You have to focus on yourself and your health, not some guy and not your friends. You have to do what is best for you regardless of what they like or agree with. This is especially true of your ex. Let's face it, he's been your ex multiple times for a reason. Obviously there's some real issues there and if he can't accept you at a healthy weight then there's yet another sign it's time to let him go. But please, don't make the mistake of sacrificing your health for an "ex". As far as skin, yes chances are good you'll have some. Some people are lucky and don't but really it all boils to you. Genetics, skin elasticity, how long you've carried the weight, age, and whether not you smoke. All these things play a role in excess skin. Speaking from personal experience: I've lost over 200 pounds and I have a lot of excess skin. But, I'll take the skin over the fat any day. I can easily hide the excess skin and still look great. There is absolutely no hiding 200 pounds of fat. Best wishes on whatever you decide. -
surgeries going bad

Excellent point. I had a staph infection after a hernia repair surgery last August and blood clots after a tummy tuck last month. Both should've been simple surgeries yet both had complications. It happens and it's the risk we take anytime we go into surgery. But... like you..I've had zero complications with my band. -
Day 2 of being banded and 2nd stage diet?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to txflea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You stay on liquids until your doctor tells you that you can progress, no exceptions. Either call his office or ask at your next appointment. -
Yes, in fact that is the Lap Band's job, to control hunger. The ideal is to be able to go at least 4 hours without hunger after eating a cup or less of food. Speaking for myself, I'm rarely hungry. Sometimes I even forget to eat meals because of it.

First month weight loss

The average weight loss rate with the Lap Band is 1-2 pounds per week. You're way over that average. -
Calories during puree stage

That's way too little calories. You need nutrients and Vitamins to heal. Talk to your nutritionist to get a healthy goal. -
Calories in-calories out=?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Mizz_Megan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well for one, you shouldn't be basing your calories on what MFP says, it should be based on what your nutritionist recommends. You have the band so you shouldn't be eating as much as a "normal" person. Chances are very good MFP is suggesting you eat a lot more calories than you should be. Go see your nutritionist. They are who you need to establish realistic eating and calorie guidelines. -
If you're vomiting and can't even swallow your own spit then you need to go to the ER. Not only are you risking a slip but also severe dehydration. Otherwise, if you feel you can make it until morning, go in for a small unfill ASAP tomorrow morning. There really isn't anything else you can do. Best wishes.

The Green Zone is when you have adequate Fluid in your band. Clinically speaking, it's when you can go at least 4 hours on a cup or less of food without hunger. Granted people differ but that's the general idea.

Fills after surgery in Mexico?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Bandakat412's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Unfortunately, no there is no data for international patients nor is there any regulation on them. This is s big part of the problem. Records and info for future doctors will always be completely up to you to provide. -
Fills after surgery in Mexico?

Any doctor is going to want your medical records when taking you on as a patient. So, they will inevitably find out you had your surgery in Mexico. There is a very real possibility they could deny you based on that but you won't know until you try. I would just be honest and up front. It's the only chance you have. -
Anyone have dizzy spells?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Laurie8855's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I really don't think it's dehydration. I am in the bathroom constantly because I drink so much water. I mean, not to be graphic, but when I pee it looks like just water because it's so diluted from me drinking so much fluids. My doctors all seem to think it's no big deal, but it makes me a little nervous. -

man you sound just like me. I keep an electronic blood pressure cuff in the house in recent months because I've grown curious about it. I just took it and it's 110/70- but I'm also just sitting on a recliner. But, there's been times I've actually gotten tunnel vision, muffled hearing, and heard my heart in my ears and come dang close to passing out. The weird thing is, it usually happens right after I go from sitting to standing or a little while after exercising, never during exercise. -

Not the band but after losing a lot of weight. When I weighed over 200 pounds more, I had VERY high blood pressure. Now that I've lost all the weight, my blood pressure is always low. -

Same here. No meds but my blood pressure regularly sinks. It was 90/54 when I was discharged from the hospital this past Tuesday- which seems to be "normal" for me now and has been for months. I too have been told it's dehydration but I am drinking Water or green tea constantly. I was recently told that being huge for so many years, our bodies got used to over working to pump our blood. Now that we're smaller and active, our bodies are going "oh wow, I can chill!" and that's why our blood pressure is so low. I was also told it's not uncommon after big weight losses and once our systems get used it we won't even notice it anymore. *shrugs* -
Eating too much?

