    All Of Sudden. ...sliming???

If I had to guess, I'd guess it's one of two things- either you're not taking small enough bites and eating too fast or you're having "first bite syndrome". Many banded patients will get a felling of too full, even slime and feel stuck, after just a couple bites of food. We call it first bite syndrome because you know you're not done eating, and you're not too tight, yet those first couple bites always feel otherwise. If it is first bite syndrome, it usually passes entirely within a couple minutes then you can continue your meal as normal. Good luck!

    Help...band Feels Wierd/hurts...stuck?

I personally think you'll be ok until your appointment tomorrow, however I'm not a doctor, and if you are really uncomfortable and don't feel you can make it through the night then perhaps consider the ER. Otherwise, I think you're very wise for going in for an unfill. Night heartburn is a major red flag for a band too tight. That is not something you want to mess with, so I applaud you for getting right on it and going back for an unfill so soon. I see way too many wait months and end up with complications because of it. Best wishes, I'm sure you'll feel much better tomorrow after your appointment.

    Just A Bad Day...

The band isn't supposed to stop you from eating anything. It's not supposed to keep you from eating certain foods nor is it supposed to physically stop you from eating more than a cup. So, don't base how well the band is or isn't working based on that. The band is supposed to help you to be satiated on less food for longer periods of time. Over time with weight loss, the band gets looser, thus requiring additional fills. It's entirely possible you're noticing a difference in the band because of weight loss and your stomach shrinking. Ask yourself: Are you satisfied on a cup or less of food for at least 4 hours? Satisfied meaning no longer physically hungry. (it has nothing to do with the inability to eat more, btw) If yes, then your band is right where it should be. If no, then you likely need another fill.

2 Months Banded And No Weight Loss

Try Lipton Diet Iced Green Tea. It comes in many flavors, I love the citrus, raspberry, and mixed berry flavors. It's zero calories, no carbonation. If you like sweet tea, you might really like it.

    Post Op Confusion

You should be sticking to a cup or less per meal now. There's a couple reasons for this. First, your pouch isn't meant to hold more than that. By eating more than a cup you risk stretching it. Second, the band isn't supposed to stop you from eating, not even with good restriction. The band is only supposed to satiated your hunger on less food for longer periods of time. It will still always be up to you to stop eating when you're at your portion limit. Now down the road when you have adequate Fluid in your band, you may well find you're no longer wanting food after 1/2-3/4 cup and don't even finish your full serving. This actually happens to me rather often. But there's a popular saying among bandsters "just because you can eat something doesn't mean you should". Don't expect the band to stop you from eating. It's tough at the beginning, there's quite the learning curve to living with the band. Hang in there, it does it get easier. Best wishes to you

2 Months Banded And No Weight Loss

You're going to laugh but when I was first banded, yes, I did. Now, after 9 months of eating cup sized meals, I am pretty good at eyeballing it so I don't measure when out. However, I do still measure at home. I also found many restaurants have their nutritional data, including serving size, on their websites.

    Stomach Pains When Eating

I would take very small, slow sips. You were just banded a couple days ago and your stomach is likely still very swollen and irritated. Give it a little time to heal.

    Tire Of Treadmill

I'm not sure if it's realistic for where you live, but I take 2 mile walks outside daily. I despise using the treadmill, it bores me to tears, but I absolutely love taking long walks outside.

2 Months Banded And No Weight Loss

I'm sorry you're frustrated. I know this won't be easy, but you need to stick to a cup or less of food per meal, regardless of whether or not you're still hungry or can physically eat more. Not only is it important for calorie control but especially important so you don't stretch your pouch. If I were in your place, I'd start counting calories. You might be surprised how much you're really consuming. Most people who don't count calories and struggle with weight loss have a "holy cow, I eat that much?" moment when they start. Food can be really deceptive. A good example: I went to a restaurant and was going to have an open faced tuna sandwich on half an English muffin. I figured that would be my best bet, right? Wrong! It was like 700 calories because of how the tuna was prepared, and ironically, a child size cheeseburger had almost half the calories and was a better choice. If I wasn't counting calories and didn't check it before ordering, I'd have ordered the tuna not realizing what a horrible choice it was. I have used an app called Lose It! since the day I got home from the hospital. I truly believe I owe a lot of my weight loss success to it because it's kept me accountable. Best wishes to you.

