How many calories are you eating and how much does your doctor say you should be consuming?
-
Yup Guy is right. Not just hiatal hernias but abdominal hernias, too. They're often caused by obesity and fixed at the same time someone gets their band.

Not losing weight
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to solanoam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss comes down to simple math. When you burn more calories than you consume, you lose weight. It's great you're exercising and eating less but unfortunately less food doesn't necessarily mean less calories. If I were you, I'd start tracking your calories so you're sure to not accidentally consume too many. Best wishes -

To Band or Sleeve..that is the question??
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Lovely Lioness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
95% of slips and complications are due to the patient's fault, not the fault of the band. Chances are very good you'll never have a serious problem if you follow the rules of the band and your doctor. Research the facts on both surgeries so you can decide which is best for you. Good luck. -
NIGHT TIME HUNGER :(
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to ladyjordan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For me, the key is figuring out if it's physical hunger or head hunger. More often than not when it's at night, it's head hunger. If it is head hunger, I distract myself to ignore it. If it's physical hunger, I have a low calorie/high Protein snack. Like Jim, a spoonful of Peanut Butter works wonders. So does some string cheese or a half cup of cottage cheese. -
What Am I Really Doing To Myself
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to adugan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please keep in mind a fill won't stop you from eating- especially not slider foods like Kit Kats. The band's job isn't to physically stop you from eating anything, it's job is to control your hunger. If you're eating due to stress rather than hunger then it's unlikely that a fill help. Have a look at this link, it may help: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-made-simple/Lap-band-surgery-restriction-slips/Lap-band-surgery-restriction-slips.html Best wishes. -
Question about losing the pounds
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to kelli coley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week so you definitely can't expect to lose every day. In fact, you can't even expect to lose every week. You have to remember, the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't come off overnight either. The best thing you can do is to track your calories, stick to band sized portions, and exercise. If you do these things the weight will come off. Best wishes. -
Numb areas after surgery?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to annanyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes there is local numbness after any surgery because nerves are damaged and/or cut. Most of the time the feeling will come back over time but others it can be permanent. When in doubt, always ask your doctor. I had a tummy tuck this past May and still have a lot of numbness all the way across my lower abdomen. It happens. -

Congrats! The only other thing I can think of is a robe because they will have you up and walking very quickly and those hospital gown are notorious for flashing your bottom. Good luck! -
Losing weight but no fun to be around.....

If I were in your situation, I'd be getting full blood work up to make sure everything is ok. -
Omg so excited... Flight advice needed!!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Zingythingy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds fun! Granted this is strictly my experience and my doctor's advice, but he said there's no reason to unfill a band just for airline travel. I had no problems when I flew last winter. Hopefully your flight goes smoothly too. -
How long did you wait ?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to skinnyboundsky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
If your surgeon says 6 weeks then it's 6 weeks. It would be foolish to go against his advice regardless of what anyone says or does. -
Realize makes two bands, one is 9cc and the other is 11cc

I've honestly never heard of it that early unless you have some severe violent vomiting or the surgeon messed up. That's not to say it's never happened, mind you. I've just never heard of it.

There is a certain satisfaction seeing your exhusband, who cruelly berated you for being fat and cheated on you, and seeing the look on his face as he comments "how great" you now look. Is it wrong that I get immense satisfaction over the fact his girlfriend has gained a ton of weight while I lost it? *grins*

Loosing weight and feel doughy!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to runt71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a guess, but it's likely because you're feeling the skin leftover. Excess skin has a doughy feel. -
Worried about safety
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to SpartanPrincess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly, no I wasn't worried from a logical standpoint. Emotionally- I was nervous. But logically I knew that statistically speaking the odds were incredibly low that anything would go wrong. -
You look beautiful!

I've actually never had a fill with fluro. So yes, it's possible and done often. -
GI problems and protein powder
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to silly_weasel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree, it could be a lactose issue. I do find a lot of Protein makes me feel very gassy and bloated. It was much worse when I was first banded, but since my body has adjusted to my new way of eating, it's a lot better. -
Sorry I thought of another one lol. Special K makes 100 calorie snack packs of chips/treats. They'd be another good thing to bring with you for a snack along the way. They're not exactly healthy but they are low calorie and you won't risk getting stuck eating them. They have both chips and pastry crisps, you can find them in the granola bar/cereal aisle of most stores.

When I flew last winter, I brought a couple protein bars in my purse. This was perfect for me because they're very satisfying (I had ones with 10g of protein) plus they are small and don't break any airlines rules.

Met Surgeon: November 5 it is!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Bandista's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Belated Happy Birthday!! I'm so glad you like your surgeon so much. I truly believe a good relationship with your bariatric surgeon is really important because he's going to be a big part of your life, especially the first year. I have a very good relationship with my surgeon and I know he genuinely cares about me as a person. I truly believe it's been that good relationship with him that has played a large part in my success because I've had such good aftercare. Best wishes!
