    Sister Stopped By!

Girl, good for you!!! I feel your excitement and it is super exciting! So many positive exciting moments like these are just beginning for you! I've been freaking excited since I was sleeved. Of course you will have moments, but use these OMG moments to fuel past those. Congratulations!

    New Things

If you don't know what you are consuming...write everything down! Remember, we all have food issues and head hunger is the hardest part to over come. Just remember to make the healthiest nutrient rich choices at every step. Also, if you get your Protein in, it helps with the 'hunger' factor. Write everything that goes in your mouth down on a piece of paper and keep track, if that is what you need. However, 3 weeks out is great, but you should still be in the liquid or mushy phase. There are lots of changes to come. Just keep focused and make smart healthy choices. One Love.

    22 Days Post Op

Right On! Good for you. I love my sleeve. You are doing great thus far. Keep it up. Your life is already changing for the healthy positive. Just remember to make good healthy choices in everything and at every step. The journey is before you and it does take some 'getting used to." You've got a cheering section here though. One Love.

    Honesty

I think everyone will lose some weight, as there is only so much you can fit in your gullet after surgery, how much is up to each individual. You have to alter your ways and incorporate a healthy diet and a healthy life style. The sleeve is a tool that assist you in the fact that the hunger generating hormone area of your stomach is removed, so for the majority of people this is severely altered. Head hunger and issues with food and socialization around food, which often translates to physical hunger is still there. A person that changes their diet to a healthy nutrient rich diet and consumes lower calories will lose weight. A person that does not change their diet and continues to consume a high fat, processed food, sugar laden, high calorie diet and will not lose weight. You've only so much space in your stomach after being sleeved. How you chose to fill your gullet, with crap or with healthy nutrient rich choices, will make all the difference. Additionally if you are sleeved, but live a sedentary lifestyle along with a continued diet of crap, it will be much more difficult to lose weight and keep it off. The sleeve is a POWERFUL tool to assist in getting yourself to a healthy weight. Each person has the power to control their weight destiny, it is all in the choices we make. We all have come to the point of considering or getting the surgery. What you do after and how you live your life, determines if you will be successful with your weight loss and keeping it off. And, success is measured individually also. (Of course there are medical conditions to consider for some, but...) That is my two cents. One Love.
  6. Hello! Well, I don't blog as much as I should or would like to. Life is just super busy and super wonderful! I am finally under 200 lbs (this morning the scale said 197!!!). I know this sounds like a lot to many, but I am thrilled. I haven't weighed under 200 for my entire adult life. Starting out at my heaviest at 270...it is a HUMONGOUS change! I really feel great. I have tons of energy. I used to say I wasn't a night person, but...I just might be now. Before VSG, I could go to bed at 8pm and wanted to. Nowadays, I look at the clock and can't believe it is already 11pm and I'm still up and going! I do try to get to bed by 11-11:30pm though. I do like my sleep and need it for health and to rest, due to the great workouts I've been doing. I work out 6-7 days a week. I do something different most every day. Here is a sample of what I have planned for this week's workouts: Monday (today): 1 hr Spinning class and 1 hr Yoga class, after spinning Tuesday: 1 hr Medicine Ball workout; 1 hr power walk Wednesday: 1 hr Outdoor Bootcamp Thursday: either 1 hr Spinning class or 1 hr Bootcamp indoor Friday: 1 hr Spinning class (early morning); 90 min Yoga (lunch) Saturday: Bicycle Ride - 25miles Sunday: Hiking - 8-10 miles I've been following a really healthy plant based diet, 90% of the time, along with doing some yummy green juicing. The other 10% of my diet has included some dairy (greek yogurt and some cheese) and some seafood and a bit of chicken (I just can't turn down a few bites of my husband's amazing jerk chicken). The weight is coming off, whoop whoop, but it has slowed. Now 8 months post-op, I definitely can eat more now than I have been post-op. So, I do have to watch most everything I put in my mouth. I just eat real healthy - no or very minimal processed food, dairy, animal products. In retrospect, it is amazing how much food I used to eat. More amazing is how little food I eat now, need to survive and to loose weight. I have a follow-up appt in September with my doc. At that point I will post before and after photos. Live is GOOD! One Love.

    Frustration With Coordinator

Definitely! I had issues with my coordinator also. I contacted my surgeon and told him. Heck, he needed to know. I can tell you my coordinator up'd her game after that. And, my surgeon asked to be copied on all communications. Hee Hee.

    Work, Haters And Motivators

Good for you and good come back. It is absolutely none of her business. This is why I didn't and haven't told anyone that I work with and only 3-4 people closest to me know I have been sleeved. It is your business, no one else's.

    My New Life

I think this is common for all of us sleevers. I've found myself pushing my food addiction on other and wanting to feed everyone else...heck, if I can't eat, I want someone to eat!! Crazy? Yes, I know. My husband at one point told me..."You have to stop. I can't eat for two or I will be huge!" That is when I realized what I was doing. And, I want people to eat healthy food (I've been pushing healthy food), not junk. More words of wisdom from the hubby..."You can't push your new ways on everyone and you can't push people to eat the way you do", i.e., a healthy plant-based diet. My comment is...well, I can try. :-) There is so much more attention we need to pay to ourselves to overcome the emotional issues we all have with food and relationships with food, friends and family. I know I'm still working on it. I talk with my sister as I can trust her with even my weirdest, most embarrasing thoughts and issues. It helps tremendously. Find someone to talk to. A professional is likely best, but I think if you have anyone that you can open up to is helpful. I also think we have to allow ourselves to open the door to our 'new life' and accept it and relish in it. Be proud of yourself. Treat yourself well. New healthy habits I'm pretty sure breed new healthy lives.

