Thinking of switching to a sleeve
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, it sounds like you need to talk to your doctor. For instance, did he put Fluid in your band during surgery? If so, you probably want to have some removed. Maybe you need to have your band placement checked, too. As far as weight loss, 5-7 pounds is actually right on the expected schedule of 1-2 pounds a week. You have to remember, the weight didn't come on overnight and it's not going to disappear overnight either. Hang in there, but definitely talk to your doctor and nutritionist. -

Holy cow, the change in you is nothing less than amazing!!! You should hold onto that shirt, blazer, and jeans so after you're done losing you can compare them and show how far you've come. I am SO proud of you!!!! -
Physician's assistant made me feel like a failure

You need to insist to see the doctor next time, not her. What she did and how she treated you is completely uncalled for, unprofessional, and downright cruel. Not to mention she's apparently a complete moron. Losing 5 pounds a week?? The average is 1-2 pounds a week! And comparing your band amount to others? It's completely irrelevant because everyone's anatomy is different! That women needs to be slapped upside the head because maybe it'll knock a little common sense and empathy into her. (lol sorry I'll quit ranting now, but oh my gosh I'd be so angry if I were you!) But seriously, please don't let her get you down. She's obviously has no clue what she's talking about or how to do her job. Don't let her ignorance discourage you. Remember, the doctor's office and his staff work for you. You are the employer and they are the employees. You demand that you see the doctor from now on and make it very clear you refuse to let that horrible woman have any part in your treatment. That is your right as both their employer and their patient. Best wishes. -
Wow, you look great in them too!! Rock those boots!! You should be proud!

Unfortunately it's unavoidable for awhile. The liquids phase after surgery sucks but it's necessary for healing. You only have a couple more days of clear liquids then you can start to work in some full liquids and Protein shakes. Hang in there.

It really depends on your food guidelines and specific needs. There is a lot of high Fiber, healthy cereal out there. But if you're on a low carb diet or cereal is too much of a slider food for you then it's probably best to stay away from it. I personally don't do the whole low carb thing. I absolutely love cereal and I eat it a couple times a week. Truth is, if I'm having a nasty sweet tooth, it's a great way to satisfy it without going over my daily calories or fat intake. As with a lot of things, it all comes down to what works specifically for you.

I saw my neurologist today. Kinda scary, he told me if I hadn't lost all the weight this past year, there was a good chance I wouldn't have been able to walk anymore by now. It's amazing how much weight loss can effect every aspect of your health.

What did "outsiders" tell you before Lap Band surgery?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to lapbandkeira's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it would never work for me because I was "too fat". I have 2 friends that got Gastric Bypass around the same time I got the band. They both repeatedly told me how stupid I was for going with the band instead of Gastric Bypass like them. They said I wouldn't lose nearly as much weight as they would. Fast forward...one the friend who got Gastric Bypass has lost about 60 pounds. The other only 30. Neither changed their eating habits at all. I, on the other hand, have lost over 180 with the Lap Band. Needless to say, neither dare say a word how "stupid" I was to choose the band over Gastric Bypass -
need some positve or motivating encouragement

First, breath I'm going to try to ease your fears one by one: Vomiting- If you're vomiting, something is seriously wrong. You should never ever vomit with the band. I've never vomited and if I did, I'd be in seeing my surgeon immediately. Eating with others- there is no reason you can't eat with others. I can still eat whatever I want, I just choose to eat healthy and much smaller portions. I cook and eat family dinners almost every night, I eat out a lot, and I even take road trips with my family. I never feel deprived or left out. Losing weight- Aside from a medical problem, if you're burning more calories than you consume you will lose weight. Simple as that. If someone is complaining they never lost weight after being banded then they've done something seriously wrong. Unfortunately that does happen, too. The band is a tool, not a magic fix for fat. I've lost over 180 pounds since my surgery last January. I'm living proof that if you follow the rules and do the work, you can and will lose weight successfully with the band. Best wishes. -
very worried about my surgeon!
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to gshock1965's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would without a doubt cancel the surgery, find a new surgeon, have your records sent to him, and reschedule with a new surgeon. Even if the delay was months, it's better to be delayed than dead. I'm not trying to be dramatic or scare you, but your life is worth so much more than the risk of going under the knife with an incompetent surgeon. -
Ok maybe im thick!

As state by the poster above me, a deck of cards is a great way to eyeball portion size for things that can't be measured in a cup. Or, 3oz-4oz of meat. When I have chicken for dinner, I'll weigh the chicken on a food scale but then I know I only have about a 1/2 cup of food left for veggies and starches. -
Week 6: When will I start loosing weight?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Cloud_dance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The honest answer is, you'll lose weight when you're burning more calories than you consume. I hate to over simplify things, but it's the truth. The best advice I can give you is to track your calories so you know you're staying within the daily allowance your nutritionist gave you, make sure your meals are never more than a cup of food, and start exercising regularly even if it's only walking. Best wishes. -

You shouldn't be vomiting with the band ever but especially so soon after surgery. You need to call your surgeon ASAP. -
Banded in July, new to LBT
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to AprilParker's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi April and welcome! First, congratulations on your weight loss!! My band is very finicky. Any even hint of a cold or illness, my period, and even stress seem to make my band tighten right up. It's possible it was a fluke but now your stomach is irritated, hence the ongoing problems. If I were you, I'd go on liquids for a day to give your tummy time to calm and see if that doesn't help. Best wishes. -
Anyone looking for something seriously filling yet good tasting, try the Atkins light meal bars. VERY filling and they taste like cheating but they're low calorie, low carbs, and high protein.

I honestly believe little indulgences like the small piece of your dad's birthday cake, are important. If we feel deprived there's no way we're going to be able to stick to this lifestyle. I say have the little piece of cake, enjoy it, and move on. You handled it beautifully because you had your slice and declined to take any home, now you're back to life as usual. I actually had a yummy cake for my birthday in June. I had a slice, each of my kids had a slice, and before I went to bed that same night I threw the entire rest of the cake in the trash. I knew that there was nothing wrong with enjoying one piece, but I also knew if that cake hung around for days one piece would easily turn into half a cake.

Anyone still having trouble getting pregnant?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to LessToLove902's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Unfortunately there could be a lot going on that has absolutely nothing to do with your weight. Heck, it could even be an issue with your husband. You best bet is for you both to get thoroughly checked out to figure out where the problem is. -

Good luck!! -
I am the exact same way. If it's a serious unrelenting craving, I'm much better off having a small piece of chocolate and tracking it than grazing on everything in sight trying to appease the craving. It's better to have a little of something "bad" than over-eat on "good" things sometimes.

1st week post op weightloss?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started counting calories and measuring food portions the day I got home from the hospital and I really think that's why I lost a lot even early on. I lost around 13 pounds my first week and I lost close to 27 pounds the first month. By my first fill 8 weeks after surgery, I was already down 44 pounds. -
Do you ever have irritation from taking pills?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pretty sure Naproxen does come in liquid but you have to get it through your doctor most likely. (Naproxen is the active ingredient in Aleve). I'm sure he'll be able to either tell you where to buy it or give you a prescription for it.
