Im Going Crazy

Once your stomach is healed your doctor days it's ok, wine is fine once in awhile. I know quite a few that enjoy a glass of wine with dinner daily. -
Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
TKW, you are correct, your caloric intake shouldn't change with carb cycling. My daily limits are the same they've always been. That hasn't changed. All that's changed is the fact I go low carb every other day. The high carb days I eat like I always have. It's not for everyone- but then again neither is low carb all the time or high carb all the time. It's like I always say, everyone has to experiment to find what works best for them and their metabolism. -
Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Because the reality is, you do have to watch what you eat to lose weight, band or not band. There is no difference between us carb cycling and so many on here on low carb all the time. I see TONS of posts about low carb bandsters, they can't have bread, can't have pasta, etc. That's fine if that's what works for them. This is no different. It's called maximizing your food intake, in a healthy manner, to help your metabolism be at it's most effective. Stopping carb cycling won't make you stop losing nor will it result in gaining. You may go back to a plateau or you may lose slower, but again, that's no different than everyone doing low carb. And actually, you can maintain weight loss with calorie control, regardless of what you did to lose the weight as long as it was done in a healthy manner. This isn't drugs or some fad, nor is it a gimmick, this is about making the most out of what you consume. We're losing weight eating healthy food- nothing else. You're free to do what you like and lose as slow as you like, that's your right. However, I want this weight gone and I will take whatever healthy steps I can take to get rid it of as quickly and efficiently as I can. -
It's all surgeon preference usually. However with Allergan being sold off, I suspect you won't be seeing them offered much longer.

Im Going Crazy

I hate to tell you this, but you're never supposed to have carbonation after being banded. Carbonation can lead to slips and most surgeons forbid sodas, or any carbonation, ever again after getting the band. I know some people do have soda, however when I was in the hospital getting banded the woman sharing my room was in there for a band replacement. She had been drinking soda and not only did her band slip, but her stomach actually prolapsed up through her band. She also regained 40 pounds. I will never, ever touch carbonation again. It's not worth the risk. You will have to check with your own surgeon to be certain. -

You did good!! -
Welcome! That's the beauty of the band- you can always start over. I would strongly suggest a visit to your surgeon as well as your nutritionist. Both are crucial to getting back on track being successful with the band. Best wishes to you!

Fast Question!

Yes, just be mindful that it's high in fat and calories, but in moderation sure! For me, popcorn is a slider food. It goes down very easily. -
If you weren't given anything for nausea, call your doctor immediately. He can call a script in for you. Even if you have to call their after hours number- do it. Vomiting so soon after surgery is very dangerous and you need to avoid it at all cost. Best wishes to you and feel better.

It can't hurt to try! It's like I tell people all the time, the only way you can find out what works best for your own body is to experiment. Some do great on strictly low carbs, others do fine eating tons of carbs. Everyone's body and metabolism does well under different circumstances, the trick is finding the best one for you. -
Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

See that's so funny, because I'm just the opposite. The high carb days are a breeze for me but I struggle with the low carb ones big time. Just getting in enough calories on the low carb days is hard. It's just so filling and I have no appetite. I agree about the band. I don't even attempt solid foods in the morning, I'm way too tight when I first wake up. By lunch I'm fine, but for breakfast I just have a protein shake. What's weird is this: If I take a nap during the day, when I wake up, I'm super tight again. I've missed countless dinners because I took a late nap and couldn't eat when I woke up. -

You're doing great! I'm usually between 20-25g of fat for high carb days!! Dinner sounds yummy by the way. -
Having A Hard Time With The Protein Shake
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to jaereynoso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally love the unjury Protein shakes. I'm 10 months post op and still drink one for Breakfast every day. However, it all boils down to trying different ones until you find one you like. Best wishes. -
You'll have to ask your doctor. Some say yes, others say no.

I eat a lot of cheese LOL! I am a cheese-aholic big time! I eat nuts too, in fact I just ate a spoonful of peanut butter lol. Fish is a good idea! Why didn't I think of that? I think I'm going to get a bag of frozen orange roughy so I can make one fillet at a time as I need them. Thank you!! -
Help. I Fell Off The Exercise Wagon

Do something you truly enjoy then it's not such a chore. For instance, I have physical issues beyond my weight so my exercise ability is limited. But, I really love walking outside, so walk about 2 miles at least 5 days a week. Because I enjoy it, it's not like "ugh I have to walk", I actually look forward to my walks. Experiment, find something you like and hopefully that will motivate you. -
I too am a big texture person. I hate steak not because of the taste but because of the texture. If I get a piece of meat in my mouth with even a little fat on it, or if it gets all stringy, I will literally gag and have to spit it out. I find if I prepare meat in a way to keep it nice and moist, I do ok with it. I'm big on marinades for both pork chops and chicken. I let them soak for at least 3 hours before cooking them. When meat is moist it doesn't get that stringy chewy texture. I would do a little experimentation and see if different cooking methods improve your experience.

I'm on a low carb day today, too. I need to find some variety because I swear I eat the exact same thing for every low carb day. My problem is, I am not a meat eater at all so due to my finickiness I don't feel I have a lot of choices. -

Is This Normal Or Should I Call The Doctor?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Banditiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dry mouth is common, just drink lots and lots of Water. The band isn't supposed to stop you from eating or drinking anything. There's no reason you shouldn't be drinking normally. The band is only supposed to keep you satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. Keep in mind it will likely be a couple fills before it adequately appeases your hunger. Best wishes. -

Almost 2 Years After My Surgery, I Have A Very Sad History To Tell
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to mell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For those vomiting... -Has your doctor checked you for a slip? Vomiting is NEVER normal with the band, in fact it can and does lead to slips and other complications. If you're vomiting regularly then something is very wrong and it's imperative you get the root of the problem immediately. As far as too big of bites causing vomiting, yes, it can. This is why many nutritionists and doctors say our bites should be no bigger than your fingernail. Best wishes. -
Need Help,advise.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Cooper1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you're struggling. First, you need to remember that fills don't make you lose weight, burning more calories than you consume results in losing weight. All the fills are supposed to do is to allow you to go longer without hunger on less food. You say sometimes you can eat and others you can't. Are you taking small enough bites and chewing thoroughly? Often people think their bites are small but in band life reality they're not small enough. My nutritionist always said bites should only be about the size of your fingernail. How many calories a day are you consuming? Are you sticking to a cup or less of food per meal? -

Hiding The Lap Band From Others And General Advice For A Newbie
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to dreamers's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
A couple things, first, remember this is your choice and don't ever feel bad about hiding it. You don't owe anyone any explanations for your eating habits. Maybe someday you'll be comfortable sharing the fact you're banded, but for now, do what makes you happy. As far as eating with others. Honestly, if you're careful to chew thoroughly and take small bites, you'll be just fine. I eat out rather often and only once have I ever had an issue. It was totally my fault, too. I didn't chew nearly enough and wasn't paying attention to what I was eating all. You'll learn what works best with your band, what gives you trouble, and you can always eat publicly accordingly. It really isn't hard to hide at all. At least I don't think so.
