    9 Months And 152 Pounds

The best advice I have is to see a nutritionist if you feel your weight loss has stalled. Even if you saw one in the past, your nutritional and calorie needs can drastically change as your weight drops and you've lost a lot. I really believe two things are responsible for my weight loss- the guidelines my nutritionist set for me and tracking my calories. I don't eat any special food, and I don't do low carb either, but I do track what I eat always and do my best to follow the guidelines set for me. Best wishes

    The Dumping Stage, Smh

There is no dumping stage with the band. Perhaps you have the flu?
  3. It sounds to me like you're way too tight. The fact you're sliming after even liquids tells me you definitely need a slight unfill. I would go back and insist on an unfill tomorrow. Being too tight is no way to live. Best wishes to you.

You're not stupid, you're human, and the fact you went back to your doctor to get back on track makes you smart. Welcome back to life as a bandster, you can do this

    Q And A

    * What would you say is the most important lesson or lessons you've learned about eating since you've been banded, and how has this contributed to your weight loss? I've learned that if I take small, slow bites I can still eat anything I want. This has contributed to my weight loss because I never feel deprived of the foods I love. * How are you sustaining your motivation to continue forward? By looking at my kids and knowing this will help assure me I'm here for them for decades to come. * If you've experienced any discouraging set back moments, how did you deal with them, how long did they take to pass-- and what sort of specific strategies might you suggest that could work? Plateaus sucks, and I've hit a couple, but I know they'll pass and a normal part of weight loss. * Have you ever worried about being a complete failure at the band, and then gotten over that worry-- if so: did you tell yourself certain things that helped or do certain activities that reassured you? In the first couple weeks of being banded, yes, I worried like crazy. But as I saw the scale dropping lower and lower, I realized I could do this and was in complete control of losing weight. I've never even considered the possibility of failing since then. I know I will succeed. * What is the proudest accomplishment you've made relative to your band journey thus far? When I haven't seen someone in a long time, they look at me in shock at how much weight I've lost. I saw an aunt this past weekend who hasn't seen me since surgery. Her jaw literally dropped and she exclaimed "Holy sh*t you've lost a TON of weight!" It was a really good feeling. * What are you looking forward to doing next in your journey? Hitting the 200 pounds lost mark... it's coming! * Where do you see yourself 1 year from now and how are you planning to get yourself there? I'll be at goal and I'll have had a tummy tuck. I'll get there by doing what I'm already doing, eating smart and making good choices. * What sort of goal setting do you do in general, and how do you motivate yourself to keep going towards those goals? I set small goals. My most recent one was to hit the 150 pound loss mark, I did that. So now onto the next. * What is the most difficult thing about having the band and what makes it worth it anyway? Learning how to eat healthy wasn't easy at first but it wasn't difficult, either. Overall, I don't think anything has been horribly difficult. It's totally worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Why Are Shady Lap Band Doctors Doing This ???

Perhaps he doesn't tell his patients how much is in their band because it's irrelevant. It doesn't matter if there's 1cc or 9cc in their band, all that matters is how they feel and if they're losing weight. Too often people get hung up on numbers "Oh my friend has 4cc in her band with great restriction, I have 5cc in mine with none, something must be wrong with mine!" Also, as stated above, Fluid does evaporate from the band over time. Finally, if you're ever in a situation the band has to be emptied, say for surgery, again the amount in it is irrelevant. They just take it all regardless of what's in there. Now with that said...it is your brother's body. If he really wants to know how much is in there he has every right not to ask but demand the information.

    ? On Foods To Avoid

I would try everything yourself and find out what works for you specifically. Not everyone has the same problem foods and not everyone has problems at all. Personally, there's nothing I can't eat. I just take small, slow bites and I can eat anything. Best wishes.

    Autoimmune Disorders And Lapband

I too am on medications to slow my immune system. I am on a low dose Interferon injection three nights a week. Ironically, when I was diagnosed with MS, I also showed the markers for Lupus in both my spinal Fluid and blood but haven't been formerly diagnosed with it. It's those factors that lead me to research the band and how it relates to autoimmune diseases and how I stumbled onto the info about Lupus.

