  1. I just told my doctor that I wanted to have lap band and need the referral to the surgeon. Remember the doctor works for YOU. They don't get to make your health care decisions, you do. If your doctor does not agree with the surgery, I would listen to their reasons, if they are valid, think about them. But if it things you already researched and understand, then ask for the referral regardless of the doctors feelings about the band. And if all else fails, change PCPs

    This Really Suxxx

That does suck. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon.
  3. How do you count your total calories for the day? Do you count the food and subtract the calories burned from exercise for the total for the day? Or do you just count the food and not factor in the exercise? Also what range to do you try to aim for? My doctor said 1200. Just wondering what everyone else is doing? I did not think of asking if she wanted it before or after exercise.
  4. My surgeon said to wait 6 weeks before doing any type of abdominal workout. I am itching to get back into the classes I usually do...I have 3 more weeks. So walking is what I am doing.

It is just like having a baby and they say to wait 6 weeks. There is all sorts of healing going on inside. You might feel fine, but your body is not completely done doing its job! My post op directions say 3 weeks. So that is what is happening here! My husband is counting the days

    Lapband And Diabetes

I only just got banded last week, but I am diabetic. (and an RN) Now I have not taken my meds are normal, because I was not eating enough the first two days. But I have been checking my sugars and taking my pills since then. I would not just stop taking them. Just because you had a lap band in, does not help the diabetes. You have to lose weight and change your diet to see if the diabetes goes down to a normal level. I would speak to your regular doctor or the diabetes specialist about this. Highs and Lows are very scary and very dangerous. Please take your sugars multiple times a day. Learn your body. I am also hoping that my diabetes goes away. But I am not going to stop taking my meds until my A1C is perfect and my fasting and post meal sugars are in range also. Good luck!! oh- I have not had a problem taking pills.

    February Bandsters?

So I was supposed to be banded today...and now I am home watching TV and eating some deli meat. CANCELLED!! My husband and I were up at the crack of dawn. Got ready. Got our small kids up and to a friends house. Headed to the hospital. Checked in. In my pretty gown. Stuck 3 times because the nurse could not get the iv started. A bag of fluids in me, antibiotics. Saw the doctor...then the OR nurse came in. Problem with the heating. So the maintaince guys were in there. Once they were done, 18 minutes until we can head in. I guess it takes 18 mins until they have the room ready again. Well then my surgeon comes in...problem can not be fixed. They need a part. Well I live in an isolated area, Juneau AK. So the part has to be flown in from Seattle!! My surgeon wants toreschedule for Friday, which won't work, since my husband has this whole week off and can not change it (needs of the military come first). So she squeezed me in for the first surgery tomorrow, UNLESS the OR is not fixed. Then Wednesday afternoon which now makes me sleeping over!!! So I am not banded, lets hope a better day tomorrow. If something else like this happens I might call the whole thing off! So fingers crossed the part gets here today!!! (we are in the middle of a snow storm too!)

    February Bandsters?

I am getting excited about monday! I have been reading and reading everyone's posts. I almost called off the surgery. I was going back and forth with myself. My skinny husband said he would support anything I decide. I went back to my pro/cons list. I am now 100% feeling great! And monday can't get here fast enough! I was only going to tell my husband, parents, and one friend (who is watching my small children while i am at the hospital). But I decided to tell everyone! i am so surprised all the positive things I have heard! I finally told my daughters yesterday. They are only 3 & 5. But I explained I was having surgery on my belly and that daddy would be the one to help them for a few days while I recovered. I never told them what the surgery is for. But I asked if they had any questions...only question I got was from my 5 y/o..."will you still be able to dance the black eyed peas experience with us?" The things that are important to them! I said of course! After I heal! She was ok with that Good luck to everyone and thank you to all that have been writing their stories. I have enjoyed reading them.

    February Bandsters?

I am Feb 27! It was moved back a week. But I am excited!
  11. I just told my doctor that I needed a referral because this is what I am doing. It is your body, not theirs, so you have the final say (as long as you qualify). If your current doctor will not help, find a new doctor! I am glad you talked to your husband. And that he is supportive. My husband is very skinny and fit man, so I had some struggles talking to him, because he has the opposite problem (he wants to gain weight). But I am so glad I shared my feelings with him. He is 100% behind me, guess thats why I picked him!

  13. Hello my name is Lora Beth! I live in Juneau, AK. I am a stay at home mom. But by trait I am a RN. I have been struggling with my weight since I was 10. But this is my heaviest and I have decided after a year of thinking to have the band placed. I was approved last month but due to a vacation and my husband's schedule (he is active duty military) I am being banded Feb 20. I am scared, excited, and trying to learn more! I am going to blog about my journey. So I would love to have some people join me. I would also love to read some of your journeys! http://lorabethlosesit.blogspot.com/
