What foods are mostly/always off limits now??

Honestly, there's nothing I can't eat. I can eat whatever I want so long as it's small well chewed bites.
  3. Gallbladder is going to be removed tomorrow morning then he wants to fix the hernias and do a tummy tuck next month. It's going to be a long couple weeks.

To weigh or not to weigh?

I probably weigh myself too much, both morning and night. But, it keeps me accountable. I got to over 400 pounds by avoiding the scale so I think it's crucial I weight myself regularly.
  5. Well I'm back in the hospital. Not only is the abdominal hernia acting up but apparently I have a gallbladder full of stones, too. My blood pressure keep dropping too. It's currently 90/53 and I have low potassium. I seriously have no idea what's going on and waiting for my doc. Prayers are welcome!

    Doctor holding back fills

Perhaps a visit to your nutritionist is in order. It's frustrating but too little calories can result stall your weight loss. I was eating 1000 calories a day and my loss crawled and even stopped. I increased my calories to 1200 a day and my weight loss picked up again.

    Ugh fill or not?

Have you seen your surgeon since the unfill in January? What does he say about fills?

How many calories a day are you eating? It's possible you're eating too little or too much.

Fat Set Point Theory and Plateaus...

Very interesting article. It's funny because though I have never known the term "fat set point" before now, I have known since the day I got banded I would struggle to get past the weight range I'm at right now. When I was a lot younger and would diet, it would be between 200-220 that I would always get frustrated because the scale would start barely creeping or stop moving entirely. I'd eventually give up so as a result haven't weighed under 200 pounds since I was 16 years old. I'm losing differently at this range, too. Until now, I would just consistently lose. Now, there is an entirely new pattern. I sit with the scale unmoving whatsoever awhile, it then will actually go up a pound or so, then within a couple days of that it makes big drop. For instance, last week it went up a pound then all the sudden plummeted 4 pounds. I've been the same weight since then. This morning I'm up a little over a pound a again and suspect in the next couple days it'll suddenly drop again. I think our bodies do have set points (or ranges) that are not easy to retrain it away from. But I do agree we can change it and beat it- it's just not easy and takes a lot of determination and patience.
  10. The number of people walking around with their bands too tight baffles me. Are people just (foolishly) ignoring their doctors or are there really that many bad bariatric surgeons out there? Jeez!

    So hungry

Unfortunately not a lot. Protein shakes help but it's going to be tough until you progress further in your post op diet.

do you lose more weight with...

I personally believe it doesn't matter which WLS you choose, the speed and success is completely dependant on the person. You have to remember, none of the WLS make you lose weight. They are all tools to make it easier to consume less calories so you lose weight. This is why people fail, too. They expect magic when they still have to make major lifestyle changes to be successful. As far as weight loss speed, again it depends on the person more than the WLS of choice. I've lost almost 200 pounds in 14 months, which people would expect from bypass not the band. But, I've done it and did it in a very healthy manner. Plication is just another tool, like any other WLS surgery.

would 0.3cc make THAT big of a difference? need advice

It can make a huge difference. In fact, even .1cc can be the difference between too tight and just right.
  14. Before getting banded in Mexico, it's imperative you do two things -Find out what size band they are going to use. Too often they are still using the old 4cc band in Mexico. It's been discontinued in the US and Europe because of the very high complication rate but unfortunately in Mexico it's still used to keep costs down because they can buy them cheap. Make sure you are NOT getting an old 4cc band. -Make sure you have a local surgeon to treat and fill you before you get the surgery. Very often this is a major problem because a lot of surgeons won't touch a patient banded in Mexico. Some will and do, but it's very important you have one lined up before you get the surgery.

    Protien Bars

Fiber One actually does make a couple Protein bars that have 10g of protein and are really good. Slimfast actually does too. So does Atkins. Kelloggs does also.

Getting nervous and low grade fever

Stress can't cause a fever. A fever is the body's natural reaction to virus or illness. Call your surgeon and let him know. Even if he does reschedule your surgery it's a good thing. Getting surgery with an infection or illness can be extremely dangerous.

    Hey

You can eat smaller portions, most doctors say no soda or carbonation, and alcohol is empty calories so not much. You should go to a seminar near you. They'll tell you all this.

    Worst Week EVER...

First, let me congratulate you for sticking to your liquid diet despite all the temptations. Seriously, you obviously have some major determination and I have no doubt you're going to be very successful with your band. The emotional crying? It's a lot more common than you realize. Not only is being on a liquid diet downright brutal but there is something in anesthetic that makes people very emotional and even depressed. So, it's no wonder you've had a rough week. You really are doing incredible. Just remind yourself this post op diet is temporary and soon you'll be healed back on real food. You can totally do this. Best wishes

    I'm hungry

If you're hungry going on liquids would be totally counter productive because you'll just get hungrier. Increase your Protein, it finds the hunger.
