End of my Lap Band Rope
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to discouraged's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh I don't blame you, I would be FURIOUS to pay that kind of money and get nothing for it. I personally think all of CIBO's former patients should band together and sue them in a class action lawsuit. See if maybe you can recoup some money that way. Best wishes, I truly hope you find the help you need without spending a fortune. -
approval without comorbidities?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to JadaBean4411's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
But there are hundreds of different carriers for each state, and each carrier will vary from state to state and even county to county. You need to check into your specifically. Just because someone else on Medicaid got approved with no co-morbidities doesn't mean your Medicaid carrier will. It varies greatly. -
approval without comorbidities?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to JadaBean4411's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, state insurance is Medicaid not Medicare. They're very different. You'll have to find out the requirements of your specific insurance. Most require a BMI of at least 40 with no co-morbidities or a BMI of 35 with at least 2 co-morbidities. The health issues they will take as a co-morbidity also vary from plan to plan. Again, that is just a general criteria. You will have to research your own to find out for sure. -
Newbie question...what does the band feel like?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Lovely Lioness's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It doesn't feel like anything because you can't feel your band. The only time you really "feel" anything is if you get stuck. -

Check out this thread, it was started when they first announced bankruptcy. Perhaps some of the posters there will have some insight for you? http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/168898-cibo-clinic-in-toronto-files-for-bankruptcy/ -

hernia repair with band?? Anyone?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to unbroken40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hernias are very common in obese people and it's also very common for people to have hernias repaired at the time of banding. It might cause some more discomfort after surgery but it shouldn't significantly lengthen your recovery time. I would ask your doctor because he knows how severe your hernia is and what to expect. -

Terrible gas pain

When I eat a lot of protein and veggies I tend to get very gassy. If I were you, I'd start paying close attention to your food log and see if there is a certain type of food triggering it. -

How fast is too fast? Speed of wt loss
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to PuraVida37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will get A LOT easier once you're past the post op diet, I promise. I know when I was on the liquids and mushy phases I was lucky to get in maybe 30-40g of protein per day. It was just really hard! You're doing really great! -

If you're losing weight in a healthy manner- enough calories, enough Protein, not junk calories- then don't worry about the speed at which you lose. Your body will regulate itself soon enough and you'll miss the days the weight just melted off, For the record, I lost 44 pounds in the first 6 weeks after surgery and continued to lose at least 20 pounds a month for the first 6 months. Now, I am lucky if I lose 5-8 pounds a month. The lower the scale goes the slower the weight come off because your body is much more resistant to let it go. You're fine -

Lap Band revision to sleeve?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to TracieR's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If I were in your shoes, I'd insist the doctor do a barium swallow to check the band placement as well as an upper GI to see the condition of your esophagus and stomach. There's no way you can make a good decision what to do until you know exactly what is going on- and right now you don't. Just curious, what size band do you currently have? Good luck! -

Help please!!

I agree with the others. You sound a tad bit too tight. Call your doctor tomorrow and let him decide the best course of action for you. -

Who has had success?

Those are actually my biggest problems- grazing and night eating. Heck, I gained 7 pounds last Christmas because I spent a week grazing on sugar Cookies and snacking on various treats all night long. Night time is like a double whammy because not only do I want to mindlessly snack but I want pure sliders, like chocolate or chips. It's pretty dangerous. The only way I can control it is by keeping my weakness foods out of the house. For instance, I can keep potato chips and Doritos in the house for my family to eat without a problem but I can't keep cheese dip or french onion dip with them or I'll eat it all. I keep Little Debbie brownies in the house because I can live without them but I don't dare bring a box of Nutty Bars into the house or I swear it'll be gone a day. Sometimes, that urge to graze is there regardless of the food. I don't care if it's string cheese and sugar free pudding, I just want to habitually graze on it. When that happens, I try distracting myself with either a long walk or a bath. It may sound weird, but for some reason taking a bath (at night) flips a trigger in my mind that says "oh we're done eating for the day". I know I can't (shouldn't) eat past 7pm so I really try to distract myself if I feel like eating then. Btw- it doesn't mean I don't ever give in to night time eating and/or grazing. I'm human and I do. I just know I have to dust myself and regain control the next day so it's only a one night mistake not a week or month long one. It's hard but it's possible to control -

Feeling like a failure

The biggest thing you're doing "wrong" is avoiding your doctor out of embarrassment. He's paid to help you, not just be an overpriced cheerleader when you're doing well. It's when you're struggling that you need him the most. There is nothing to be embarrassed about- you're human and we all need help sometimes. As far as losing 40 pounds by December, I personally think you need more realistic goals so you're not setting yourself up for failure. December is only 9 weeks away. The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week. To be realistic, a good goal is more like 9-18 pounds lost by December. As far as exercise, you don't need a gym membership to exercise. There are a ton of free exercise videos on YouTube. You can do plenty of things right at home or outside. I lost all the weight I have so far with only walking 2 miles a day- and walking is free. Weight loss really comes down to simple math. When you burn more calories than you consume, you lose weight. Tracking your calories is the easiest way to assure that happens. I would definitely start tracking calories if I were you. Make an appointment with your doctor. Best wishes. -

Is The Band Really Failing You, Or Are You Failing The Band?

I can only speak for myself, but if I realized that my surgeon's distance from my home was an obstacle in not only my success but good aftercare, I'd seek out someone closer. You shouldn't have to try different fad diets anymore- that's why you have a Lap Band. I would be willing to bet that with good doctor care and adequate Fluid in your band, you could be very successful. It's clear you have the desire- now you just have to make some changes so that it's a reality. You can do this! It's never too late -
