Alcohol?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Banded72513's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask your doctor. Some restrict alcohol the first 6-12 months after surgery. Others allow it after you're fully healed 4-6 weeks after surgery. It all depends on your surgeon. -
Gowalking is correct. There is nothing anyone can do to help at this point. If your liver hasn't shrank sufficiently then there is a very real risk the surgeon won't complete the surgery for your own safety. I would be honest with your surgeon. If he chooses to reschedule your surgery to a later date it's still better than going into surgery and coming out with all the scars but no band.

It's really important you figure out the cause of the reflux, stuck episodes, and vomiting before getting the Lap Band. All these things can lead to band slips and erosion so it's important they are addressed before surgery so you don't put yourself at heightened risk for complications. It's also important to make sure there isn't an underlying medical condition that would be contradictory to the band. Best wishes.

For me, the difference is hunger. Because the band controls my appetite, I feel satisfied on very little food. Whereas before I had the band I'd be starving all the time so constantly grazing a preoccupied with food. Now, it's no longer an issue. Plus, because it takes so little food to satisfy me, I don't feel deprived. Btw, you get food stuck and slime now? Without the band? Why?

Anyone have a slipped or eroded but was still able to keep food down?

You need to see your bariatric surgeon immediately- not an ER doc or family doctor. Only a bariatric surgeon is trained to identify problems with your band. And yes, you can have a slip or erosion without vomiting. -
I personally believe in moderation, not deprivation. There is nothing wrong with what you ate. I would just be sure to count the calories towards your daily allowance. Btw, I eat bread all the time.
-
Very bad idea with the band. The main ingredient is Glucomannan powder. This essentially absorbs Water like a sponge and expands in the stomach- which is supposed to help suppress the appetite. You don't want anything expanding in your stomach below the band. It would put you at risk for slip. Besides, why bother with useless gimmicks anyway? If you have the Lap Band there's no need for them.

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for following your post op diet and healing not losing. Right now, giving your stomach time to heal is the priority. Btw, losing 3lbs in 2 weeks is actually right on par with where you should be. The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week. You've lost 1.5 pounds per week. Best wishes.

2nd fill but something weird happened
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Maxjam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You may not need a next fill. The goal isn't to fill the band, the goal is to have enough Fluid in the band to control hunger. Some people accomplish that with a totally empty band. Others have a lot of fluid in their band. But, the amount of fluid in your band is irrelevant. All that matters is how you feel and how well your hunger is controlled. Your stomach may shrink as you lose weight, but again, it's unnecessary Can you go 4 or more hours on a cup or less of food without hunger? If so, you may not need another fill. If not, you may need a very small one. Keep in mind a fill as little as .1cc can make a world of difference. -
2nd fill but something weird happened
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Maxjam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just because your band can hold 11cc doesn't mean your stomach can accommodate that much. The band gets tighter around your stomach with each fill. If fluid was coming back up as the doctor was trying to fill the band, then that is because it's already tight and the pressure against the stomach is forcing the fluid back out. -
confused pre op vs post op

Every doctor has their own post op diet regimen. You will need to talk to yours for further clarification because we don't know his rules. -
Anybody start with an excessive amount to lose?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to bmj851's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The way I handled the daunting amount to lose is by focusing on small goals, not the big picture. For instance, my first goal was to get under 400 pounds. Then, to be under 350. Next, to be under 300 pounds, etc. My most recent goal was to be under 200- which I am now. If I'd had focused on being under 200 back when I weighed over 400, It would've been WAY too overwhelming. I also found focusing on milestones helpful. Getting under 350 was big because then I officially weighed less than when I had my son in 2002. Being under 280 was big because that was how much I weighed the first time I tried weight watchers. When I got to 231, I was over-joyed because that's how much I weighed when I got pregnant with my now 18 year old daughter. Same thing with sizes. When I got down to a 26/28, I was over joyed because I could FINALLY shop in stores again. Before that, I could only shop online because clothes weren't sold in 46W or 7x locally. I was excited to get into a size 18 because that's the size I was in when I graduated high school. Try focusing on the smaller goals and milestones. It makes it much less daunting and feel a lot more obtainable. -
Lost enough weight to question need for lap band
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to oogie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely agree with the others. If you think you can do it, by all means, I say go for it on your own. Worst case scenario- you change your mind in the future and decide to get the Lap Band after all. Like the others, for me losing the weight has never been the issue. I've lost hundreds of pounds since I was a teenager. The problem is, I always regained the weight plus some. Losing the weight is fairly easy- the tough part is keeping it off. With the band, maintaining the weight loss is a lot easier. -
Anybody start with an excessive amount to lose?

I'm not done losing yet, but I think I've done pretty well so far. When I got the Lap Band surgery 19 months ago, I had 261 pounds to lose. So far I've 227 pounds and I'm still losing. Only 34 pounds until I've hit my goal. I've gone from a size 46W to a size 14 Petite. In fact, just this week I tried on a size L sweater that was too big but the size M fit. I haven't fit into a M anything since junior high school. I very much believe you can lose 300 pounds. I believe a person can lose as much weight as they're committed to lose. -

4 oz three times a day
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Lorettanjgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat a maximum of cup of food per meal though usually less. I have no problem getting in at least 60g of Protein daily. I eat about 1200 calories a day. It's actually very simple because the band controls your hunger. -
Still swollen after fill
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to petiteflower70's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Always call the doctor when you can't keep liquids down. Dehydration can happen very fast and is dangerous. Even more so if you're vomiting- vomiting is major cause of band slips and should be avoided at all costs.. -
Pancreatitis isn't caused by the band. However, losing weight by any means can result a bad gallbladder, which when severe enough can lead to Pancreatitis. Are you banded? Having problems?

Lapband or sleeve?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to suchsh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I absolutely love my band. It's saved my life. I've lost 227 pounds in 19 months and I'm still losing. Getting the band is the best decision I've ever made for myself. -
rebanding after erosion?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lauragshsu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've not dealt with that, but I do know most surgeons are very reluctant to reband when there is erosion and a lot of scar tissue involved. A lot of times it's not an option at all because of the amount of damage to the stomach. Many opt for the Sleeve rather than rebanding. I would talk to your bariatric surgeon and see what he says. He knows your situation and what's best for your health. Best wishes. -

People notice portion size...what do you tell them?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to MissE44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tell them the truth- I choose to eat human sized portions rather than giant sized. American servings are ridiculously huge and it plays a large part in why as a society we're getting fatter and fatter. You will actually hear of people coming here from other countries and gaining weight from the suddenly giant servings. -
You can lose as much as you're willing to work to lose. If you want to only lose 60% then great but it's completely in your control whether you lose 10% or 100% of your excess weight. I've lost 227 pounds in 19 months and I'm still losing. That's 87% of my excess weight. I know of many on here who've lost 100% of their excess weight.
