? On Carb Amounts Post Band

There is no "rule" that with the band you have to restrict carbs. If your doctor or nutritionist advises it, by all means, do as they say being as they're the experts. However, not all of us do low carb. I don't restrict carbs. I count calories, restrict fat intake, and make sure to get in all my Protein. But I do not limit carbs. It's simply not realistic for me so I stick to a plan that is.

    Wow U Eat That!?

I never said ALL band failures were due to patient fault. There most certainly are times the band has major complications, even requiring removal, by absolutely no fault of the patient. There's a few of these people on these forums. My heart truly goes out to them. Unfortunately, it's a risk we all take when we get banded. Will I end up one? I don't know, I hope not. But I do know if my band does fail, it won't be because I was like the majority who neglect and abuse their band. I've done my homework and I've put far too much into this to ruin it with poor choices and ignorance.
  4. Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. What an awful experience! Have they checked your band placement via barium swallow and xray?

    Wow U Eat That!?

You're not going to like this, but it is most certainly the patient's fault for walking around with a band too tight. It's their responsibility to educate themselves and to know the warning signs. GERDS, vomiting, the inability to eat real food, all very clear warnings that something is wrong. Way too many get the band complete ignorant to the facts, including what the band is and isn't meant to do. They hop on these boards and howl "Oh I can eat anything! My band sucks!" or "I can still eat two huge servings, I need a fill!" because they are oblivious to what the band is, and isn't, supposed to do. Then, they go in demanding fill and end up too tight. I agree, there are some shotty doctors out there just putting in bands without adequate patient education. But at the end of the day, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves, not anyone else's responsibility to coddle us and force feed us information. It's pretty sad that people spend more time researching their cell phone carriers or what kind of car to buy than do a device a surgically implanted in their stomachs. Just my two cents.
  6. I think my feet shrank another half size. The shoes I JUST bought 2 months ago are too big!! That means I'll have shrank 2 full shoe sizes. WOW!

    Meal Portions, Calorie/ Protein Intake.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to go back to your doctor and ask him for those specifics. You're trying to recover from a slipped band, so your dietary needs aren't going to be the same as the rest of us. Plus, every doctor handles slips differently. What works for one may not work for another and you need to do specifically what is advised for your situation. Call and ask for more specific instructions. It's the only way you're going to know you're doing the right thing.

My Job Makes Me Eat More

Honestly, that sounds like head hunger not physical hunger. Tightening your band won't help that because your band has nothing to do with your brain. Unfortunately head hunger will forever be ours to battle. You simply have to learn to resist the urge to eat when you're not physically hungry. Best wishes.

    Carb-Aholics, Please Come In.

I'm going to go against the norm here... Who said you can't have carbs? Who said you can't have bread, Pasta, rice, and potatoes? Whoever even said you couldn't have the occasional treat once in awhile? Just because low carb is the new "in thing" for dieters doesn't mean it's the only option. It doesn't mean it's the only thing that works, either. I have lost almost 160 pounds in about 10 months. I do not restrict my carbs. I count my calories religiously, restrict my fat intake, and make sure I get in all my Protein...but I don't do low carb. It's simply not realistic for me long term so I don't do it. I love pasta, bread, and potatoes and I eat them daily. I just am sure they always fit into my daily calorie allowance and stick to band sized portions. Just something to think about!

High Bp But Not On Perscription Meds

If your primary care doctor is willing to say it's a problem? Then yes, it could be a co-morbidity. However, that's only if your doctor is will say it is and your specific insurance counts it as one. Not all insurance is the same and they even have different things they're consider a co-morbidity. You should speak to your surgeon's insurance coordinator to find out what counts as one for yours.

Ideas For The "mushie" Stage Please

Pretty much anything you can blenderize so it's mushy like baby food. Even some chicken put in the blender with broth, tuna salad, chicken salad. Even egg salad would work.

    Feeling The Stoma

The only time I can feel food pass is if I take too big a bite or eat too fast. Otherwise, I don't feel anything at all.

When Was Your First Bowel Movement?

It was about a week after surgery before I finally went. I still don't go like I used to even now, maybe every 2-3 days not every day. The stool softener is a very wise idea. Keep taking it until you do go so you don't end up in pain.

    Excersise Actually Making Me Gain????

Everyone is different and loses best under different circumstances. Some do great on only 900 calories a day, others do great on 1200 a day. Some do low carb, some (like me) don't count carbs at all. It's all a matter of what works best for you. With that said, plateaus are a normal part of weight loss. I actually am just coming off a 3 week plateau myself. It's frustrating as hell, and more than once I wanted to throw my scale into the lake, but it happens. You simply cannot expect to lose every single week. The human body is an amazing thing but it's not a machine and you can't expect it to always function exactly like you expect. As far as "starvation mode", that's a horrible name for what is actually happening with the body. You're not starving. Sometimes when you're consuming too little calories it can slow your metabolism down because your body doesn't have enough to sustain itself. However, basic math dictates that if you're burning more calories than you consume, you WILL lose. Plateaus can't and won't last forever. With that said, don't listen to what calories MFP tells you. It's an app, not a person who specializes in dealing with bariatric patients. I personally think 1200 calories a day sounds about right for you, however if you think you need to do something differently, see a nutritionist. That's the only way you're going to get an educated and reliable response to how many calories you should be consuming based on your activity level. Best wishes.
  16. After 3 weeks of a plateau, the scale FINALLY moved again today! It's about freak'n time!

    8Th Fill And Nothing

I would demand to have your band checked. Have him check the Fluid level, not from your charts, but from actually withdrawing the fluid to verify how much is in there (it can immediately be put back in, no biggie). This way, you'll know if there's a leak. If there is no leak, demand to have your band placement checked, just to be sure you don't have a slip. Good luck.

    Hungry And Worried

Remind yourself everything you're going through is normal, including the hunger. However, also remind yourself you're on a restricted diet right now to allow your stomach time to heal. It has been stitched and is swollen, and it's imperative you stick to your surgeon's post op diet without cheating so you give it time to heal. You can do this.

What Type Of Diets Are U Required To Be On

Unfortunately we can't answer that because every surgeon is different and has different required diets. Some don't have a pre op diet at all. Your best bet is to contact your surgeon specifically and ask what he/she requires.
