Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Her profile is blank so I'm not sure, but if she is newly banded, I hope she listens to your wise advice.

    New Years Jump Start

Granted I'm no doctor and this is strictly what works for me, but when I get stuck or need to regroup, I carb cycle for a couple weeks. If you'd like to learn more there's a very long thread on it here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/159669-carb-cycling-an-experiment-gone-right/ Again, this is just what seems to help me (and some others, as you'll see on the thread). I really believe the trick is figuring out what works best for your specific body and metabolism. Some do high protein/low carb, some just count calories, others just restrict fat. For me, the carb cycling works well getting me back on track and losing.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

It's no different and no more a fad than people who follow low carb all the time, which a lot of people on these forums do. It's a matter of what works best for your body and metabolism, nothing more.
  4. Trying to eat with a sore, swollen throat and the Lap Band doesn't work well at all. This sucks.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I've lost about 18 pounds during the times I carb cycle. I only do it to break plateaus or after "bad eating days", like Thanksgiving or my recent vacation. I'll be doing it again for a couple weeks after New Year's. Goes to show how everyone is different. The only time I restrict carbs is when I carb cycle on low carb days, otherwise I count calories but never carbs yet I've lost great amounts the last year.

Happy people get good results ?

I very much believe it, not just with surgery but with all things in life. I believe when it comes to health matters in particular, your outlook and optimism play a huge role.

Bandster HE** ~ HOW LONG ?

I was only in it for about 4 months and from what I've read from others, I was one of the rare lucky ones. I've read of people in bandster hell 6-9 months. Hang in there, it will get easier.

    Baby aspirin

Talk to your doctor to be sure, but unless you had problems with NSAIDS and/or ulcers before band surgery, it's highly unlikely you'll start having problems with them now.
  9. Sounds like either gas or swelling.

    how is this even possible

A big part of that could be water weight and swelling from surgery. Also keep in mind that liquids doesn't necessarily mean low calories. If you're drinking a lot of juice or other high sugar/high calorie liquids, those calories can add up very quickly.

    Maintence Weight Calories

I would do as your nutritionist advises. She knows best.

    Delicious Protein shake

I personally prefer Unjury protein shakes. I'm almost a year post op and I still have an Unjury Chocolate Splendor shake for breakfast every morning.

    Gastritis????

Do you take NSAIDS regularly? Have you been drinking alcohol? Both can cause gastritis. If you don't know the cause of yours, I'd definitely see your surgeon, just to be sure it wasn't caused by a backup of bile from your band being out of place or too tight. Best wishes.
  14. Ask the hospital, because many anesthesiologists will say no fake nails or nail polish of any kind are allowed to be worn during surgery. The reason is, they watch your nails for signs of breathing distress while you're under. If they see your nail beds turning purple or blue, they know you need more oxygen. It's all part of the many little things and signs they use to be sure you're getting the best care.

    I needed that....

You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. I mean, really, that's like saying "sorry for being human". If anything, I respect you greatly for having the courage not only to come on here and share your mistakes but for taking back control in your life to correct them. You're human, just like the rest of us. You messed up a bit but now you're back on track. You're going do to great, just stick to it

    eating seems to be increasing

You're not supposed to be eating until you're full, only until you're satisfied. If you're eating until you're full then you're eating too much. The band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating, either. This is exactly why it's so important to limit your meals to a cup or less of food, regardless of how much you can physically eat. The band is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, but you have to do your part too. Read this link, I think it may help: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

    drinks detrimental on weight loss?

I think maybe you misunderstood your doctor. Diet soda is zero calories so it's not any calories at all. However, soda of any kind is carbonated. The majority of doctors forbid carbonation of any kind after Lap Band surgery because carbonation can lead to complications and slips. So, for that reason, normally soda is off limits after band surgery. Energy drinks are often very high in calories and sugar, so be careful with them. I'd go back and talk to your doctor again.

    Help Plz!! :(

I would go back to the hospital. You're very newly banded but still more than a week post op. You should've had some improvement by now and should at least be able to sip water/liquids. The fact you're vomiting on Water is very dangerous, especially so soon after surgery, and the fact your surgeon's partner doesn't take this seriously is scary at best and opening their practice up for a malpractice suit at best. Right now your first and foremost concern should be hydration and you sound as though you're likely dehydrated again. Go back to the ER and get hydrated. Then, call your surgeon's partner and be a b*tch if you have to but demand that he does his job or you won't hesitate to legal action for any problems his neglect has caused. I am so very sorry you're going through this. What you're going through is horrible. Hang in there and don't give up on getting the care you deserve.

    Fills Post-Green Zone and Encouragement

Mine says the same thing. Drink right up until the point I start to eat, then wait until 30 minutes after eating to drink again.

    Struggling 1 month post op....

Good luck going forward on your journey. As far as what to eat now, stick to whatever your nutritionist advises. If you haven't seen one, make an appointment to meet with one as soon as you can.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I don't eat every 3 hours nor do I follow his exercises. I do the carb cycling itself, including eating within a half hour of waking and the cheat day, but I definitely have modified his program to fit my life.

    Fills Post-Green Zone and Encouragement

Don't go by other people's experience. Everyone is different and everyone reaches the Green Zone at different levels in their band. It's all dependent not only on the size band you have but your individual anatomy. Forget about the numbers- it's irrelevant. All that matters is how you feel.

    Fills Post-Green Zone and Encouragement

I wouldn't say Fluid seeps out every month, in fact, once you're in the green zone you can go many months without needing a fill. Over time the fluid does diminish but that's over considerable time. You had your surgery in early November, yes? It takes the majority of people multiple fills before they can feel a difference. Be patient, it'll come. Just be sure to continue to follow up with your surgeon. Best wishes.

I'm glad you called and will be praying the vomiting stops. Let us know how it goes.

    pain and vomit day 3

Call your surgeon's office ASAP. If you can't reach them because of the holiday, go to the ER. Vomiting so soon after surgery is extremely dangerous. You need some anti-nausea meds immediately and the ER can give them to you.
