    Muscle Cramps

A lack of Potassium can cause muscle cramping, however if I were in your shoes I'd go see a doctor. Muscle and leg cramping have nothing to do with your band. There are many things that cause that, some as benign as Restless Leg Syndrome to other things effecting the nervous system. Have you ever had a sleep study? They also show results for issues such as what you're describing and are often a good start point. Best wishes to you.

    10 Weeks Pregnant

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Just my opinion, but if you're throwing up a lot I'd have some Fluid removed from the band for sure. Vomiting is major cause of slips and you definitely don't need to deal with that on top of being pregnant. Better safe than sorry. Best wishes to you.

    Band Has Failed

I say this with all due respect, but I wouldn't be laughing at anyone because you're wrong about what the band is meant to do and that's probably why you slipped. The band isn't supposed to be "tightened down" to prevent you from eating normally. The band is supposed to make you feel satisfied with less food for longer periods of time. It's up to you to make good food choices and stop eating when you're no longer hunger. The band isn't supposed to stop you from doing either. Way too many people walk around with bands entirely too tight because they're expecting the band to do something it's simply not meant to do. As a result, way too many people also end up with slips because of it.

    Band Has Failed

Yes, because she hasn't changed her eating habits beyond smaller portions. She still eats tons of fast food, fatty sugary baked goods, candy, etc. She eats the same crap food that led to her obesity to begin with. That's why I always tell people, it doesn't matter which WLS you choose, you still have to make the conscious choice to eat healthy for a lifetime.
  5. It's only 10:45am and I already feel like I need a nap. Ugh.

Am I In The "green Zone"

If I am understanding, your last fill was August 1, so a week ago. First, try taking even smaller bites, like the size of your fingernail. Chew it until it's complete mush and pause between bites. If you're still having trouble, then yes, my guess is you're too tight. The fact you're even having discomfort drinking Water makes me think so even more. If you do decide you're too tight, be sure to go back immediately. You don't want a too tight band and risk a slip. Best wishes.

    Hit A Wall

I say this with all due respect and sincerity, if you are expecting the band to change your eating habits, you're going to be in for a big disappointment. The band is just a tool, not a magic cure. The work is yours to do not the band. The band is only there to assist. A couple things, first, just because you can eat more than a cup of food per meal or well into the night doesn't mean you should. Band or not, we have to have restraint. We also have to learn to hear our body cues and differentiate between physical hunger and head hunger. The band isn't supposed to make you feel stuffed full or unable to eat. It's job is to make you feel satisfied (aka not hungry) with less food for longer periods of time. This also falls into nighttime grazing. Ask yourself, am I physically hungry or do I just want to eat? More often than not, it's head hunger. Head hunger is very hard to battle but it's necessary to be successful in losing weight. (I still battle it every night, too) If you are still physically hungry, be patient. You're only a couple months post surgery. Most people need multiple fills before they have good restriction so it's very possible you're simply not there yet. It's a slow, frustrating process but if you stick with it, you will find your band sweet spot eventually. Finally, if you're not keeping your meal portions to a cup or less and logging calories, I would suggest you do both. Not only does it help to keep you eating healthy food in good portions, it also will help hold you accountable for what you do eat. Best wishes. Don't give up.

    Taking Big Bites

Honestly? The first time you get stuck because you took too big a bite, you'll start being more mindful of your bite sizes. I know that's what finally got me taking little bites.

    Weight Loss Question

    - About how many calories a day to do you consume? - Do you stick to a cup or less of food per meal? - Are you getting in all your Protein? - Are you limiting your fat intake? All of these things can greatly influence weight loss.

    Calories At Mushy Stage...

Have you met with a nutritionist? If not, I strongly suggest you do so. They will help you set up guidelines for food to fit your body needs and lifestyle. Unfortunately none of us can tell you how many calories to consume because every surgeon is different and has a different protocol to follow. Most people consume between 800-1200 a day. One more note: Please don't expect to have good restriction after your first fill. It is possible however it's very rare. Normally it takes people multiple fills before they have good restriction, and until they do, you have to just do your best to stick to band sized portions and make good food choices. Best wishes.

    Newly Banded/ Help

Wise advice here! I agree with the others. First, 28 pounds is awesome! Don't diminish that, you're doing great and should be proud! As far as losing, I too track everything I eat. I've done so since the day I got home from the hospital and it's helped tremendously. I use the Lose It app for Android.

    Bored

Unfortunately, you're stuck white knuckling through it. I was on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery and thought for sure I'd lose my mind if I had one cup of chicken broth. But, I did it. It absolutely sucked and I was starving by the end, but it was my doctor's orders so I did what I had to do. Have you tried V8 Soups? They're really good and good for you. No chunks, either. They have Tomato Garden, Potato Leek, and Butternut Squash. I really liked them a lot. Also, runny oatmeal was good too. I had it in a ton of flavors. I was told as long as it's thin enough to run off the back of a spoon, it's thinned enough to have during the liquids phase. Hang in there, you can do this

    Band Has Failed

If I were in your shoes, I'd have the band fixed. It's already worked for you so why mess with you know works? Small side note: Gastric bypass isn't a guarantee of weight loss anymore than the band is. A friend of mine had gastric bypass a month after I had lap band. She's only lost about 20 pounds whereas I've lost over 100.
  17. If you get the band, stick to band sized portions of a cup or less of food per meal, and change your eating habits to healthy ones, you will lose weight. Simple as that. If you haven't seen a nutritionist already, I would strongly recommend doing so. It could really help you a lot to have clear food guidelines to follow and take the stress off you a little more by doing so. Best wishes to you.

    Caffeine?

I was never told to avoid caffeine. Honestly, I don't even give it a second though, if I want something with caffeine in it, I drink it. (as long as it's not carbonated and is zero calorie) I drank caffeinated soda like it was going out of style before I got the band, it never caused an ulcer or anything else with my stomach, so I'm not worried about caffeine now. I figure if 6 Cokes a day didn't wear a hole in my stomach nothing will. LOL

    Mri Conditional?

I have to have MRI's yearly. I checked before being banded and was assured by both my neurologist (doc who orders my yearly MRI's) and my surgeon that the band would cause no issues with MRI's.

    Slurpees....

Actually, the carbonation is dead in slurpees. The freezing makes it flat. If you let a slurpee melt you'll notice there's zero carbonation. I had one last month because I was craving the taste of Coke. I just had a small as a treat and it totally took care of my craving.

I Cant Feel My Port Is This Normal?

Very normal. I couldn't feel mine until a couple months after surgery when I started to lose some of the belly fat.

    Need Food Tips!

Carbonation is the only thing you're not allowed after being banded. Though it passes right through the band immediately, it expands in the lower stomach, pushing upward on the band. This can (and does) lead to slips or even the stomach prolapsing up through the band. I was a major soda addict but I haven't had one since the day before surgery. Now, I drink Lipton Diet Green Iced Tea in raspberry, mixed berry, or citrus flavor. It's so good and zero calories. For me, it's a great alternative to soda. You will likely struggle to change your eating habits in the beginning. It's not easy at all, especially when you have a lifetime of them to break. I would highly recommend making an appointment with a nutritionist before you have surgery. They can help you set up eating guidelines that work for you and your lifestyle. Having clear parameters to follow really does help simplify things and remove all the guess work. I know I attribute my success so far to all the information I learned from my nutritionist. I'd be lost without the guidelines she gave me. Best wishes to you.
