If You Had The Choice - Would You Do It Again?
HadToDoIt40 replied to Babysteppin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 4 months out and still asking myself that question. When I look at my before surgery pictures, I think that I would still have it, but it's a constant battle to get used to this new life at this point. I love the weightloss and am hoping for the health benefits soon (lower blood pressure) but constantly trying to figure out what I CAN eat is hard sometimes. I found that I can not tolerate alot of foods so far and I have TRIED - so I stick to mostly the same thing. This is the part I find most difficult.. I love variety and different types of food and so far, my sleeve is NOT having it. These struggles make me miss my old stomach --- but I am hoping the further out I get, things will change. Maybe I am not the best person to respond because I am still SO MUCH of a work in progess but felt I would give my two cents. Good luck with whaever you decide! -
Not quite ready for the gym... I have been walking, exercising in the pool and using my treadmill but now I am looking for something else. I am BORED! What low -med intensity videos do you use?

At Home Exercise Ideas?
HadToDoIt40 replied to HadToDoIt40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the suggestions. Gonna try yoga and the WII fit and see if that will help break up the monotony! -
It's been a while... I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago and have not had PMS symptoms in nearly a year. But just this week my breasts have been so tender...even THINKING about them hurts! I am also bloated, retaining Water and have back pain. Sound familiar ladies? Anyway, I wondered if the surgery may have somehow triggered these symptoms to return?

What If People Treat Me Better As A Thin Person? It Would Make Me So Angry!
HadToDoIt40 replied to lunabella007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even with just a 45 lb loss, people thatI really had no interests in, are now going out of their way to interact with me. I have always been a confident, strong-minded (and strong-willed..LOL!) person and that has not changed. I did not have issues wih self esteem. Prior to surgery, people have told me that I "command attention when I walk into a room." I am still the same person... The only thing that has changed is my looks. Post surgery I am a bit more self-conscious because I feel like I am on stage with all of the attention and because I feel like I am in the ugly duckling stage. My "curves" have all shifted and I don't have the same shape as before. Still trying to adjust to my new body. Anyway... People are shallow. Bottom line. -

Lost My Taste For Sweets?
HadToDoIt40 replied to sarahcc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the total opposite happen to me. I was not a sweets person AT ALL prior to surgery. Now I CRAVE sweets! They seem to be the only thing that I can tolerate. I hope it passes.... -

3 Weeks Post Op Yesterday - Er Visit
HadToDoIt40 replied to HadToDoIt40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks post op now - I had what is called a HIDA scan that tests the function of my gallbladder and it showed that my gallbladder is functioning fine. Completely normal. However, the discomfort is still there. Since the HIDA scan / Ultrasound have come out normal. The Doctor has ruled out my gallbladder and thinks the pain may be be Fluid that has collected in that area and needs to just slowly seep away.... I am not sure what to do from here except for take the pain and wait. I can't even really call it pain anymore, it is more of discomfort..... The pain is nothing like the day I went to the ER. Hope this helps... -
3 Weeks Post Op Yesterday - Er Visit
HadToDoIt40 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op and about 5 days ago I started having severe pain in stomach on the right side. Then backpain on the same side. When I would try to bend over the pain was so bad, it took my breath away. yesterday I became nauseous, was very lethargic and had no appetite. I couldn't sit or stand without pain. It hurt to breath. Yesterday my intake was a half bottle of Water, a half of teaspoon of cream of wheat and 1 tblspoon of tuna. I am able to usually get in all of my Protein and at least 4 bottles of water... anyway. I finally went to the ER last night and got home this morning. ER diagnosis was acute pancreatis. ER doctor says my pancreas appears swollen and "aggravated" and that is very possible it resulted from the VSG surgery. Hopefully, this goes away soon. I am so tired of doing NOTHING! I can't walk or get any type of exercise in during these precious weeks! Oh well, my health comes first. Just thought I would check in.... -
Congrats Cherry! Your surgery was one day after mine....can't wait to be where you are!

