    March Bandsters!

Karma88 My Dr told me that he would leave some fluid in the band but not a lot. I don't know if its just me or what but I feel stuffed after a couple bites. I will have to remember to eat dinner b/c I will still feel full from lunch. I wonder if I am suppose to be keeping a food journal for my 2 wk appt? Maybe I will just in case b/c they aren't overly friendly.

    March Bandsters!

On the scales topic, I weighed 3/13. The next day was when I started mushies so I wanted to see if that affected my weight. That day I was Day 5 and I was down 12 pounds. I bought my first smaller size today I actually could wear walmart's pajamas. I bought a size 18-20 (2x) and I haven't been able to wear them forever. Before the surgery, If I stretched really hard I could fit into a 3x.

For Thoses With A Surgery Date.....

I had my surgery on March 9th. I had to be there by 8am and was in the OR at 9:48 am. When I woke up in the recovery room, they told me I had some troubles breathing at the beginning and end of the surgery. They said my lungs hardened like someone who was having an asthma attack. (I don't have asthma or have never been told). I had to stay overnight due to insurance. The nurses on the first shift were really nice and attentive. I can't say so much about the other shifts I am feeling better but still having gas pains and pains when I get up/down/bend. I am on day 2 of mushies. I weighed on the 13th and was down 12 pounds from Friday (-5 days out). I can't burp, can you? lol
  5. I had my surgery on March 9, 2012 with Dr. Carcamo. I can't say that he has been overly nice. He never came to talk to me nor my sister who came with me. He compared me to a momma cow b/c I said I was putting soy milk in my protein shakes. I go for my first appt (after surgery on March 22). The nurses have been friendly but thats it. Nothing extra but just "nice".
  6. Only my immediate family know that I had the surgery (March 9th). I don't like my co-workers (yeah, long story: they would be very critical). One lady did mention that I had lost weight (pre-op diet) and I just told her that I was trying to make "a lifestyle change" and she accepted that. When I go back to work, I will just say I had a hernia repaired (which I did).

    Under The Gown Jitters!

Ugh, when I first got there, I was told I could leave my underwear on. I was grateful b/c my monthly decided to show a few days early. Once I got to the holding area, they told me absolutely nothing. I even explained to all of them about my monthly and they said they would put a pad under me but when I woke up, I had nothing. I even found out afterwards that they in fact put a cath in! I am a modest person and just embarass easily so to find out I had a cath, monthly and nothing under me, oh my!

    Discouraged

You could be toning muscle if you have increased your exercising. Muscle weighs more. My scales didn't move for the first two months but I could tell a difference in my clothes and my energy level. Pretty soon you will see a jump in scales. Just don't give up!

    March Bandsters!

First Dr told me that I would not lose enough weight in 1 yr to be considered a success. He said it would not help with my diabetes nor my high blood pressure. He said I needed to do the sleeve.. Dr #2 said I needed to do the bypass b/c my bmi was above 50 and refused to see me again until I lost weight to get below 50. Dr #3 told me that if I wanted the band to work then it was up to me. He could put the band in and I held the controls. He said success depends on me. Guess which doctor I went with? yup, #3.

    March Bandsters!

Judych: I have confidence in you! I was told that I am too fat for the band, that there was no way this would work on me. I am determined to make it work. IF in 2 yrs and the weight is not off, I can at least say I did everything I was suppose to do and I didn't create the roadblocks for myself. It won't be b/c of me that I fail. Maybe those people are right, I might fail but I am going to give it 110% .. I have been up and down with diets all my life, I have lost weight, gained weight, maintained, gained again. But this weight issue, isn't going to get me! (now ask me in a week and I might be on a low and regret it stage but for now I'm up and going to keep going)

    I'm Hungry....

When does your Dr say you can move on? My dr says Days 1-5 liquids, Day 6-11 mushies and after that regular foods. Your stomach needs time to heal. I know everyone is different but I haven't had the desire to eat more than the liquids.

    March Bandsters!

Ready4achange: Congrats on the success so far! To those not banded yet: You can do this! Don't let anyone tell you different.
  13. Congrats! Sounds like things are going the right direction.

    March Bandsters!

It takes me all day to get 8 oz of protein shake down. Today I have been able to get more fluid in so the swelling must be going down. I still am not hungry!

    New Life Starts Today 3/13/12

Good Luck! You seem to have a good mind set and will do great! My Dr says you will be able to eat whatever you want, just limited amounts. Everything you lose is up to you. You and your body will decide your future. Good Luck!!

For Thoses With A Surgery Date.....

I was banded on March 9th as well! The swelling is starting to go down and it hurts less to move. I have attempted the scales yet but maybe on Friday (1 wk). I am happy with my decision to go with the band. I had so many trying to tell me that the band wasn't for me. I am ready to prove them wrong. Good luck to everyone!!

    March Bandsters!

Dee, the gas-x strips are great for the gas. They are only bad when I get up and move around after a nap. I can lay on my sides but it hurts to trying to get up. Today has been a jello cup and at the most half a tomato soup (those soup at hand things). I'm ready for the swelling to go down and the tenderness to go away.

    March Bandsters!

My sister told me about drinking a warm drink in the mornings. She said especially if you have a lot of sinus drainage. I need to up my water intake since surgery but I feel so full. I've been able to take 1-2 sips but thats it and then I will be full. Guess thats a good thing but thinking I should get more water in.

    March Bandsters!

I had been using GNC brand but ran out so I bought the Body Fortress. It is too sweet for me too so I would add 1 scoop or less to a cup of water. Those already banded: What is your liquid diet consist of? I never thought I would be so thankful for chicken broth!. Anyone freezing? I am freezing where as before I was always hot.

    March Bandsters!

Karla, Glad its getting better. Mainly my gas pain is when I get up after a nap or sleeping for night. If this rain would let up then I could go for a walk outside. Thankfully, I haven't been interested in eating regular food so this liquid diet is easy so far. Is the FB page a private page? Or just a new public page? Just wondering, if its a private page I would use my regular account..

    March Bandsters!

I wasn't told to measure anything just to make sure I was sipping all day. I need to make sure I do the Protein Shakes. I'm have a lot of gas pain tonight and thankful for those Gas-X strips!

    March Bandsters!

Congrats! Thats awesome! I think if I tried this 5 yrs ago, I would not have been ready. I am so ready for this now. I have to succeed with this. So far, my bp has been down and I am not to take it unless it gets over 130/90. So even losing what I have to this point has been a great success for my body. Now to get off the other meds so I can be healthy for my kids.

    March Bandsters!

Hi, I am finally home. I had to stay overnight. Guess I had some complications in the OR with anesthia(?) my lungs hardnened up twice. They said it would be similar to someone that has asthma attacks. They hit my voice box with the tube so my voice is scratchy. Everything else went good. I have 4 incisions. I return for my follow up on March 22.
