Question Hub Asked That I Dont Know---So I Am Asking You

I don't think it would hurt it, but the whole purpose of the pre-op liquid diet is to shrink your liver before surgery. The liver of obese people is usually very fatty and enlarged, and the surgeon must be able to move around the liver during surgery. If it's enlarged and fatty, there is a much greater risk of accidental damage to the liver. Thankfully, when we lose weight, our liver is the first place we lose, hence the pre-op liquid diet. Hang in there, the liquid diet isn't fun but you'll be so glad you did it later
  2. Ah ha! I'm taking teeny tiny bites, like the size of my pinky nail, and chewing til mush as well as pausing between bites. SUCCESS!!

Unable To Keep Down "real Foods"

I was just filled on Monday and am currently dealing with that as well. However, if it hasn't improved by Tuesday I plan on going back in for a slight unfill. Not being able to eat isn't normal. With that said, I also know it takes me a good 5-7 days after a fill before I can truly return to normal, hence why I am waiting a week. Your husband may not be far off in his advice. I know after the fill before this one, I had to truly change the way I ate. I had to take very small bites, like the size you'd feed a toddler, and chew until the food is absolute mush. I always use a fork, even with things like sandwiches and pizza, so I don't accidentally eat too big a bite. I have to put my fork down and wait a good 30-60 seconds between bites. All this was learned by trial and error. Perhaps some of this may help you? Best wishes.
  6. I was fully aware of this before my surgery and the reason for the pre-op diets to shrink it. You asked why the "average bandster" wasn't aware of this- I think they are. If nothing else, this is a perfect example of why we are responsible for educating ourselves on the procedure and effects of it before ever going into the operating room.

How Long Did Your Plateua Last?!?

I just came off a 12 day plateau today. The scale finally moved, however I'm pretty sure it's because my band is super tight from my fill on Monday and eating is rather difficult right now.

    Tired Of This Band!!!

I also wonder if you've had a complete unfill? Also, have you had scans with barium to check your band placement? What size is your band? Do you drink carbonation?

2 Weeks In And Dont Know Where I Should Be

None. The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are to let your body heal from surgery, not losing weight.

    Stuck Already?!

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery aren't for losing weight, they're for healing. It's very common for people not to lose weight, even gain some weight, during the healing phase.

    Sliimimg Questions

Learning to eat with your band is both a learning experience and an adventure. I've also gone through the sliming- it's totally gross. What I'm finding is, after each fill, I have retry foods and learn to chew/eat all over again. I actually just got a fill on Monday and I'm still struggling to get on solid foods after it. What I find works is to take really tiny bites of food, like the size of a bite you'd feed a toddler. Then, chewing until it's complete mush. I also wait at least 30 seconds between bites, sometimes longer. I always eat with a fork, even pizza and sandwiches, so I can be sure I'm not accidentally taking too big a bite. It can't hurt to mention to your doctor at next visit, just to ease your mind if nothing else. Best wishes.

    Bad Day

I don't doubt the water worked for you, but drinking while eating is one the few things they tell you specifically not to do. The reason being it washes food through the band too fast, not only delaying the full response but making it possible to eat more than you should. I definitely wouldn't recommend drinking while eating to others, especially since many seriously hurt their weight loss efforts by doing that.
  13. Had about a 1/4 cup cream of chicken and wild rice soup for lunch. Not much, but it's progress! :)

Ohh Noo Not The Boobies !!!

LOL I actually felt myself "pop out' of my bra under my shirt when reaching for something in a store. I realized my bra had been rendered useless and it was time to buy new ones. Sounds like it's time for you too
  15. I can eat a little more today- runny oatmeal, cottage cheese, pudding. Going to give the fill a couple more days to loosen because it is improving.

  16. Very inspirational story. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Stuck? Or Just Full?

hahah yes, just bend at your waist and stretch downward. I read about someone else doing it once and sure enough I tried it, let out a big belch, and had instant relief.

    Stuck? Or Just Full?

This will likely sound really weird, but when I'm stuck I bend deeply at the waist and stretch downward. While I'm stretched I try to make myself burp. Sometimes a gentle bounce or two while bent and stretched will force the burp. Most of the time, it helps. (told you it was weird lol)

    When Are You Finished?

I hate to give you such a vague answer, but the truth is only you and your doctor can decided when you're at your ideal weight. I'm not a big fan of standardized weight charts, I think it's more important to get to a comfortable weight than it is to conform to society standards. With that said, your doctor will be able to tell you if he/she thinks you need to lose more based on not only your weight but your blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar levels, etc.w congratulations
  21. 1. How many times do you have to get a fill? As many times as it takes to reach the Green Zone, everyone is different 2. Does anyone get side effects like Nausea etc? I don't 3. How long does the approval take? Mine was almost immediate, less than 2 weeks. It depends on your insurace 4. How long is the procedure itself? I was in surgery about an hour 5. Is this outpatient procedure? Or in patient? Mine was in-patient one night 6. Do you have to prove you have sleep disorder?I didn't 7. Do most insurances approve the operation? It varies, you should check with yours to be sure 8. once the operation is done - do you have follow a strict diet? Like shakes? if so what kind? I did for the first 6 weeks after surgery. 2 weeks Clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks mushies and 1 week soft foods 9. Can you go back to work the next day or in my case Nights? once the procedure is done. No way. You will want about a week if it's a desk/non active job. If you have a labor job, like a factory, you'll need longer.

    Stupid Question?????

Because it washes everything right through the band, making it not only possible to eat too much but not allowing the band to trigger the full signal in your stomach.

    Bread!! My Long Lost Friend

I could always eat bread by dinner, but at lunch it's a lot more prone to get stuck. My band tends to get looser as the day goes on. Now with that said...I just stuck on tomato Soup after today's fill so we'll see if bread still my friend in a couple days when I'm back on solids again lol.
  24. I just got stuck trying to eat tomato soup. Not cool. I hope it calms and loosens over the next couple days.

  25. Got a small fill, my surgeon said he was very proud of me. I needed to hear that as I've hit my first plateau and it sucks!
