When Are You Full And How Do You Know?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to 2muchfun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I definitely do get that full feeling on a cup or less of food. If I continue a bite or two past feeling full, I'll get a huge lump in my throat that can be a little painful. I also seem to burp right as I get full, too. If I go too far and get that lump in the throat sensation, I get the hiccups. Also, I can go 4-5 hours without hunger after eating. -

Trouble Getting In The Water!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Mom2many's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't get nearly enough Water in during the day and I know it. I try, I really do, but I'm lucky if I get 36oz a day in plus some diet iced tea. Not eating during meals and being unable to drink for an hour after eating makes it very difficult. -
I also think either you misunderstood her or she's grossly misinformed. I am very much in the Green Zone and I definitely feel full. VERY full. I can eat between 1/2c-1c of food at a sitting and I'm full for 4-5 hours after eating. When I am eating, I'll burp a couple times and get this tight almost lump feeling in my throat. I know when I feel that, I can't take another bite. I'm done.

that's awesome! best wishes to you, it's going to be a start of a whole new life!

Decided I wasn't counting calories for today only. Apparently, the band counts for itself. I had one Reese's peanut butter egg and promptly got the "full signal". *laughs*

How Big Of "sips" Can I Take?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to NewMissB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you'll be able to take normal sips and drink liquids "normally" again. Once you're past the post-surgical phase and all the swelling is down liquids should pass with no problem whatsoever (unless you've been over-filled, in which case you'd need an unfill anyway) For now, just stick to little sips. You're stomach is still very swollen and you need to be very gentle with it. When I was in the hospital, they had me drink 1oz every 15 minutes to get a feel for how often I should be drinking and how small a sip to take. Best wishes to you. -
Gain Help?.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to flab u less's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is in starvation mode, that's not even half the calories a day you should be eating. I'd up the calories to 900-1000 a day and go heavy on the Protein. -
Stuff Coming Out Of Scar
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Karma88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will sound weird, but do you see a little black speck in it? Or even a clear one, kinda like super thin fishing line? You could have an internal suture that didn't dissolve trying to work it's way to the surface. I've had that happen before. It doesn't hurt, it's not red, and there's no order so I really wouldn't worry about it unless it grows in size or continues to ooze. -
Start over from scratch, see a nutrionist, and act as though you're newly banded. It's the best way to get back on track.

How Much And How Long??
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Ami Faught Crittenden's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutrionist always says we should be able to eat no more than a cup of food. With that said, I can't eat that much. 1/2c to 2/3c of solids is the limit, any more than that, I get my full signal. Sometime even less, for instance I just tried to eat 2 hard boiled eggs and only got one bite of the second one and immediately got a lump in my throat. -
Swelling After Fill...any Advice?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to kittyforet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wouldn't go to the local ER either if I were you. Not unless you absolutely can't keep any liquids down whatsoever. I've heard too many horror stories about under educated ER docs really messing up people's bands. Can you keep any liquids down at all? Worst case scenario, you may have to go the ER for IV fluids if you're not but that doesn't mean you have to let them touch your band. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope you wake up in the morning and suddenly find your band a bit looser and able to eat at least some mushies. -

Thank you for sharing your story- I think we all can learn from it. I have read similar stories to yours, people getting unfilled thinking they can do it on their own, or eating around the band, and they all seem to end up where you are. You've obviously been through a lot, but it's great you are getting back on track before gaining everything you lost back. I have a lot of respect for you for going back in, getting a fill, and starting over. Best wishes to you, I'm sure you'll be just as successful as you were originally. -
Lap Band Is Not Reversible. Why The Sleeve May Be A Better Choice.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to crystalny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Then don't respond, however for someone who claims to not put merit into anecdotal evidence, you sure do cite a lot of anecdotal evidence as your "facts". Newsflash, YouTube is anecdotal evidence as is citing the experience of someone you know. You keep talking about this research you've done, yet I've not seen a single actual source. Can you please post the case studies, done by actual medical researchers and listed with AMA and FDA, you've used as research data? -
Swelling After Fill...any Advice?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to kittyforet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was pretty tight after my last fill, but if you're having problems swallowing liquids (which it sounds like you definitely are ) I'd go back into doc, or call his office for some advice at the very least. I'm no expert but it sounds like you might be too tight. You might want to try some warm liquids, like tea, and see if that helps loosen you a little in the meantime. -