First, your problem isn't the fact you can eat those things, your problem is that you're seriously jeopardizing your band and health by cheating on your post op diet. Your stomach has been manipulated and stapled. It's now extremely injured and swollen. You're supposed to be on liquids to give it time to heal but instead throwing hot dogs and potatoes into it? Very, very unwise. You need to go back to your post op diet, stick to it religiously, and tell your doctor what you've done to make sure you haven't done any damage. And for the record- even when you do have adequate Fluid in your band you should be able to eat those things with no problem. The band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anything, it's job is to control your hunger. Have a look at this link: http://drsimpson.net...estriction.html Get back on your diet. Best wishes. -

I've had near fainting spells from low blood pressure, too. I'd get very light headed when going from sitting to standing. -

You need to speak to your doctor. All we can do is guess based on our own experiences but the truth is, the cause could be something as simple as needing more calories or as serious as a true medical problem that needs attention. Call your doctor. You don't want to risk overlooking something serious. -
I would have to say no. Breads aren't a soft food, in fact, they're one of the most likely foods to get stuck. I personally wouldn't risk it until you're on real food again,

If there is a history of clotting disorders or you are deemed high risk. I was deemed high risk back in 2008 because I weighed over 400 pounds, smoked, and was totally inactive. I was required to get one before the surgeon would repair my hernia.

It's a filter inserted via the groin into the vena cava, the main artery from the legs to the heart/lungs. In the event of blood clots, it's supposed to catch the clot so you don't die of a pulmonary embolism. If I hadn't had one, I'd be dead right now. I'm not trying to be dramatic but my IVC filter saved my life.
-
They are most certainly not a waste! If I didn't have the IVC filter, I'd have been dead weeks ago. There was so much clotting trapped in the filter that they had to go in via angiogram to remove the clots from the filter because it was almost completely blocking the vena cava. The filters do make clotting worse when they occur, but I'd rather have a worse clot than a pulmonary embolism and die.

Oh my goodness, I just saw this thread! I am so touched! Yes, I was really sick. Truth is, I was in the ICU for 8 days dealing with severe blood clots. It was really scary and to be honest I'm really lucky to be alive. If you want to read about what happened, I made a blog entry here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/blog/6349/entry-26062-a-warning-about-blood-clots-grahic-pic-beware/ I'm very sorry I couldn't pop on. When I originally posted that clot status, I didn't realize the severity of it all. Soon after I was airlifted to another hospital and spent the next 5 days totally immobilized on my back. Needless to say, anything internet wise was the last thing on my mind and totally impossible to even do. And yes, my real name is Missy. PattyGirl626 on these forums does know how to reach me in real life so in the future if someone is worried, you can always PM her. She'll know for sure where I am and what's going on. But I am home and doing well recovering. It's going to be a long road but I'm alive so I'm happy Love you all!!!

LAPBAND DIDN'T WORK FOR ME
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to pstevens9@cogeco.ca's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well statistically speaking, it's true. Only 5% of band complications are by no fault of the patient. That's not a band complication that's a patient complication Well unfortunately history has proven common sense isn't so common. Many people go into this surgery totally ignorant to the facts and expect their band to be magic fix fat while they continue to mow down on McDonalds. If you read thread after thread, you will find tons of people who talk about how they're not losing weight but they do nothing to count calories or measure portions, either. So yes, sometimes telling someone If you eat more than you expend then your not going to lose weight IS the best advice we can give.
