How Do I Get Unstuck

I find sipping hot tea helps. I also find bending over can coughing (or even a big burp) can help, too. -
Question About Restriction
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to NWgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not an old timer, as I've only been banded 4 months, however I too get that tight feeling in my throat. Almost like a lump in it. I often will start burping or hiccuping, too. For me, that is my cue that I am done eating. I do measure out my food, too. If I'm done with a cup of food, or say a Lean Cuisine portion sized meal, I stop eating regardless of whether or not I get my full signal. After a couple of minutes of stopping, I always end up noticing I feel full anyway. -
3 Weeks Post Op And Gaining!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to byggyrl78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Every surgeon has a different post-op diet to follow and every nutrionist has a different daily diet they want us to follow. I didn't have real food until 6 weeks after surgery. Trust me, it was a LONG six weeks lol. I was freak'n starving! My nutrionist says at least 60g of Protein, no more than 125g of carbs, and no more than 20% fat. Very different than a lot I see on here eating very little carbs. Just another example of drastically different offices think when it comes to WLS. But it also is further proof that at the end of the day, we all must do what works best for our specific body and lifestyle, regardless of what anyone else says or does. -
3 Weeks Post Op And Gaining!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to byggyrl78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sometimes you need to play with your diet to find what works for you. First, are you on real foods or still on mushies? That makes a big difference because mushies limit your choices, making it harder. Also, the first month after surgery is about healing rather than weight loss and it's not uncommon for people to gain a little before they get a couple fills and have some good restriction. With that said, everyone's body looses differently. Some do great with high Protein, others can still loose while eating a lot of carbs along with their protein. The same is true for calorie intake. Some will lose like crazy consuming less than 1000 calories, others need more. But, if you're not getting enough calories, it will greatly slow down your metabolism. 800 calories a day seems like a very small amount. I was consuming about 1000 calories a day and my weight loss suddenly slowed. I increased it to 1100-1200 a days and now the weight is just melting off again- I lost 23 pounds in the last month. For me, I needed more calories to kick my metabolism into working. -
Priceless Nsv

that's awesome, congrats!! -
You said an MD, is this MD also a bariatric surgeon who performs Lap-Band surgery? If not, then yes, there's a good chance he'd miss a minor slip if there was one. If he wasn't a bariatric surgeon, then I would definitely get into one for a check.

Omg....cant Lse The Pr-Op Weight!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to hopeo71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest reason surgeons require a pre-op weight loss to help lessen the risk of complications during surgery and to shrink the liver. The liver of obese people is very enlarged and fatty, and in order to access the stomach for Lap-Band surgery they need to be able to work around the liver. If it's all fatty and enlarged, not only does it make it extremely difficult to access the stomach but it also raises the risk of accidental injury to the liver during surgery. The good news is, the liver is one of the very first places we lose weight, and when we lose weight it shrinks. This is the biggest reason for pre-op diets and why it's so important to stick to them. I agree with stephyanders, I'd go to a full liquid diet between now and when you weigh in if you want to lose those last couple pounds. -
What was their reason for not filling you? And how big is your band?

Rollercoaster=Flipped Band

Wow, so does that mean the protection bar knocked your port loose? If so, I hope others read this thread and keep it in mind when going to amusement parks. From what I understand, if your port flipped then that means the sutures holding it in place have ripped/come loose. The only way this can be fixed is by surgery to re-attach it. Best wishes to you, -
The Thrill Is Gone!!!

I'm truly sorry you're struggling so badly. I hope you find renewed strength and dedication to succeeding soon. Sojourner offers some VERY wise advice. First, call your surgeon and make sure you're not dehydrated. Not only is it bad for your body in general but it's very bad for the healing process. Second, you really need to take a step back and look at the big picture. No one said this would be easy. Trust me, it's not. I had my surgery almost 4 months ago and I still remember how horrible it was spending 4 weeks post surgery on liquids. Yes, FOUR WEEKS of nothing but liquids. It sucked so bad and I was so hungry, but I also knew it was so tiny in the scope of the big picture. That is exactly what you need to do- you need to look at the big picture and the changes you want. If you throw up your hands and say "screw it" after only 8 days, you're never going to make it through the long haul. Being banded is work, and the band is just a tool, it's up to use to use that tool for maximum results. I promise you, it's so worth it if you're committed to health and willing to make the changes necessary to get there. -
Well they're scars, typically speaking scars don't go away. There are lotions and creams you can buy to help fade them, though.

Can You 'feel' Your Band?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to JessRess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first fill I could definitely feel the liquid going into the band, it was an odd sensation. I can't feel my band, but I can feel when food is just sitting there or when it slips through the band. -
Saggy/ Deflated Breast?

I'm down 81 pounds and my breast look really bad, I have to admit. I plan to have a breast reduction/lift once I reach goal (and insurance will cover a reduction!) -

I agree with Denise, a night cough is a warning sign of being too tight. I would definitely contact your doctor sooner than later. -
You Must Eat To Lose!!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Jenelle1434's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't work out at this point. I walk when I can. My situation is unique in this regard because I have Multiple Sclerosis, making working out very difficult. If you're working out regularly and making good food choices, maybe your body needs 100-200 calories more a day than you're getting? I'd play with your diet if I were you. It's the only way to find out what works for your specific body. -
You Must Eat To Lose!!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Jenelle1434's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jenelle1434, I think a lot of people have this problem but don't realize it. They keep cutting more calories or increasing Protein but still don't lose because they're too afraid to increase calories. I did the same thing, btw. I was eating about 1000 calories a day, increased to 1100-1200 daily, and have lost another 23 pounds in the past month. -
What Would You Do If Something Happened To Your Band?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I lost my band, the next step would be sleeve for me. I've always sort of thought of it as the natural progression. First diet alone- that failed, so I got banded. Should the band fail, next would be sleeve. As Denise said, I too need some sort of surgical intervention. -
Losing My Hair....could It Be Related To The Lapband?

I know anesthetic can make some people's hair dry and thinner, too. To those posting about Biotin- thank you! I'm definitely going to look into that before my next surgery! -
First Time Food Stuck
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to I love lucy lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No your band is fine. I've had that happen a couple times and like you, never threw it up. I get this huge lump in my throat and my chest feels like there's a bag of bricks on it. I almost want to pound my own chest to ease it but it doesn't help. I then start sliming big time (gross!) I'm sure your band is fine -
Do Fills Hurt?

I've had 3 fills so far and never felt a thing. Not even a poke. -
Yes that is exactly what sliming is. I've never had food come back up or vomited, but oh my mouth fills up with slimey saliva. I feel like a Bull Dog slobbering on a hot day LOL!
-
If you are self pay, co-morbidity are irrelevant. I would see a new surgeon immediately, get all your pre-op testing sent over to their office so you don't have to do it again, then go from there.
-
All the time!! I am constantly asking myself "I am really hungry or is this head hunger?" I can't tell you how many times I've sat there sliming because I ate a bite too much because I was full yet because of head hunger kept eating.

I agree whole heartedly.
