January sleevers how are you doing?
libaba replied to time4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 1/26/11 and have lost 19 lbs so far.........haven't hit the dreaded 3 wk stall yet. However, I'm also still on full liquids at least through next Tuesday. Then pureeds & then mushies. I don't expect to be eating regular food until I'm at least a month out. -
How does my full liquid diet look?
libaba replied to DougNichols's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3/4 cup servings? that seems like a lot to me. i was sleeved on 1/26 and there is no way I could get that much soup in. here's my typical day: 6:30am - 1 cup decaf coffee 8:00am - Atkins Advantage Mocha Latte (protein shake) 16oz Water 10:00am - S/F Jello 16oz water 12:00pm - either cottage cheese/fruit cup or Greek yogurt 16oz water 2:30pm - Syntrax nectar Protein drink - Fuzzy Navel or Twisted Cherry 8oz water 5:30pm - S/F pudding 8oz water 7:00pm - 1/2 cup Amy's black bean soup thinned & pureed w/chicken broth 8oz water 9:00pm - protein hot chocolate (some nights - not every night) -
I am 13 days post op and the only real pain I remember was in my left shoulder due to gas. That's really the only thing that bothered me much. I was lucky and had no nausea. The pain meds knocked me out most of the time. So I was in & out of sleep. Had to stay 2 nights in the hospital and then could not wait to get my IV out and go home. I still had a drain. I slept much better at home though, and never had to take any more pain meds after returning home. A little liquid Tylenol a couple of times, but that was it. I vaguely remember my throat being a little sore, but not bad at all.

When to go back to work?
libaba replied to DragonFlyFree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery last Wednesday 1/26 and I'm back at work today! Just depends on your own personal experience I think, but I have had no complications and felt well enough. Doctor told me yesterday when he removed my drain that I was fine to return........so here I am! -

libaba replied to AChristian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well i'm 7 days out and no BM for me either, and no pre-op laxative. so i think i will try the miralax myself! -
My doctor was taking a break from the seminars in early January so I scheduled an appt for the 21st. Did a 2 day pre-op liquid diet and had surgery on 1/26/11! Got my drain out this morning and I'm going back to work tomorrow!

I'm having my surgery in 2 days! I'm scared too, but I'm so ready to get started on this journey! I should have had this done 10-15 years ago! -

Being told I will fail with VSG
libaba replied to hcwiu's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Does anyone know what the statistics are on the failure rate of RNY v VSG? I'm just curious. I talked to my friend in Indiana last night and she had RNY in October. Her surgeon barely even presented VSG as an option, and certainly talked up the RNY. I have not been to my surgeon yet - I go next Tuesday. All the people that I know personally that have had WLS have had RNY's, but I prefer the VSG - at least according to everything that I have read so far. -
Houston Texas Vertical Sleeves.
libaba replied to RFontenot4's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please keep me in mind if y'all get a Houston support group started. I'm not yet sleeved, but plan to be soon. Appt with Dr Spivak on 1/18. I'm in Pearland. -
I'm new to the boards here, and have not had my initial consult with the surgeon yet. I'm scheduled to go in on 1/18 and I will be cash pay as our insurance has an exclusion for any WLS. I want to have surgery ASAP, but I have some fears. I'm just this week trying to quit smoking. Started Chantix last week and Friday is my full on quit date. I have smoked for 30 yrs. I know I have to give it up for my health, and for surgery but I'm really scared about giving up cigarettes, alcohol and most food in a short period of time. anyone else out there that had to quit prior to surgery?

quitting smoking prior to surgery?
libaba replied to libaba's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well thanks for the replies! I'm doing pretty good so far, but it's only been a few days. I have not been truly tested yet. I pray that I can stick with it. It is such a lifestyle change though! I don't think I realized how much of my day was planned around my need to smoke! Coffee on the patio in the moring while taking the dog out, smoke breaks at work with my co-worker/friend, drinks out on the patio in the evening with my hubby - that's when we really talk. I'm missing all of that I think more than the cigs! I just somehow have to come up with new habits. It's never easy from what I understand!
