Had Lap Band and have BIG sweet craving!

You need to back into your surgeon. You're too tight. Most sweets are slider foods, that's why you can eat them and why you're gaining weight.

    Band slip?

Liquids should go through ease. If you chew properly and take small enough bites, everything should go through with ease. Eating should never be a chore nor should food get stuck. You talked about going to Mexico, don't you have a local doctor to take of you? You should.

    Insurance??

You have to find out if they cover it under any circumstances and if they do, what their requirements are.
  4. I lost my Grandma today. I was holding her hand and telling her how much I loved her as she took her last breath. I swear if I can make it through this next week without gaining weight it'll be a miracle.

    Addison's Disease and Lap Band

Here's some information I think will help you, it's about dietary needs for Addison's disease. According to this, low carb diets wouldn't be a good choice for you because you actually need complex carbohydrates, low potassium, and extra sodium http://www.livestrong.com/article/442299-addisons-disease-diet/

Week 3 post op and starving!

Hunger is your body's natural response to needing fuel and to be expected. During the post op diet, people are often horribly hungry because liquids and mushy food aren't filling at all. I know it's a hard but time you're just going to have power through it to give your body time heal. It'll get easier.

    I need my band removed

Another thing to consider, even though a lot of insurance won't pay for WLS, most will pay for serious complications due to them because that is then considered a medical necessity. Perhaps you should check with yours so your mom won't have to pay? Just a thought.

    I need my band removed

Wow congratulations on your incredible weight losses. That is truly amazing. I'm so sorry you're having this problem. So you have band over bypass. When is the last time you saw your surgeon? Is your band slipped? Also, what size band do you have?
  9. Everything on this link: The Lap Band is NOT About Restriction I wish I could give this to everyone planning on getting the band so they'd have realistic expectations of their bands and know what is expected of them to be successful with their band.

    Ok-need some splainig...

I agree with eating when you're hungry- that's how I do it, too. But the rest I don't agree with. Vegetables are a great source of important nutrients and most doctors and nutritionists want us to eat them. I know I eat A LOT of salad and I load them up with Protein, too.

    Ok-need some splainig...

This is strictly my opinion. I'm not a doctor nor a nutritionist. Once you're healed back on regular food, you have to find food guidelines that work for you. Everyone is different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the rest. You have to find out what works best for you and your metabolism. I personally can't do the whole low carb/no carb thing. I need a diet routine that I can use for the rest of my life and that definitely isn't it. I believe in moderation not deprivation. I also believe there's nothing wrong with carbs as long as you choose healthy ones. I've lost over 200 pounds in 15 months btw so I'm living proof that you can lose while having carbs. I would go talk to a nutritionist, tell them your dilemma and see if maybe you can come up with a plan that is better for your life and more nutritionally balanced. When I originally saw mine, I told her flat out I refused to feel like I was being deprived and I didn't buy into the whole "carbs are bad" fad. She agreed and together we came up with a plan that works great for me. Best wishes.

    Advice on Dr Kuri

I did do my research and there are thousands of FDA reports about them, which is what led to them no longer allowed to be used in the USA. There is an extremely high complication rate with the 4cc band. This is fact. If someone is willing to risk their health using outdated bands- when there are newer safer ones available- that's their choice. But it's describable that "medical tourism" in Mexico uses them to cut financial corners.

    Help Please

Definitely call your doctor Monday. In the meantime, try some warm liquids like coffee or tea before you eat. It may help.

Need a jump start to stay committed!

Are you tracking your calories? It's the only way to be certain you're not eating too much or too little.

My most embarrassing "FAT GIRL" moment

I was in the grocery store about a year ago. I had already been banded and lost about 60 pounds but was still extremely big. Well, as I was walking with my kids, this little girl who was maybe 4yrs old starts pointing at me yelling very loud "mom look that fat girl!". She proceeded to yell this over and over, and the worst part is her idiot mom didn't even seem to care. If I could have punched the mother in the head I would have. Repeatedly.

    Advice on Dr Kuri

I would call a very high rate of serious complications to the point it's not allowed to be used in the US and UK defective.

Band seems to be interfering with the vasageal

Honestly, I really wouldn't. 99% of the time it's no big deal. Like I said, both my kids have it (makes me think it's genetic on their dad's side). They just have to be careful getting up too fast or standing while over-heated. It's actually really common. Hundreds of thousands of people have it they just don't realize what it's called, they just go "oh got up too fast!" and go about their day not giving it a second thought.

Band seems to be interfering with the vasageal

It's entirely possible because it does put pressure on the vagus nerve. However, you are also very recently out of revision surgery. That alone will take a toll on your body. Do you get enough Protein? I would also get a full blood panel done. Things like low B12, D3, Iron, potassium, and blood sugar can also cause this. This way you can rule out a treatable medical issue. Here is what your doctor is talking about, btw. It's actually not serious and it can come on any time during life with or without the band. Both of my kids have it (they don't have bands): http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vasovagal-syncope/DS00806
  21. Ignorance isn't bliss when it comes to health. Please, take responsibility and educate yourself about the band BEFORE you leap headfirst into surgery.

Lapband removed after 11 yrs - caused Heart problems

Oh I agree, it's possible with the newer bands as well. It's all based on your anatomy, the way the way the vagus nerve runs and how sensitive it is, and how tight the band is. But it's pretty rare with the newer larger bands because they don't put the same pressure on the vagus nerve, whereas with the 4cc bands it's (scarily) more common and one of the reason they're not allowed to be used in the US or UK anymore.

Lapband removed after 11 yrs - caused Heart problems

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, this is one of the many problems linked to the small 4cc bands and why both the US and UK refuse to use them. What angers me is so many in Mexico are still using the 4cc band to cut costs- despite the dangers like this. Dr. Kuri being one of the worst offenders, even lying to people telling them the 4cc bands are better. It's truly despicable in my opinion. Best wishes and thanks for sharing your story as a warning to others.

Should I skip the next fill?

Most of us can eat more than a cup of food, that's why we're supposed to measure our portions. It's our job to stop eating after a cup not the band's job to force us. Have a look at this link, I think it will help you understand: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Should I skip the next fill?

Let your doctor help you decide if you need a fill or not, but remember the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. So, don't gauge whether or not you need a fill based on what or how much you can eat. Can you go at least 4 hours after a cup or less of food without hunger? If yes, you probably don't need a fill. If no, then you might need a small one. Talk to your doctor. Best wishes
