    Stand Still

Waitingpatiently offers good advice! Sometimes you need to "shock" your system into going, either by doing a temporary increase of Protein or good carbs, depending on which works best for you. I also agree, I'd try to notice size change rather than weight change. There's a good chance you're not losing pounds right now but are losing inches.

Dont Be Scared To Read You Will Learn From This I Did

Thank you so much for sharing this! Your experience will likely help others from making the same mistake. The fact you're right back at it, despite the set back, is very encouraging. I have a lot of respect for you. Keep us posted how you're doing, I'm sure you'll do great!

    Starvation Mode

I wasn't aware of the fact this was a competition, I was simply sharing research knowledge with others. I'd have shared it if had failed as well, it just so happens the researched proved true in my own life.

    Starvation Mode

Sorry but thanks to Google, anyone can find an article to back their argument. Here's one that explains what starvation mode is and how it CAN effect you: "While a starvation diet may help you lose weight quite fast in the short term, you will pay a heavy price because you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of weight problems. Your metabolism gets progressively slower with each day you remain on a starvation diet. This resultant slower metabolism needs less fuel, so you consistently have to eat less and less to lose weight!" For the full article, look here: http://optimalbodywe...ode-weight-loss Perhaps "starvation mode" is a poor thing to call it, but as stephyanders mentions above, eating too little can adversely effect your metabolism by slowing it. Everyone is different, and everyone's body processes calories differently. Not only calorie amounts but types. Some say "no carbs!" but some need and do well with good carbs. Some can loose like crazy on only 800 a day, others need a minimum of 1000. I have done a lot of research on the topic of calories and calorie types and have found the whole "less is more" isn't necessarily true. I had been eating about 1000 calories a day the first 2 months and had steady weight loss. However, I'd slowed a lot and only lost 7 pounds last month. So, after my research about calories and metabolism, I upped my calories a mere 200 to 1200 daily. I have lost another 23 pounds this month since increasing my calories, bringing my total weight loss to 81 pounds in less than 4 months.

    Sweet Tooth

Dole makes a cinnamon apple crisp cup (they come in a 2 pack) that is amazing. I put it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it's like eating apple pie without the guilt. Skinny Cow also makes some great frozen treats, like carmel ice cream bars with chocolate drizzle for only 100 calories each. They also make little packets of candies and Cookies for 100 calories a packet. When I know I'm going to cheat if I don't ease my sweet tooth, it's one of these Skinny Cow products I go for. Also, Jello makes some really great sugar free pudding.

    Starvation Mode

Yes, starvation mode does exist, however everyone is different. I eat between 1100-1200 calories a day and lose consistently, despite the fact Lost It (the app I use) says I should be eating like 2700 too. So for me, it works and I'm not in starvation mode. What does your nutrionist say you should be eating daily? I would follow their direction over that of anyone on here or myfitness.

    Should I Get A Fill?

But you shouldn't be restricted to only those foods. I mean, you're eating with a baby spoon, so it's not too big of bites. What did your doctor say? I would insist on scan/barium swallow to check the band and make sure it's still right where it belongs.

Yes, it can. Are you afraid yours has for some reason?

    Bmi Too High...

I agree, you might want to find a doctor who will do the surgery despite the BMI. If you look at the ticker at the bottom of my post, you'll see my BMI was a whopping 72 when I had surgery. Even with the horribly high BMI, I had the surgery without a problem and wasn't required to lose weight before surgery. Hang in there, it's worth it!

    Should I Get A Fill?

I would definitely talk to your doctor and tell them about the sliming before deciding on a fill. Is it possible you're over-filled??

    Should I Get A Fill?

I would talk to your doctor and see what they say. Are you able to eat a cup or less of food per sitting? Can you go 4-5 hours between meals without being hungry? Also, you talk about phlegm (aka sliming). Are you taking small bites and chewing it beyond thoroughly? When I say small bites, I mean like the size you'd serve to a toddler, really small. I know for me, this is key to eating without sliming or feeling stuck.

    Advice On Diet

Just something else to point out, carbs aren't the enemy if they're good carbs. I don't eat bleached/processed/white/enriched breads or Pasta, only true whole grain. I stay away from chips but I do eat low fat Wheat Thins. I still eat carbs I just make sure they're good carbs. My nutrionist told me a minimum of 60g of Protein a day, no more than 125g of carbs, and no more than 20% of daily calories from fat. Even with all the carbs (twice as much as protien), I have still lost 81 pounds since Jan. 6. Obviously, in my case anyway, eating smart carbs works well for me. Everyone is different and you'll have to find what works for your body. Just don't assume all carbs are bad, you might be surprised how well your body does with them when you choose good ones

    Advice On Diet

Congrats on doing so well so far!!! I know right now it's hard to get in more calories, but I would be willing to guess you're not getting nearly enough and your body is going into starvation mode, holding onto everything you eat. Is there a way you could work up to even 1000 calories a day?

Do I Need To Get A Fill On My 5 Week Post Op Appt?

I agree with your others, talk to your doctor and together decide if you need a fill. Typically speaking, people don't start having complications after they start getting filled, but rather the band forces them to take tiny bites and chew thoroughly and if they don't they vomit or slime. It's fill that give your band restriction and help control our portions and appetite. For the record, I've had three fills (possibly a fourth tomorrow, not sure) and there isn't anything I can't eat. I've never vomited, either. Being banded with good restriction doesn't mean you're doomed to a life of no breads, throwing up, and being stuck. That's a huge misconception.

Does Anyone Else Feel This Way??

I've been been banded just not quite 4 months, and I've lost quite a bit of weight, and I'm definitely in the Green Zone with my band. I have good restriction and I'm rarely hungry. ... but I do still battle with "head hunger". I just want a snack or to graze. It's a constant learning process.

    On Week 5 Post Op.

Something I'm finding is that we have to often play with our diets to figure out what works best for our bodies. I was only eating 1000 calories a day and my weight loss started to slow. I increased my calories to 1100-1200 a day and lost over 20 pounds this past month. Obviously my body needed more calories to kick-start my metabolism into working. Believe it or not, a slight increase in good carbs can help sometimes too. When I say good carbs, I mean whole grain. Nothing white, bleached, or with the word "enriched" in the description. I'd try adjusting your diet a little, see what happens. It's all a learning process.
  19. Over 80lbs lost now. If I can be down 100lbs by my birthday in June, I'll be SO happy!

    Pain

I had percocet in the hospital via IV, liquid vicodin for home after.
  22. I wondered the same thing. Every lap band patient I have read about in the last 4 months didn't have any stitches to be removed, including myself.

    Green Zone

Cazzy is right, it's different for everyone. For me, it's satisfied with a 1 cup of food or less and I feel full/satisfied for 4-5 hours without being hungry.
  24. It sounds like you are having gas pressing on your diaphragm, which is normal and will pass. The only way to ease the gas is moving/walking. A common misconception is that Gas-X will help with the gas pumped in during surgery. This isn't true because the gas isn't in your digestive system, it's in your abdominal cavity. If you're having indigestion or digestive gas pains it'll help only. Walk as much and often as you can to help your body reabsorb it faster. As for the nausea, as odd as it sounds you may want to drink some tea or something else soothing. For some reason, it's more likely on an empty stomach.

Second Day Is Better Than Expected

Colace is a great preventative. It's a softner, not a stimulant laxative. I started taking it the morning after my surgery and continued to take it daily until I finally "went". I know from past experience that pain killers and anesthetic can really bind you up, so I that's why I started it right away. If anyone is trying to avoid it, I'd start the Colace immediately. Oh and congrats to the new bandsters