I am a little over 5 weeks post op. In the past week and a half, I have thrown up at least 6 times. I threw up just this morning when I tried to eat half of an egg mcmuffin (no muffin) I tried to eat just half of the egg, cheese and ham. Yesterday, I was on liquids only. I threw up about .5 ounces of boiled cod. I once took two bites of watermelon and threw up right away. I tried to eat 1 oz of deli roasted sliced chicken and threw that up. I realize now that a few times it may have been overeating but now I am afraid to eat food. I have transitioned back to Soups and shakes only. This weekend I ate no actual Protein outside of shakes because I just couldnt keep anything down. Feeling very down and discouraged. I am hoping this is not how it is going to be from now on. Hungry but can't eat. Life just doesn't seem to be as simple as it used to be.....

NUT sample meal is: Breakfast - 3 to 5 oz of hot cocoa with skim milk lunch - 3 to 5 oz of fat free cream Soup dinner - 3 to 5 oz fat free cream soup Yesterday I had a Protein shake for breakfast and followed the sample for lunch and dinner. Problem is even after the 5 oz of soup I am still hungry. I also split one Protein Shake after lunch and after dinner. With the soup I eat and Protein shakes I had approx 550 calories. How many calories should I be consuming at this point? I am still hungry and shaky throughout the day but dont want to overeat.

I Dont Feel Any Different
HadToDoIt40 replied to neeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is exactly the way I felt! The first couple days after being discharged I wondered if I had even been sleeved LOL! It's definitely a physical and mental process. I am a little over 4 weeks out and still figuring out when I am hungry and when I am full. I know when I am OVERFULL because I have thrown up at least six times these last couple of days...but I think I am getting there. Just know you are totally normal and the further out you get... .. you will "feel" your sleeve.... -
Hello, What was your calorie intake, Protein, fat or sugar at this stage?

Exactly One Month Post Op Today....4/2/2012
HadToDoIt40 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What a roller coaster ride these last couple of weeks! I am still learning to "eat" with my new stomach. I am still trying to figure out how not to overeat. I have thrown up three times because it is true... dense Protein (chicken, tuna, fish...any type of meat for me) is so filling and after just a few bites, I am full. I usually don't know I am overfull until I feel like OMBAIP (one more bite and I will puke!) .... I am doing really well with no drinking before or after a meal. Anyway, enough with the rambling. I am down 24 pounds since my actual surgery.... happy about that but I am still VERY MUCH a work in progress. -

Update today. Ultrasound showed no gallstones. I still have slight discomfort, not what I would describe as pain...but just there. I have started walking again with no pain. Will followup with my surgeon and see what he recommends at this point.... -
Higher Bmi - Almost 4 Weeks Post Op - Still No Nsv's :(
HadToDoIt40 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I discovered that I have been down a little lately. While I have lost 23 pounds since since surgery and 30 pound since end of March......I do NOT feel a difference, nor can I "see" a difference. I am still tired and lack energy, my feet still swell. People that see me don't appear to notice a difference either. I am in the same pant/blouse size...albeit my tops are fitting a bit looser than before. Other than that NADA! ZILCH! wah!wah! wah! I did take my measurements and they have all gone down about 1/2 inch each...but I have always been more "solid" than mushy. Do I need to lose a 100 pounds to get an NSV or for it to be noticeable? So discouraging.... however patience has never been my virtue. Sorry for the pity party, but I wondered if any one else has felt like this? -

HadToDoIt40 replied to HadToDoIt40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You're right as far as what the true motivation should be.... the main reason for this surgery for me was for health reasons... to lower my blood pressure, keep me from becoming diabetic and ending up having a stroke like my mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. So far, nothing has changed there either as far as my blood pressure...it was 140/80 at the doc on Friday which is still high for me. my fasting blood sugar was 93 and my feet are still swelling. When I start to see these things change....then I will know without a doubt...all of this has been MORE than worth it -
When Can I Go Swimming? Almost 4 Weeks Post Op

I chose to tell only a few friends about the surgery so most do not know. I haven't seen those friends yet, but for the ones that do know...I don't think they notice a difference yet. That's okay I guess..my hubby says that I seem a little smaller because when he hugs me now he can squeeze his arms around me more. - I guess that is a NSV huh? Oh and I did have to be tacky and use a safety pin to hold my pants up in the waist area yesterday...but the pants in question have always been a bit big in the waist. Hips, legs and calf area fit same as usual. I'll keep trucking along and keep working on that thing called "patience."
