You are exactly right. It's unfortunate so many people have drunk the Obamacare kool aid and refuse to see the facts.

Lotsa spit
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to carrie.0508's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could. Have you had any problems drinking? Personally, I wait 24-48 hours to start eating real food again after a fill. It gives the band time to calm and the swelling to go down. -
Linx Surgery and Lap Band
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Doodlex2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would talk to a a surgeon about this because it seems like it would contradict the Lap Band. Either way, it's really important you figure out the cause of the reflux and how to control it because you're at really high risk for esophageal erosion if it continues. What does your bariatric surgeon say? Has your band been checked for a slip or esophageal dilation? -
Is The Band Really Failing You, Or Are You Failing The Band?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Christina, I have so much respect for learning about the band and starting over again. I think you should look at this as your new "first day" and go forward from here. I'm sure you'll have amazing success -
Ground Turkey
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Essence33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I substitute ground turkey for ground beef in recipes all the time. Just be aware of the fat content. It's a common misconception that all ground turkey is healthier than beef and that's not always true, in fact some is actually higher in calories and fat than beef. Just read the labels to be safe and enjoy -
I like the Luna bars, specifically the Lemon Zest and the Coconut.

I'm extremely sorry for all you've been through. There is a risk with any WLS. Fortunately, complications such as yours are rare and only occur about 5% of the time. -
Getting approved BMI 41 no comorbidities, letter of medical necessity
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Wendydarling19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Countrysweet is correct, the standard is a BMI of 35 with two or more comorbidities or a BMI of 40 with no comorbidities. If I were you, I'd talk to your surgeon's office. They may have a specific doctor they use for situations like yours. -
To fill or not to fill?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to bamamom911's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ask yourself, are you satisfied on a cup or less food for at least four hours? If yes, you may not need a fill. If no, you may need a fill. -

Gall Bladder removed.

It's common after weight loss, so people who have WLS are more likely to have their gallbladder removed. I had mine removed this past spring. -
Stuck? Slip?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Essence33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, it's the same definition for everyone. Slip is a band slip, which means it's ripped it's stitches and moved out of place around the stomach. There are different degrees of slips, some very minor and easily fixed just by going on liquids and some severe requiring band removal or replacement. The main causes of slips are bands too tight, vomiting and over eating. Stuck is when food gets stuck above the band and can't pass as it should. Usually, it's pretty brief but sometimes it can last awhile and even require doctor intervention. If you're stuck bad enough, you may even PB (productive burp) the food back up. The main causes of getting stuck are not chewing enough, not taking small enough bites, not pausing between bites, or even a band too tight. Hope that helps! -
No more lap bands in my area?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to m1aman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have noticed in some areas of the country, mostly more rural and less densely populated areas. I really believe it's because the Sleeve and Bypass are the money makers and a lot surgeons see Lap Bands as a pain the butt because of all the necessary (not money making) follow up. -

restriction at 7600 ft elevation
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to intelirish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so weird how some people have issues at higher elevation and some don't. I guess I'm lucky because both I've flown and been at around 9000 ft elevation and never had a problem or felt a difference. -
Sleep Apnea?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Essence33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I did. Now, not only do I no longer have a sleep apena but I don't even snore anymore. It's pretty awesome! -

Text can't convey emotions. There are no voice inflections or body language to read. I could say "oh don't be silly" and you have no idea if I'm laughing and saying it playfully or scowling and saying it mean. The written word is up for interpretation and unfortunately the way you interpret it may not necessarily be the way the writer meant it. Just something to keep in mind when you're reading posts. -
Removal & Sleeve same surgery?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to sarcasticcupcake's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It depends on your doctor, the reason you're having the band removed, and the condition of your stomach. You'll have to ask your surgeon. -

Why don't you think you can take the Airborne? -
There are no "good" and "bad" foods, it's a matter of what type of diet you follow and your daily calories. If it fits into your diet and you have the calories for it- go for it. Personally I eat A LOT of baked potatoes. They're my favorite carb. Remember, moderation not deprivation.

Thanks for the link!! I think for me, the big flag would've been he still performed open surgery rather than laproscopic like everyone else. I would've immediately been finding a different surgeon for that reason alone. -
