If your clearance to return to full activity isn't until March 21 then wait a few more days. It's silly to risk it.

Weight loss better than expected
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to madmanmike's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations on your success! You've done simply amazing! Btw, but all of us get stuck and have issues. It's actually extremely rare that I get stuck and I can eat anything. Best wishes! -
Night time has always been my weakness. What's worse, my metabolism is as such that I can't eat at all after 7pm and still lose weight. It will sound weird, but I've kinda tricked/trained my brain. Every night when I get the urge to graze, I take a hot bath and brush my teeth. Now, when I do, it's like my brain goes "oh ok, it's bath and clean teeth time, no more eating". I'm then fine the rest of the night.

Yup me too. I get what I call hiccurps- it's like a combination hiccup and burp. When I get them I know I'm done eating, regardless of who much is still on my plate.

Pattern or a Problem: Your Thoughts (long post SORRY)
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to LadyMaggie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As already discussed above, it concerns me greatly that you were too tight after a 1cc fill, he removed .75cc, then proceeds to add 2cc. Where in the world is the logic in that? I'm still not exactly clear why he completely unfilled you, either. I've known that happening for a slip but not just for a band too tight. If I were in your shoes, I would be more aggressive with your surgeon. For instance, you'd be shocked how even a fill as tiny as .1cc can make a difference. I've actually had fills that small and it was the difference to put me in the Green Zone. Once you're back up to where you were as far as fill levels, I'd insist that your surgeon stops being so aggressive with the fills and starts giving you small conservative ones. If you doctor won't work with you, remember, you are the boss. He is your employee and works for you. If he's not willing to work with you to do the job in your best interest- fire him and find a doctor who will. Best wishes. -
Just a cup? Really?
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Karen85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, in fact I follow the one cup rule religiously. I never, ever eat more than a cup of food per meal. ...and a lot of times I can't even finish that much. -

Had my surgery

I was told to use Protein shakes with at least 20g of protein. Most of the Ensure products only have 12g of protein, however they do make a high protein version of Ensure that has 25g of protein. So, if you can find the high protein Ensure and you like it, I say go for it. -
Blood Pressure and Lap Band Surgery Question?????
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Food_vs_Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pulse went down with weight loss, too. It was around 100 now it's around 80. Sometimes even in the 70's. -
I agree with you 100%!!!!

Actually, with all due respect, it sounds like she was TOO tight before. Saying "Before that though i was eating crap food because healthy food was getting stuck all the time" is one of the classic but often missed signs of being too tight. When your band is too tight, people actually often gain weight because as she said, she was too tight to eat healthy foods. Remember, the band's job isn't to physically stop you from eating anything. Nor is it to control your portion size. The band's job is to keep you satiated on less food for longer periods of time. Here's some great articles that explain it very well: The Lap-Band is NOT about restriction and Tighter Isn't Always Better

You're only a failure if you quit trying. You haven't quit trying, you're here and you're trying to get back on track. Don't be so hard on yourself! You can do this, you really can. You just have to get your head back in the game and get your band to a point it as adequate Fluid in it. Hang in there

I walk 2 miles a day (weather permitting). Currently I'm not at all though because I tore cartilage in my knee. So, I'm keeping my calories closer to 1000 lately to make up for my inactivity.
-
I personally eat 1000-1200 calories a day.

Hope this isn't a crazy question...
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Froggy1125's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not a crazy question at all I'm no doctor, but I have researched all the different WLS extensively. I very firmly believe none is better or worse than any other, it's all a matter of choice and what's best specifically for you. I personally chose the Lap Band over the Sleeve because I didn't want them to hack out 3/4 of my stomach. I also didn't want to deal with dumping and God forbid I ever got cancer or some other horrible disease of the stomach, I'd be screwed because I could never get that part they cut out back. Btw, don't let anyone tell you the Sleeve or Bypass are the only options for someone morbidly obese. The day I got the Band, my BMI was a whopping 72 and I weighed over 400 pounds. In the 14 months since then, I've lost almost 200 pounds and my BMI is now in the high 30's. I'm still losing, too. You have to do what is best for you, whatever that may be. Best wishes. -
Blood Pressure and Lap Band Surgery Question?????
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Food_vs_Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, they did the surgery even with the high blood pressure. There was actually never any talk about not doing it because of the higher blood pressure. My surgeon just said it was good I was getting it done so I could lose weight and get it under control. It came down pretty quickly as I started losing, too. It's pretty amazing how fast the body starts turning itself around when weight starts comes off. Granted I'm no doctor, but I really believe you'll be just fine and have nothing to worry about. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery! -
Blood Pressure and Lap Band Surgery Question?????
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Food_vs_Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both systolic and diastolic are important, but it's the diastolic that you really don't want being high. The fact yours came down a bit is a very good thing. If it makes you feel any better, mine was getting very high before surgery too. The highest I saw it was 143/90. I never went on meds but losing weight has helped tremendously. When I was just at the doctor last week, it was was 118/70, which is great especially considering how high it was before. Hang in there, I bet you'll see big improvements as your weight goes down too. -
Why would a nutritionist tell you to do shakes when you're years past surgery? If that's the case, find a new one. One that will hopefully actually help you.

Getting back on track......
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to akwright68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's all a big learning experience, it really is. Plus, right now I'm guessing you're also in bandster hell, which makes it even harder. I think a lot of us are shocked to realize we don't feel like we have a band at all until we've had a couple fills. But, during this time is when it's most important to measure portions and calories so we can still lose despite being in bandster hell. Hang in there, today is a new day -
This is why you need to see your nutritionist, too. People's calories ranges go anywhere from 800-1600 calories a day depending on their own nutritional needs. You need to go see your nutritionist so they can help you set up food guidelines specific to your needs and lifestyle.

Halfway to goal weight!!!!!

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy and excited for you!!! -
Losing weight boils down to simple math: If you burn more calories than you consume, you lose. If you want to get back on track and losing, start tracking your calories so you can be sure you're not overeating. Also start measuring your portions. Get back into both your surgeon and nutritionist so you can get back track. Best wishes.

Pre-op diet??
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Chris_tina83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon has their own ideas what works and because of that only your own surgeon can answer your question. This is all information you should've gotten from your own doctor. If you haven't, give them a call or make an appointment and ask them to clarify exactly what you should be doing. Best wishes.