    Why Am I Not Losing???

A couple things... the first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. If I were you, I'd put your scale away for another couple weeks and just focus on recovery. As for your meals, unfortunately it's almost impossible to say without knowing what your daily calorie count is and what size servings you're eating. Do you know about how many calories you're eating a day? Are you sticking to a cup or less of food per meal?
  14. Unfortunately no one can answer that. It all depends on your anatomy and the size of the fill. Some people can tell a difference with every single fill, some don't notice a difference at all until multiple fills. Best wishes!
  15. Those close to me, my family and close friends, all know I had Lap Band surgery. As far as acquaintances and random people I know in passing, I don't feel I owe them an explanation. When someone say "wow you've lost a ton of weight, how'd you do it?" I smile and say "thanks, I've been working my butt off. Literally". Hey, it's not a lie!

    How Big Is Ur Pouch?

Typically speaking, the pouch holds a maximum of 1 cup of food. That's not to say there's not variations depending on surgeons and individual anatomies.

Is There Always Pain With A Band Slip?

Actually yes, you can have a slip without pain. I would be glad he's checking it, it shows he's a thorough doctor with your best interest at heart.

Am I Crazy To Get Banded?? Only 25-30 Lbs To Lose.

There's no way I'd recommend the band for only 25-30 pounds. It's simply not worth the risk of surgery and the life changes for such a small amount of weight. Quite honestly, I think it would be a complete waste of money.

    Frustrated...

You were just banded 4 weeks ago and have lost 15 pounds. The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing, so the fact you lost at all is outstanding. I'm not sure what you were expecting, but the average is 1-2 pounds per week. Be patient.

    Baby !

Congratulations on your baby! The band is only a waste if you choose not to use it. If I were you, I'd go into your surgeon and see if you need a fill. Then, I would make an appointment with a nutritionist and let them help you set realistic food guidelines that will help you to eat healthy and lose weight. The band is just tool, you have to make the choice to use it.

I Think I Ate Too Much

Unfortunately nothing will help but time. Drinking the Water so soon after eating probably just made it worse, too. I know it's hard but you're going to have to be patient and wait for your body to digest it. Best wishes

    Skeptical And Scared

Hi Nicole and welcome! Honestly, I think a doctor saying "relax you'll be fine!" is irrelevant when you have your own doubts. Ultimately the decision must be yours and yours alone, regardless of what your mom and doctor want you to do. It's not their stomach that would be banded and it's not their lives that will changed forever, it's yours. If you feel you're too mentally unstable for Lap Band, then listen to your gut and don't do it. If anything, see a counselor before you make your decision and let them help you make a decision that is best for you. Ultimately the decision is yours and it has to be one you're happy and comfortable with. Best wishes to you.

You can totally do it, and perhaps the walking and gym will help your depression, too. Natural endorphines can do amazing things for one's moods and overall outlook on life. We believe in you

How Many Carbs Do You Eat?

I try to stay around 125g of carbs a day. If I go over that number I don't worry, I still lose the same regardless of the amount of carbs I eat. Plus I try very hard to make my carbs good ones, like potatoes, whole wheat bread, and whole grain pasta.

Anyone Know Why They Turn To Comfort Food?

Boy I have been there!! I too was always a night time comfort food eater and I was in an awful marriage. (I'm not saying yours is awful, btw, just that mine was) I could go fine all day then night time would hit and I could easily sit in front of the TV or at the computer with a pound of Reese's miniatures- and eat them all. Any food that was chocolate or gooey, like cheese, was fair game. Things like snack cakes and candy never lasted long in my home. I am now happily divorced and have been away from him for well over a year now. While I still have my night time moments of wanting garbage, it's a fleeting and easily resistible thought, not the all consuming "I must have chocolate!!" feelings of the past. I am NOT recommending anyone gets divorced. Only you can decide what is best for you and your family. Truth is, I hope there is a way to fix your marriage so you don't have to go through that. However for me, getting divorced was very necessary and I am so incredibly happy to be free of him. Because I'm happy in my life now I don't struggle with the emotional eating like I once did either. I heard a saying once that very much applies to me: It's better to be alone than to be lonely with someone else. Good luck to you.