6 Weeks And 2 Days Out!

Yeah! Good for you. I hear you sister! It's the best thing I've ever done for myself also. You are doing GREAT! Don't be surprised though if you do have some rough spots, but then again you might not. I've had some throwing up issues, when I've gone just beyond what my sleeve can handle. It's not fun, but it is a real good checks & balance system on what not to do. Congratulations!

Never Full Until It's Too Late...

Don't snack, but have 4-6 small meals...1/4 cup or 1/2 cup at a time and stop. Protein first (as it will help to stop hunger), then veg and fruit. Cheese, trail mix, and things like that are very high calorie and fat. Stay away from empty calories, like any thing with white flour, white rice, sugar, limit cheese and dairy, etc.

    Conflicting Futures....

Good for you! Follow your passion. Girl, I'm right there with you. I've been thinking about going back to school for a nutrition/dietician. I actually have a career counseling appointment in two weeks. I'm completely on the plant-based diet path and would love to guide/share and coach people along that same path to optimal health. I've also gone to culinary school, but also interested in getting raw chef certification. I wish you the best...go for it!!!

    How Painful Was The Surgery?

Every person has different pain threshholds and different types of pain. Gas pains are common. I took pain meds for one day. The hardest part or most painful part for me after surgery, if I remember this correctly, was laying down flat (this took a couple weeks) and coughing because it jars the abdominal area (hold a pillow to your tummy, it helps tremendously).

    Day 3 Post Op

Yep, that is not surprising. You just had major surgery. They had me up and walking the next day, but that is Stanford's policy and you need to force yourself to move around. My awesome, and very proactive nurse, didn't take no for an answer. You want to get your system circulating and avoid blood clots. So...., stir up some gumption and get moving. Not easy, but it is better for you in the long run. Get as much liquids in as you can...is little sips of course. Try warm and/or cold, whatever works the best for you.
  15. Well...you might like them, but...hot dogs are not considered any where near good nutrition! I know it is "American" to eat hot dogs and sugar and white flour/bread, but...this is also why Americans are so obese! My suggestion is to select nutritious food that fuels your body in the most effective way. Go with a mostly plant-based diet! Don't be over concerned with not being able to eat unhealthy food, concentrate on eating a diet full of nutrient rich plant-based foods. Even though you've been sleeved, you can still eat junk food and you can gain weight. I think a better option is to take advantage of your awesome tool and fuel yourself with good nutrition. That's my two cents.
  16. Therapy! Therapy! Therapy! Get some nutrition and psych therapy! Asking and getting help shows strength. You can't do it on your own, you just can't. Also...Take up yoga and meditation. Find your core and your strength. Get out there and work out, every day! Get your frustrations out - take a boxing or kick boxing class. It works! Secondly..., MOVE ON! Don't dwell on the past. You didn't take action on the harassment then, let it go! Sadly schmucks like you've encountered get away with that crap all the time. I know it is a huge battle to fight, but...at this point you have to let it go and move on for your personal well being. Don't let crap like that hold you down or back. You've accomplished soooo very much! Get rid of the negative and focus on the positive and how strong you are! You are so very worth it to the be the best you can be. Concentrate and put your energy to YOU. One Love.
  17. Hello All. Well, my weight loss is slowing down. However, I still feel like I'm losing and my clothes feel like I'm losing. I'm working out daily. Not eating much. I have to get back to the basic of eating protein first and then veg and fruit. I really think my body is just adjusting and trying to hold on to weight. Other than the lb numbers, I am down from a size 20, often times it was a 22, now to a solid size 14 jean!!! Pretty darn awesome, I think! I still have over 50lbs to get to my idea weight of 145 or 150. It's crazy to think of what I will look like at that weight as I am loving how I look now and how i feel. One Love.

    Never Ending Period!

Well... I hadn't had a period in 6-7 months prior to being sleeved. My doc and I were fairly certain that I was done and in menopause (I turn 50 in August!). Since being sleeved, I've had 4-5 periods and super heavy ones, more so than I've ever had. Crazy right!?!

    First Business Trip Post-Op...ugh

No matter where you are, on a plane, hotel, conference location, you still have to watch calories and the health aspect of what you eat. And, be careful because if you over eat, you will throw-up. Siting in a conference or involved in a work environment and belching and needing to throw up is not a good scenario to be in. Make the most healthy, fresh, whole food, protein-rich choices available. Soups are always a good choice, tuna salad, Beans and legume salads, grilled tofu or chicken, etc., just like you are doing. If you are not throwing up or uncomfortable, you likely have not over eaten. Relax. Enjoy all other aspects of the conference and get involved in something else rather than the food aspect. Make that secondary at best. Think positive. All is good. That's my suggestion.

    Libido After Vsg

My husband was afraid to touch me at first, said he didn't want to bust a stitch or create any leaks (not sure exactly what he was envisioning but he was rather apprehensive)! We waited about 2 months - which seemed like forever. When in doubt...be creative. :-)

    Losing My Comfort....

Well, being morbidly obese and a smoker is a double health risk whammy! You can do it! I wish you the best in your challenges. I was a former smoker and now a vigilante against smoking. Just a whiff of cigarettes or cigarette smoke makes me want to hurl. You are on your way to more beautiful skin, cleaner lungs, enhanced taste buds, no more smelly, nasty gross clothing and breath, and a longer healthier life. Congratulations! One Love.
