady1971's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ironically, I weighed over 400 pounds when I got my Lap Band 16 months ago. The biggest reasons I did this was because I was convinced if I didn't do something I wouldn't live to be 50 years old (I'm currently 39). Plus, I knew that if I ever did reach a point I couldn't care for myself, being 400 pounds would make it extremely hard on those trying to take care of me. I've lost over 200 pounds since I got the band. It's so drastically changed my life for the better. Getting the band is truly the best decision I've ever made for myself. Good luck on your journey. If I can do this, so can you -
Heartburn night two...

It's possible, but it could a number of other things, too. I wouldn't get upset until you know what's going on. Either way it's good you're going to see your surgeon. -
Yes, dehydration is a very real risk. You need to go to the ER. Call your surgeon's office (I'm assuming they have an emergency number) and let them know you're going to the ER. This way, he can either meet you there or give the staff instructions. Worst case scenario, go to the ER and get IV fluids but don't let them touch your band. Then go to your surgeon immediately tomorrow.

Noticing the loss
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to utkscvol1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't notice it until considerably after others did. But when I did, the first place I really saw it was in my face. I also saw it in my feet and hands early on, too. In fact, my feet shrank from a 10W to an 8 1/2M. -
psoriasis,,,cyst..?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to stept04's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only connective tissue autoimmune diseases and a few specifically listed gastrointestinal autoimmune diseases are contradictions to the Lap Band. This is per the Allergan website. Psoriasis isn't one and isn't listed so you should be fine. -
That's not a sign your band has slipped. If you're hungry more often then you likely still need more Fluid in your band to control hunger. How much you can eat isn't a sign of a slip or needing a fill, though. The band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything. This is why it's important to stick to band sized portions regardless of how much you can actually eat. Concentrate on how well your hunger is controlled not your food intake. Best wishes.

I need someone to kick my ass...

All the foods you are "cheating" on slider foods so you'll be able to eat a lot of them without bad side effects. You already know the answer- STOP. Get it all out of your house. Throw them in the trash. If it's not accessible then you can't eat it. Head hunger and food addiction are powerful as well as dangerous when left unchecked. It's going to suck but you're going to have to white knuckle through it awhile while you detox your system of all the crap you've been eating. After a a couple days of not having them the cravings will slowly start to diminish to a tolerable level. It won't be fun but it's necessary if you want to get back on track. Also keep in mind your pouch never actually gets "full" and if it does you're likely eating too much. Food passes through the band in less than a minute, it doesn't pile up in it unless you're eating way too fast and too big of bites. This is why it's so important to stick to band sized portions, take small bites, and pause between bites. You know what you need to do- so do it. Best wishes. -

Yes, go to their profile and hit the "report" button. Then, copy/paste the PM and state why you're reporting them. Alex is really great about handling stuff like this.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would check with your doctor or nutrionist, but if you know the right carbs to eat on the high carb days for a diabetic I wouldn't think it would be bad. You'd just have to be sure you're not making your blood sugar spike. I'd check with your doc to be safe. -
Any bandsters with MS?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to crafty_lady1971's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have MS. The band and losing weight can't treat or cure MS but losing weight has tremendously helped symptoms effecting my legs. I used to need a cane just to get around my home and now I walk two miles a day without any aid. -
Desperate for answers...

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry! First, I'm shocked your doc hasn't called in a prescription anti-nausea med. I actually keep some on hand at all times. I would call and ask for one. (I'd insist on one) Are you still taking pain killers? Is it possible you're allergic to something new you're eating, like the Protein shakes? Was any Fluid put into your band at the time of surgery?
