I personally like Unjury brand http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/
-
You are still very much in the healing phase. My best advice is to put the scale away. The first 4-6 week post surgery are for healing not losing. That will come later when you're back and solid foods and fully healed. Also keep in mind it usually takes most people multiple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band. The best thing you can do in the meantime is to stick to band sized portion, a cup of food or less per meal, and make smart food choices. Restriction will come it just takes time.

I've heard of it happening though I've never experienced it. I see you just had surgery on the 3rd, so about 3 weeks ago. Perhaps you should request they check your band placement as well? Just a thought. Best wishes.

Another Protein Shake Question
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Joy1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree with you, I can't stand either of those brands either. The only protein shake I found I like is Unjury. You have to order it online, but I'm over 9 months post op and I still have one for breakfast every morning. I genuinely like them. They also offer sample packs so you can try all their flavors before committing to buying an entire container. Here's there website if you'd like to have a look: http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/ -
Your fill was on the 12th so that means you've been trying to sustain on about half of the calories you need daily for about 10 days, and bupring and sliming. If it was going to resolve itself it would've by now. It sounds like you are too tight and need a slight unfill. Contrary to urban legend, too tight is not good. It doesn't make you lose faster, in fact, it often will even result in a gain because you're forced to live on slider foods. Very often when someone is too tight they lose more after a tiny unfill because they actually eat adequately and healthy again. Too tight is also the leading cause of band slips. It's simply not worth the risks. Best wishes.

Please Excuse My Dumb Question...
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to DBRN1972's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not a dumb question at all PBing is Productive Burping. It's a gentle, non-violent or forceful way of bringing stuck food back up. Unlike vomiting which causes stomach retching and is violent. It's "burping" food back up. -
Those Who Have Had The Band For A While I Need Some Advice/ Insight Please!!!!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to journeygirl28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once you're back an solid foods and are completely healed from surgery, it will get easier. I have a Protein shake for Breakfast then just be sure to have protein with my lunch and dinner. I use an app called Lose It to track calories but it also tracks nutrients like protein. Very often, I'll even plan my day in the morning just to be sure I'll get my protein that day. If I find I'm low, I make adjustments as necessary. I do agree with elcee, the protein shakes are more of a Meal Replacement than a meal addition. They generally run around 200 calories and can really add up if you're drinking them along with meals. This could even be where you gained back the 2 pounds from. Finally, as far as fatigue, remember you're still not even a month post op. You may feel fine but you're body is still definitely healing. It's not at all uncommon to have bouts of fatigue even 4-8 weeks after surgery as your body continues to recover. People don't often realize it, but healing takes a lot of energy supplies. It will get better for you, it will just take a little time. Best wishes to you. -

First Fill And Still Hungry
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lookinfwd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it's very normal, in fact it takes most people multiple fills before having adequate Fluid in their band. One thing though, you shouldn't be eating til full or looking for a full feeling. Here's a good link that explains it: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html Best wishes to you. -
Nauseated Day 3

Vomiting so soon after surgery is very dangerous, you need to call your surgeon or even go into the ER immediately. They will give you something to stop the vomiting. -
What Is Wrong With Me ?

All the more reason to not gain more weight now. That could very well end up your surgeon requiring you to lose even more before surgery if you gain too much. Just remember... this isn't the end. You'll have all the foods you love again. -
Breads...can't Do Em At All!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to JulieC74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, in fact the first time I ever PB'd was at Olive Garden on one of their breadsticks. It wasn't fun! It was about a week after the fill that put me into the Green Zone. -
I get horrible cravings for chocolate, specifically peanut butter cups. I don't think it has anything to do with the band, though. It's just me.

Breads...can't Do Em At All!

Bread is the one thing I see people having problems with most often. I can, but I have to take very small bites, chew it like crazy, and pause between bites. In fact, I've only ever PB'd twice in 9 months and both times it was on bread. The toasting suggestion above is a good one. It helps many. -
What Is Wrong With Me ?

Just remind yourself that any weight you gain now is just going to make it that much more you have to lose after. It's so not worth it, trust me. Will your doctor have you do a pre-op diet at all? -
What Is Wrong With Me ?

It wasn't wise in retrospect, but yes, I did. I ate like crazy a couple weeks before my surgery. I had major "last supper syndrome", feeling like I had to eat everything under the sun because I'd never have it again. Just try to remind yourself that all those foods you love, you will have again, just smaller portions of it and in moderation. I've been banded over 9 months now and I've lost a lot of weight, but I still eat all the foods I love. I'm just careful to eat them within my daily calories and within the band sized portions. This isn't the end...this is a beautiful new beginning for you -

This Is So Hard, I Can't Eat..
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Cpvillacis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First, are you sticking to a cup or less of food per meal? Some things to realize, the first of which being a growling stomach isn't necessarily sign of hunger. Banded tummies are often very noisy so don't assume just because your is growling your hungry. That sounds simple enough, I know, but for a lot of us learning what physical hunger actually feels like takes time. You also say you can "finish your plate". Please realize the band isn't supposed to stop you from eating. It's not it's job. It's your job to control your portions. The band is supposed to satiate your hunger so you can go longer periods of time on less food. Not stop you from eating. If you are vomiting, I would strongly suggest talking to your surgeon. Vomiting can lead to slips so it's definitely not a risk worth taking. If you in fact physically hungry yet vomiting, I'd even go so far as to ask for him to do a check via barium swallow to make sure your band is in the right place. It's always better safe than sorry. Best wishes to you. -
As for restriction, can you go at least 4 hours without hunger after eating a cup or less of food? If not, you likely need a fill. As for weight loss, are you eating a cup or less of food per meal? About how many calories a day are you eating? Are you getting in all your Protein a day?

I have had sushi with no problem, but I wouldn't advise it so soon after surgery. I'd wait until you've been back on solids for at least a couple weeks. Just my opinion.

Every surgeon is different. Some require their patients use a certain brand, others don't care what kind they use. I like the unjury brand shakes. -
Am I So Wrong?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to chelseyrion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You did absolutely nothing wrong, and to be honest, your mother should be ashamed for for treating you so badly when you were going through major life moments and recovery not once but twice. I know this may sound harsh, but I'd be thankful she's not speaking to you right now. You need to focus on you and healing. You don't need the stress and anxiety of dealing with her. A hard lesson I learned- just because someone is family doesn't make them an asset or even a necessity in your life. Toxic people are going to pollute your life regardless of whether they're blood relatives or not. You don't need toxic people in your life. Your mother has proven herself to be a toxic person repeatedly. Just something to think about. Best wishes to you ((hugs)) -
Can You Eat Before A Fill?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to helen098's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't eat solids before a fill just because I know I have a finicky band. However, I was never told not to.
