Do you ever have irritation from taking pills?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't matter if some go down, all that matters is the fact some don't. If you're feeling burning around your band, something isn't right and it sounds like some are dissolving above the band. If it were me, I'd be making an appointment with my doctor immediately. -

That could be a sign the pill isn't passing through the band but rather dissolving above it. That's not good and can lead to erosion, especially since Aleve is an NSAID. I would talk to your doctor ASAP. You might want to switch to liquid. -
The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are for healing, not losing. I wouldn't be too worried about it. If you really want to lose even during the healing phase, start counting calories and keeping your food to a cup or less per meal. Best wishes.

I can see a butterfly but I don't see a ticker on your posts. I think the site may be acting up. People were having problems seeing pictures in one of my posts yesterday, but not everyone, just some people.

Broth only soup options
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can strain the "stuff" out of any soup and just drink the broth. For instance, I think chicken noodle broth tastes a lot better than canned chicken broth, so I just strained out all the noodles and only drank the broth. I did the same with a beef type soup, too. -
Before my last fill, I would eat close to a cup of chili for lunch. Now, I can hardly finish 1/3 cup before the hiccurps set in. It's amazing what a huge difference only .3cc can make.

Lapband and that time of the month??
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Tina Ramirez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I find my band tightens up the first couple days. I still get the cravings big time, for me it's usually cheese or chocolate (not together though lol). I don't graze, but I do plan my calories to allow me to have a little taste. For instance, I'll order pizza for dinner (cheese) but I'll only have one slice and let my family eat the rest. Or I'll have Skinny Cow chocolate candy for a snack. For the last year, it works. I don't feel deprived but I make it through my periods without gaining, in fact I usually lose despite it. -
Off to see my neurologist tomorrow. I've lost 76 pounds since I saw him in June so I'm excited to see his reaction!

cough with congestion 3 days post op
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to melidawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's really important to breath deep and cough after surgery. When they put you under anesthesia, they put a tube down your wind pipe to help you breath. This irritates your throat considerably. The anesthesia itself depresses all your body functions- or makes it all kinda "sleepy"- including your respiratory system. Because of all this, you're at a higher risk of pneumonia. A cough and phlegm isn't unusual after surgery at all, but it's real important to cough to get all that gunk out of your chest. Hug a pillow if hurts, but don't try to stop the coughing. It's coughing that stuff up that will keep you from getting pneumonia. Best wishes. -
Did my lap band slip?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Lacey8724's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately there's no way we can know or even guess, just be sure to get into your surgeon tomorrow. If it has slipped, the sooner they catch it the better chance you have of being able to fix it without surgical intervention. Personally, I'd stick to liquids until you see your doctor tomorrow, just to be safe. Best wishes. -
You'll find every surgeon has their own idea what works best. Mind seems to be more cautious than most, but I'm ok with that
-
I was on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery, so I didn't get mushy food until the 5th week. Yes, I've had a lot of success actually. I've lost 181 pounds in the year since I was banded.
-
I was told no more than 1 cup of food per meal. That's what I've been doing for the last year since getting banded without any problems.
-
I eat Pasta and rice all the time with no problems. I just take really small bites and chew it until it's absolutely mush. Olive Garden will let you order their lunch portions any time of day, btw. That's what I do when I eat there because it's a much smaller portion. (even though it's still a huge portion and I end up taking 2/3 of home)

Do I need a fill in order to feel restriction?

That's normal, it takes most people multiple fills before they have adequate Fluid in their band. -
Do I need a fill in order to feel restriction?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Dreamer2013's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome! You have to remember that weight loss has nothing to do with fills. Weight loss occurs when you're eating less calories than you burn. Where the band comes in is helping to control hunger, allowing you to be satisfied on less food for longer periods of time. It's not supposed to stop you from eating. It will always be your job to limit portions to a cup or less per meal and to make healthy food choices, not the band's job. Have a look at this link, I think it may help you considerably: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html Best wishes. -

You're not supposed to have issues or reflux. Plus, you haven't had any fills, so it's highly doubtful your band will be noticeable at all right now. As far as the band itself, I think maybe this will help you better understand it, what it's supposed to do, and what it's not supposed to do: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html -

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! That is just horrible!! Will insurance cover it so you can at least rebuild? I will definitely keep you in my prayers. -
Frustrated with my recent fill!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to ginalareine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree, sounds like you need a slight unfill. I had a .1cc unfill once and it made all the difference in the world. -
If it helps, I have to go on full liquids for 24-48 hours after a fill. I'm pretty sure yours probably means full liquids, too.

Skinny Cow makes some simply amazing candies and Cookies. They come in little packages and are usually around 130-160 calories. When I'm truly craving something sweet, it's what I go for. Oddly, there's some shockingly good sweet cereals that won't blow your diet, either. Sometimes I have a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. 3/4 cup of it is only 120 calories.

I agree with the others. First, attend a seminar and find out all the facts about the Lap Band. Be sure to really research it, too. Learn what to expect from the band and what you'll be expected to do to be successful with it. Learn the risks, too. With that said, I have been big my whole life. When I was your age, I was about your size too. Honestly, I wish the band existed back then. It would've saved me from an adulthood of obesity and eventually ballooning up to over 400 pounds. Best wishes to you.
