I Feel As No Band Is There.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Wisegirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is because you likely have little or nothing in your band right now. It takes most people multiple fills before their hunger is sufficiently satiated. In the meantime, be patient and try to stick to band sized portions and meals. It will come it just takes time. -
Newbie Question
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Wendy0513's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Green Zone is right amount of Fluid in the band to satiate hunger without being too tight. PBing is productive burping. It's when stuck food is gently burped back up. This may also help: -
Sx On 9/10/12, Cheated Already!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to SandraO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind the whole purpose of a post op diet is to allow your stomach time to heal and has nothing to do with weight loss. For your own best interest and health, you'd be wise to stick to it going forward so you don't accidentally cause yourself problems. -
I'm assuming you have a 10cc band, in which case it's only half full. Most people take multiple fills to have adequate hunger control, you've only had two, so you need to be patient and give it time. One quick thing- the band isn't supposed to make you feel full so don't expect or look for that full feeling you had before surgery. The only thing the band is supposed to do is help you to be satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. Satisfied means no longer physically hungry, it has nothing to do with being full. Good luck.

A Familiar Subject To Banders: Vomiting!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to EAL-1011's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It definitely sounds like PBing, not vomiting. Sliming often goes hand in hand with PBing, which would be the saliva you're experiencing. PBing is gently burping whatever is stuck back up. There is no gut wrenching or spasming violent stomach muscles like there is with vomiting. -

Try These! 42 Grams Of Protein In 3.8 Oz!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to amyknecht's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's very true, your body can't absorb more than approximately 25g of Protein at a time. Anything beyond that in a serving, like a shake with 42g of protein, isn't being utilized. You're still only getting about 25g. http://www.precisionnutrition.com/protein-limit -
One Week..
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Kkcrowder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, because your band is likely empty or nearly empty. It takes most people multiple fills before the band starts helping appease your appetite. -
Ugh I'm down in shirt sizes but the sleeves are tight up top because of all the extra skin. I'm going to need tons of plastic surgery

To Fill Or Not To Fill?

You're losing and can still eat, so that's very good. If I were in your shoes, I don't think I'd get one. It doesn't sound like you need it. -

Fear Of Failure
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to wallflower's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think most of go through that. I know I did. I was terrified of going through the surgery just to fail miserably as I did on every weight loss attempt before. It's truly an emotional roller coaster in the beginning. But you can do this. If someone had told me right after surgery I could lose a lot of weight in less than a year, I'd have laughed at them. I wouldn't have thought it was possible. Yet, here I am, 8 months later and 143 pounds lighter. If I can do this, anyone can. Just believe in yourself -
This is probably a weird thing to be thankful for, but I'm thankful that I can wear any socks I want now without them cutting into my ankles from being too tight.
-
It's entirely possible you're still over-filled. I'd call your surgeon first thing in the morning.

I now have two friends who've chosen the Lap Band after seeing how much I've lost with it. I only hope I've done a good enough job stressing to them how much work it really is.

Being too tight isn't worth any extra weight loss if it results in a slip- and being too tight is the leading cause of slips.

You have to realize you're not on a diet, you have to change your eating habits for a lifetime. If your family, particularly the children, are still eating the unhealthy food that led to your obesity then you're not doing them any favors. They can only benefit from eating healthy with you. Look at this as your opportunity to positively change their lives to avoid your own fate of obesity. Btw, I have two children of my own, so I am very much doing the same in my own home. They resisted at first but once they realized they were actually getting much tastier food and a bigger variety, they were very happy with the changes. I still make healthier versions of their old favorites too. Ironically, they can't even tell the difference. As for the snacking and treats, only you have control over that. I know it's not easy but you have to get back track with healthy meals, band sized portions, and no junk food. No amount of restriction in your band is going to make better food choices for you, it's entirely up to you.

Went To Get Egd I Dont Have A Hernia :(
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to vmarlau's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure what a hiatal hernia has to do with the band? A band won't fix a hernia and the hernia would have to be fixed regardless of the band. -
That's awesome, congratulations!

Feelin' Bummy. Need Some Support / Suggestions To Get My Head In The Game Again
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to banditalovely's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, breath. You've lost considerable weight already and that is something you should be very proud of. You clearly know what is necessary to be successful with your band. You know it's there to help you feel satisfied on less food, not full or restrict what you eat. You know the portions you should be eating, you count calories, and you even track the steps you take (girl I don't even track my steps! LOL!) I know you don't feel like it right now, but you totally got this. You know exactly what to do and how to do it, now all you have to do is find that spark to keep going on that path. So you had a binge day. It happens. We're all human. If anyone ever says "Oh I behave 100% of the time and always eat right" they're lying. If we had the power to do that, we wouldn't have wound up obese needing WLS to begin with. The trick is letting those times we aren't eating right be fleeting moments not the norm. You've lost 45 pounds so far. Can you imagine if you never have? Or worse, if you'd gained that weight rather than lose it? Just imagine where you can be a year from now if you work with your band!! I mean really, the possibilities are endless and wonderful, and they're right there for the taking. So...reach out...and take it Talk to your doctor, tell him your struggles, see if he can give you some advice. If you're truly worried you've stretched your pouch, maybe you could try the 5 day pouch test. Not only will it help shrink your pouch back down but it's a great way to "do over" and get a fresh start on banded life. http://5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html You can do this! -
Congratulations!!

Feeling Weirdly Discouraged...
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to mle11789's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The early stages are always hardest, I know they were for me too. Even when I'd lost 30 and 40 pounds and my clothes were too big, I'd still look in the mirror and not see any difference. I think a big part of it so many of us have such skewed self images to begin with, and our self esteem is so low, we can't see the good even when it's right in front of us. Literally. I have a folder where I keep pictures starting from a week before surgery up until recently. I'm sure to take a new one at least every 2 months. It's when looking at those pictures I can really go "wow" as I see my progress. Stick with it, soon you'll see the difference everyone else does.
