Mine doesn't require NPO either, however I do stop eating a couple hours before the fill.

You call your doctor and get checked out immediately. Just curious, what size band do you have? -
Getting banded on Tuesday... Worries
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to txgirll's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember, it is all 100% in your control. You can lose as much as you're committed to losing and you can keep it off forever if you're willing to change your eating habits to healthy ones for a lifetime. Best wishes. -

You are totally right on all counts. Especially the slower losing with lower BMI. When I started, my BMI was a whopping 72 and I could easily lose 20-30 pounds a month. Now that I've lost a lot and my BMI is lower, I'm lucky to lose 4 pounds a month (lately less). But like you, I'm totally fine with that. As long as the scale isn't going up, I'm happy. -
postpartum weight gain
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Angela from nz's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Just because you're gaining doesn't mean anything is wrong with your band. It simply means you're consuming more calories than you're burning. You're in a tricky spot because you're breast feeding. If I were you, I'd go see your nutritionist so they can help you establish food guidelines and a calorie range that are healthy for a breast feeding mom. Best wishes and congrats on your baby. -
Honestly, yes. As a general rule, I don't feed them unhealthy food because they need healthy food as much as I do. I eat with my family so I just cook good stuff for all of us. The only exception would be if we're having a dinner on the run (which is rare) and then they get fast food and I just have a protein bar or shake. But otherwise, we eat the same things for meals.

[quote name=krissy ' timestamp='1382297048' post='2064093] Missy... I am wondering what your daily eating schedule looks like. I am impressed with your accomplishment! Also, what is your exercise regimend? Do you count calories, or Proteins, or anything special that helps you? I will do whatever it takes, but I don't seem to be getting any good information. I know I need exercise, but I am just so tired after chasing 21 2nd graders around all day lol Thanks! I do count calories, in fact I do so religiously and have since the day I got home from the hospital. I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day I never eat more than 1 cup of food per meal I don't restrict carbs I eat at least 60g of Protein daily (protein should be your weight times .3) My main exercise is walking (I'm limited what I can do due to other health issues) That's all I do- which isn't complicated at all. While I don't count or limit carbs, I do try to make the carbs I do eat healthier ones. I try to stay away from any "white" or "enriched" carbs. I stick to whole grain bread, whole wheat Pasta, brown rice, and potatoes. -

[quote name=krissy ' timestamp='1382295377' post='2064085] I'm frustrated too. I was banded 8/2/13 and have not lost anything more than when I went in... I have only had one fill... I do good all day, then when I get home I am starving... I can eat whatever, except for chicken or meat get stuck.. I have a friend that started an Atkins diet in Aug and has lost 50 lbs - I feel like a fool that this is not working for me.. Hoping that my next fill will do something for me. My Dr. Grossbard did the surgery... I asked him and his office for a diet plan... he responded anything except fat... and I asked how much Protein or sugar.. he just repeated himself... I was so ticked off - I felt like he's there for the $. Not sure, but I am going to go back for my next fill and if no success... try another dr!!!! I am feeling disappointed, big time! If I were you, I'd go see a nutritionist and let them help you establish both a calorie range and a diet that works for you. It would really help a lot. -
seriously thinking of lapband
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to susanmm50's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If by sick you mean vomiting, that isn't part of having the band. In fact vomiting should be avoided at all costs. If you mean malnutrition, that isn't an issue either so long as you're eating a healthy balanced diet. As far as medicine, I've never had a problem taking pills. In fact I take pills every night before bed without issue. If you have to take yours with food, you'll just have to be sure to include it against your daily calories. -
seriously thinking of lapband
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to susanmm50's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Susan and welcome! Post op, every doctor seems to have their own diet that must be follow while you heal. But once you're past the healing phase and back onto real food, you can eat pretty much whatever you want just in smaller quantities. Ideally, you should strive for healthy food choices high in Protein, but that isn't to say you won't still be able to have old favorites, too. The only thing that gives me problems is dry meat. Otherwise, I can and do eat pretty much anything. I always say the band is about moderation not deprivation. Best wishes! -
The only bad thing about losing 230+ pounds? Lack of insulation! I used to always be hot and wear short sleeves year round, now I'm wearing layers upon layers and still absolutely freezing!

Ugh I couldn't agree more. If I see what should be a paragraph, but it's typed as one huge sentence with no punctuation, I ignore it entirely. I don't have the time or patience to try to decipher that stuff. -
At five days after surgery, you shouldn't be eating real food at all. What does your post op diet say you should be eating right now?

i cant keep liquids down

Either call your surgeon's after hours number or go to the ER. If you can't drink liquids you need some fluid removed ASAP. -

Whether or not your loss is on target depends on how much you started off weighing, how much you need to lose, and how much you currently weigh. In answer to your question, I've lost over 230 pounds in 20 months. -
Are you talking about the portion of your stomach above your band stretching? If so, it depends on how severely it's stretched. Stretching is usually caused by chronic over eating, so be careful of portion sizes going forward. I would ask your doctor. He can tell you what, if anything, can or should be done for your specific situation.

hematoma
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Calista Burage's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not at my port site but on other places. A hematoma is a collection of blood under the skin. It occurs from bleeding under the skin, usually after injury. Essentially, it's a big bruise. Sometimes if the pressure is enough under the skin, the blood will drain. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because it'll help it heal faster and feel better. Just watch it for signs of infection otherwise I wouldn't worry about it. They're no big deal. -
If you've been too tight, it can definitely cause a slip. So can over eating and vomiting. The fact you had reflux leads me to think being too tight likely caused the slip. It's really important that you educate yourself on the band so this doesn't happen again. Talk your surgeon and learn the basics as well as the do's and don'ts. Good luck
-
That's normal. You're on limited calories and liquids aren't filling at all. I was on liquids the first 4 weeks after surgery and was starving pretty much the whole time. It sucked but I survived it. Just remember this is a temporary phase necessary for healing.

Not eating enough
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to carrie.0508's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine also says to only eat if I'm hungry. I'm never hungry in the morning so I just have a Protein shake. For the rest of the day, I'm careful to get in lots of protein and veggies when I do eat. It took me awhile to get it right but now even eating just two meals and one shake a day, I manage to get in 1000-1200 calories a day. -
Gastroparesis?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Corridor72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is strictly my opinion. I'm no doctor and I'm no expert. With that said, if it were me, there is no way I'd get the Lap Band if I already had gastroparesis. Gastroparesis causes the muscles in the stomach to not function properly and because of it there are issues emptying. It's rare but gastroparesis can be a complication of the Lap Band anyway as a result of the pressure on the Vagus nerve. This then can lead to other serious complications, including band erosion because of food sitting and digesting above the band. Again, just my opinion, but if it were me there's no way I'd get the Lap Band if I knew I already had gastroparesis. -
Plastic Surgery Question
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Ale817's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends. Some want the band unfilled and some don't unfill it all. You will have to ask your surgeon what his specific protocol is.
