... which is another valid point...every surgeon and nutritionist seem to have their own idea what diets work best, I follow the plan given to me by my nutritionist and it definitely works for me- even though it's not low carb. I've lost 117 pounds in 6 months so the carb definitely aren't hindering or slowing my weight loss at all. But again, that is simply what works for me. Everyone is different.

Finally Restriction.....now What?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to KathyLynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Whenever the restriction changes in your band, it's a definite learning experience. I honestly thought I was eating slow and taking small bites prior to my fill in May, so when I found myself constantly stuck, sliming, and even PB'd once the following week I thought I might be too tight. But then I took even tinier bites and realized that was the problem. I've been fine ever since. This, btw, is how small of bites I now take: I put my finger next to the bite so you can see how small it is by comparison. Good luck -

Steri Stips Allergy
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to puppyphat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allergic to the plastic tape adhesives, too. ...and being the brainiac I am, I totally forgot that steri strips were little more than medical tape so I did have them. My incisions never gave me an ounce of trouble but boy I had red, blistered, burning, itching skin where the steri strips were for weeks. Definitely talk to your surgeon ahead of time about it- don't make the same miserable mistake I made. -

Well, in a matter of a year's time... I divorced the world's biggest idiot, quit smoking, bought a house, and had Lap-Band surgery. So really, my entire life is a huge radical change from this time last year -
Sleeping On Stomach With Port

Mine is just beneath my bra on my left side, and I've slept on my stomach since the day after surgery. I've never once had a problem. -
Lapband Vs. Vsg
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lilbit182004's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The only time I even know my band is there is when I eat, otherwise, I have never felt it or my port. Not once. -
There are some people who have issue with bread, but otherwise unless you're on a low carb diet, there is no reason you can't have bread after being banded. I eat bread products all the time without issue.

I don't eat bagels regularly, but I will once in awhile I will eat half a whole grain bagel. As long as it's toasted I have no problem eating it.

Lapband Vs. Vsg
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lilbit182004's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well first let me say, regardless of anyone else's opinions, in the end you must do what is best for you. I was actually originally scheduled for Gastric Bypass. Obviously it's different than VSG, but like VSG is involves permanently changing your internal organs and is completely irreversible. At the last minute I canceled my surgery because I simply couldn't rationalize forever changing my internal organs without at least trying something far less drastic (and reversible) first. I then looked into Lap-Band and attended a seminar in the beginning of December 2011. I immediately knew this was the right choice and sped through the process to get approved for surgery. On January 6, 2012 I had the Lap-Band surgery. Honestly, for me, it was by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. While I still have a lot of weight to lose, I have already lost 117 pounds in 6 months and feel better than I have in many years. I absolutely love my band. Best wishes on whatever path you choose! -
First Steps Of Lap Band

You're a very wise lady for getting prepared with questions for your surgeon and educating yourself before surgery! I would make sure you have a very clear cut post op diet given to you before you go in for surgery. This way, you already know what to expect and can shop for it before you go to the hospital. In general, I would discuss any and all fears and/or concerns you have. Remember, the only stupid questions are the ones that go unasked, so definitely ask him about everything on your mind Best wishes to you, I'm sure you'll have great success! -
I would talk to your surgeon when see him next week, just to be on the safe side,

Is it a specific food getting stuck, or just everything in general? It's possible that you need to take smaller bites of food, chew more thoroughly, and/or pause between bites. I know after my last fill in May I thought I was taking small enough bites but it turned out I wasn't. I started taking even tinier ones and I've been fine ever since. Might be worth a try,

I think I know what you're describing. It feels like it's a lump at the very bottom of your throat? Your profile is blank. When were you banded? Have you had any fills, if so, how recently?

Doing Something Wrong?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to vickisgrey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's very normal. Your stomach is still swollen from surgery so it might be a little bit before your appetite comes back. Just be sure to drink lots of Water stay hydrated above all else, otherwise just do your best to get in Protein shakes when you can. I found carrying a small bottle of water around with me during all waking hours helpful after surgery. This way I could just constantly take little sips off it. Dannon actually makes these little 8oz bottles of water, I found them to be perfect for me to carry around with me post surgery. -
Is it literally stuck in your throat? Meaning you can't swallow and it comes back up?
-
I'm not trying to scare or upset you, but yes, it most certainly could effect things. You could rip a suture in your stomach and/or cause the band to slip. Eating a cheeseburger 4 days after surgery was a seriously foolish thing to do. You just put your health at risk. I understand it's not easy and you're an emotional eater. Many of us are. But this isn't about losing weight or even a pre-op diet, this is about healing from surgery. Do you really want to jeopardize your health? If the pain continues, see your surgeon to make sure you didn't tear a suture with the cheeseburger. Hopefully everything is ok and this is just a lesson learned. But from this point on, you have no choice but to white knuckle it and follow your surgeon's post op diet so that you can properly heal.

2Nd Fill, Still Not Feeling Restriction...is This Normal?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to tokiesgirl6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it is normal. Most people require multiple fills before finally having adequate restriction. It can be frustrating but it will come eventually. One small piece of advice- just because you can eat something doesn't mean you should. We should be eating a maximum of 1 cup of food per meal total. Just because you can eat more than a cup does not mean you should. Also, keep in mind restriction doesn't mean the inability to eat more nor does it mean stuffed full. It means satisfied, or no longer hungry, on a cup or less of food for 4-5 hours between meals. Have a look here, it might help http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/151340-restriction-full-vs-satisfied/page__p__1794810#entry1794810 -
I think mine finally fell off after about 2 weeks. You're should start slowly peeling up and coming off soon.

No Restriction At All!

Some people don't eat breads because they are on a low carb diet, and some people do have issue with breads and Pasta getting stuck. However, most of us can still eat all those foods and a lot of us still do. One more small piece of advice- just because you can eat something doesn't mean you should. Stick to a cup or less of food per meal and healthy food. You will be so glad you did when the weight starts coming off. -
Internal Bleeding. What Has To Be Done?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Slim2009's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not to freak you out, but if you are vomiting blood you need to quit trying to self diagnose via the internet and get into your surgeon immediately. Possibly even go to the ER if you can't see him within the next 24 hours. Internal bleeding is nothing to mess around with. Good luck -
Vomiting Undigested Food In The Morning?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do know my surgeon recommends not eating within at least a couple hours before bed so food has time to adequately digest before laying down. I am wondering if that is your issue? Just eating too close to bedtime is messing with your digestion so the food is coming back up? -
No Restriction At All!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to fire_bellydancer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No food is supposed to be off limits, and if you think that is what the band is supposed to do, then it's understandable why you're upset. But, that isn't the case. The band is supposed to make you feel satisfied with less food for longer amounts of time. It's job is not to make it impossible to eat certain foods and not to make you feel stuffed full I can understand if you need a fill to have adequate restriction and I'm glad you're going to be able to do that for yourself. But be realistic about what the band is and is not supposed to do so you can be successful with your weight loss. Best wishes.