    Autoimmune Disorders And Lapband

From what I understand, it's not the treatment for Lupus that causes the contradiction but rather the nature of the disease itself because one of the hallmarks of Lupus is attacking the body's own soft tissue. Specifically Systemic Lupus. There are a few cases in people with severely active Systemic Lupus and Lap Band, their body essentially attacking the band. But in those cases, it wouldn't be band specific, it would be any foreign body. However, with that said, it's rare. They have to cite the contradiction more for legal purposes so if someone with Lupus should have this rare occurrence they can't be sued.

    Autoimmune Disorders And Lapband

From everything I have read, Lupus is the only autoimmune disorder specifically named as a disease you shouldn't have Lap Band with. Even then, I know of people with Lupus and the band with no problems. I have an autoimmune disease too. I have Multiple Sclerosis. So far the band has done nothing but help me tremendously. Best wishes to you

    Weight Gain :,(

You should be putting the scale away entirely. The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are for healing, not losing. Losing will come once you're healed. For now, just focus on staying hydrated and healing up.

I Had Revision From The Lap Band To Bypass

I'm sorry it didn't work for you or your husband. I hope you both find what you need. I've been very successful with the band personally. I've lost 156 pounds in 9 months and couldn't be happier.

    Band Self-Tightened??!

I know I've been under a lot of stress lately and my band is tightening right up on me. I would give it a couple days to see if it relaxes when the stress lessens. If the stress lessens and you still feel too tight, then definitely call your doc. btw- my son had tubes in his ears when he was a toddler, too. They bounce back SUPER fast! Much quicker than us adults do. Best wishes.

    Afraid Of My Band!!!

The problem is, the way you're losing is very unhealthy. I also fear that once you go back to real food, you'll have a gain, because your metabolism getting so out of whack. I would strongly suggest talking to your surgeon and making him aware of exactly what you're eating (not eating) and the fear you're dealing with. Let him help you through this.

    Not The Easy Way Out

It's a huge misconception, based on ignorance, that WLS is the easy way out. Those of us who've had WLS know it's definitely not an easy way out. If it were an easy way out, there wouldn't be so many people on these forums saying "I'm not losing weight" or worse "help I gained". The band is a great tool but it's just that- a tool. Changing our eating habits to healthy ones for a lifetime, restricting our portion sizes, and exercising is all our work to do. It's definitely not easy...though it is worth it

    1 Cup Of Food?

Typically it's a cup as in volume because it's based on the volume of food the pouch can hold However, some things are impossible to measure in volume, like chicken breast or a pork chop. In those cases, you have to weigh it. So if I'm having pork chops for dinner, I'll have 4 oz of pork chop, 1/4 of green Beans and 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes.

    Not Losing...:(

I think getting a small unfill would help you tremendously. People often think tight is good, but when you're so tight you can't eat healthy and are stuck eating slider foods it, not only does it put you at risk for complications but it will seriously hinder (or even halt) your weight loss. By getting a small unfill and being able to eat again, you won't be so restricted on what you can eat and will be able to make healthy food choices again. It will help your weight loss a lot. Best wishes to you

    Can Not Tolerate Protein Drinks!!!!!

I feel for you, I went through the same thing. I tried 3 or 4 different Protein shakes before I found one that I actually liked. (some were seriously awful! lol) I really like unjury, I'm 9 months post op and still have a chocolate Splendor Unjury shake for Breakfast every morning.

    9 Months And 152 Pounds

No sorry, I'm not. I use the Lose It app. Hahaha my diet is boring, trust me. I honestly don't eat anything special. Heck, I don't even do low carb, I eat lots of carbs. I just eat less food and try to make healthy choices.

    Halfway To My Goal!!!

Congratulations!!! So exciting!! Honestly, I'm pretty open about how much weight I've lost. At the beginning I struggled with it but now I'm proud of what I've accomplished so far. Plus, I won't lie, it's amusing as heck to watch people's jaw drop when I say I've lost over 150 pounds. If you're not comfortable telling people how much you've lost, I'd simply smile and say "a lot"

    9 Months And 152 Pounds

I know this isn't going to help, but I don't eat anything special or different. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast every morning, a Lean Cuisine or maybe leftovers from dinner before for lunch, and whatever I am making for the kids for dinner. I do stick to a cup or less of food at every meal, count calories, make sure to get all my protein in, and limit my fat intake. Best wishes