You're posting here against the band. You have never been banded, and so far all you've done is post completely incorrect information and not a single shred of actual facts from your so-called "research". Let me give you a small piece of advice, getting your "facts" from a previous post on an online forum is a recipe for disaster. Try getting your facts from actual factual sources. -

Anecdotal evidence? I'm not speaking from anecdotal evidence. If you can cite reading personal stories on forums as "facts", surely I can simply give experiences of people I know in real life rather than strangers online. I'm not entirely sure why you're posting here, to be honest. If you decided the band wasn't for you, wonderful, best wishes on your journey with the sleeve. But trying to convince people against the band, with a bunch of misinformation at that, is quite uncool. Just say'n. -
5Cc In Band And Not Satisfied
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Khloè33's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everyone is different, it all depends on your stomach and band position as much as it depends on the size of the band itself. Some are restricted with very little in their bands (or rarely even an empty band) and some need quite a lot in their bands to feel restriction. Hang in there, it'll come -
Lap Band Is Not Reversible. Why The Sleeve May Be A Better Choice.

Actually it's pretty common for people with both Gastric Bypass and the Sleeve to stretch their pouches and gain weight. In fact, that's the reason Carnie Wilson is currently getting the Lap Band after already having Gastric Bypass. She stretched out her pouch and gained weight and is now getting the band in an effort to correct it. I know seven people that have had either Gastric Bypass or the Sleeve, and every one of them is gaining weight back within a couple years of surgery. Every one of them slowly began eating more and more and eventually stretched their pouches and now there's nothing they can do to correct it. Again, to each their own, but I'd check your facts. -
Introduction
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to tonyabuntin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! You sound like a lot of us, many failed diet attempts with no lasting result. I know I tried pretty much every commercial and fad diet under the sun before I finally got banded. I personally love my band and have had good success with it. I think the hardest part for me is learning the difference between head hunger (i.e. emotional eating, boredom, etc) and real hunger. Thankfully, thanks to the band, even if I do have a moment of weakness the damage is minimal due to the small amount I can eat anyway. It's still work. We still have to make good food choices and make lifestyle change forever. The band is a tool, not a magic bullet. I think that's where I see people mess up most often- they get banded and continue eating crap food, then wonder why they haven't lost weight. You must do the work yourself, you can't expect the band to do it for you. I do love mine, though. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Best wishes to you and much success -
Did you recently have a fill? If not, I'd get into the surgeon ASAP to make sure you don't have a slip. In the meantime, I'd try cream Soups, pudding, Jello, etc. Pretty much go back to the full liquids and/or mushies diet. Really though...do get into your surgeon as soon as you can.

Your Full Signal?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to JJLaw08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same as cakekelly73 too. I feel like there's a huge lump in my throat then burp a couple times. I know that's my cue to stop eating immediately. -
Lap Band Is Not Reversible. Why The Sleeve May Be A Better Choice.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to crystalny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually, you're wrong. It IS 100% reversible. If the band is removed your stomach simply goes back to the way it was pre-surgery. If you have damage due to a slip or prolapse, you may have some scarring, but it doesn't remove any portion of your stomach or re-route your digestive system in any way. Not so with the Sleeve, you can't replace a huge portion of your stomach that's been cut out. As for the Sleeve, people don't go in for reversions because they can't. More than half of their stomach is removed, there's nothing to revise. If you look at the long term statistics, people gain back weight with the Sleeve and Gastric Bypass just as often as with the Band, the difference being, a Band patient can always go back in and get a fill to start over. A Sleeve patient will have likely stretched out what's left of their stomach and pretty much be screwed. ...not to mention there's FAR less chance of major complications and/or death with the band. And the recovery time is half of that of the Sleeve. I respect your decision to go with the Sleeve and wish you much success, but your information isn't exactly accurate.
