The Fat Trap: Is Vsg An Escape?

Thanks for posting this, I have never heard of this article either. I have struggled with my weight since childhood and always did diets with my mom, while she took water pills. I also wanted to know what was wrong with me and why I couldn't lose weight like a normal person. Hoping I had hypothyroidism or something as well. Like I needed a logical explanation! You would think that after the 4th time doing weight watchers, I would know it doesn't work for me, but I still signed up that 5th time. smh. So happy to be sleeved!

Week 2 - Weigh In And Musings

Good job on the weight loss! My scale keeps calling me like c'mon you know you want to weigh in. I'm waiting until tomorrow. I bought some Nectar yesterday because the protein shakes in milk kept making me nauseous. I can't wait until next Thursday. Mushies!!!
  3. Thanks, that's a good idea. I will try thinning them out with milk. Adds more protein for a bonus
  4. Congrats! I too am with Kaiser and had a 38 bmi at the time. I went to Mexico 11 days ago. I didn't tell my pcp but will when I have him run my blood work after two months. I was very dissatisfied with them as far as trying to get approved and am going back to bcbs during open season. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  5. I only had nausea the night of my surgery. I just started protein shakes (10 days post-op) yesterday and getting those down has made me VERY nauseous.

    Week 1 - Weigh In

Yes! That was some of the best milk I've ever tasted lol. So glad my sleeve accepted it!
  8. I'm here!!! I will be sleeved tomorrow by Dr. Kelly. We arrived at the San Diego airport around 12 and the minute I turned on my phone Ana called to see where we were. She picked us up, Cecilia, Dr. Kelly's wife drove us around San Diego for some quick sight seeing. We checked into the hospital and while we were waiting in the lobby we met Dr. Kelly and he asked if I had any more questions. I asked him if he uses a drain tube (I got kinda freaked out reading about them on here). He doesn't. And I told him I'm the weirdo that wants a pic of my stomach. He remembered and then showed me that he had a picture of the remains of a stomach as the screensaver on his phone lol! We were taken to my room, and Ana told us about places we can go for some food (for my friend). We walked about 3 blocks down to the beach. It was beautiful. There is also a 7-eleven there. We ended up eating at a restaurant across the street from the hospital. I asked for drained soup, but the broth had so much fat swimming on top of it I didn't eat it. I'm not really hungry, I'm just making sure I drink enough water. I'm so excited, my surgery is scheduled for 10 am tomorrow. I like it here, felt totally safe and so far every one is great!

Lol yes this was a decision that took a lot of thought. I was like look there are stop signs. Look there's a crosswalk. It actually wasn't that bad. Once the cars saw that you were trying to cross they stopped. I had to shuffle across because I didn't want to hold up traffic. I told my friend I survived surgery I can't die in Mexico crossing the street! Sent from my iPhone using VST
  12. Sorry you had to go through that. She sounds ignorant and uninformed. It's sad that doctors take the oath "do no harm" yet refuse to treat you if you have surgery by someone they don't know. I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly last Wednesday. He is an excellent surgeon! I hope you find a supportive PCP that is interested in your overall well being and health.
  13. Mexico was great! I was sleeved by Dr. Ramos Kelly a week ago today. I did alot of research on these and other boards and websites. If you need a defense for your husband, tell him that the surgeons in Mexico have been doing bariatric surgery longer than the ones in the US, specifically the sleeve. The surgeons in Mexico have done thousands, while the "experienced" ones here have done a few hundred. I'm not knocking US surgeons, I was just VERY confident in my choice of surgeon. Also there are several youtube videos of people that went to Mexico. Everyone raves about how the hospital care is better in Mexico. That was my first hospital stay so I really can't compare it, but I was pleased. I had no pain, just a little nausea. The morning after I just kept telling my friend I can't believe this is an outpatient surgery in the states. In choosing your surgeon, just make sure you look at experience and complication rates. Either way, you have to feel comfortable with your choice. It's already stressful enough going through the surgery, you at least want to be confident that you chose an experienced one. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Tujuana Violence

I stayed at the Lucerna hotel. Yes I was given antibiotics, pain meds, and acid reducer omeprazole. I didnt really need the pain meds. I took one before my flight just in case. The stuff I drank was clear. It tasted like nasty cough syrup. It wasn't bad going down but the taste lingered in my mouth. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Ok from what I've read Trish is great and will take you everywhere. I left Saturday morning at 6 am. We were actually lucky we got thru in 45 minutes. Ana said on the weekends it could take up to 3 hours. It was cool looking at all the street vendors (I wanted a burrito soooo bad) and stores right on the border that will bring your merchandise while you wait in line. The guy scanned our passports and looked at our faces to make sure it was us. Then we went on to the airport. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Tujuana Violence

I just got back from Tijuana Saturday. I didn't witness any type of violence or border violence. I felt very safe while I was there the whole time. Once at the hotel, my friend and I walked around and went to Starbucks and a pharmacy. It was just like any other Starbucks I've been to. Which surgeon are you using?
  19. A tool is anything that helps you. The smaller stomach will help you lose weight, but it is not a magic bullet like you will wake up skinny after your surgery. You still have to do the work (eat right and exercise) but it just makes it physically easier for you to do. I've observed skinny people eat and I would think to myself, man I wish I could be satisfied with only eating half a sandwich for lunch. Now that I am sleeved, one day I will be able to

    Diarrhea

Yeah I have them too. I'm 6 days post-op. I didn't start getting them until I got home from Mexico. I am thinking the antibiotic I'm taking is the suspect. I'm pretty grossed out because I'm not eating any food yet still eliminating gunk. Yuck!

    Greetings From Tijuana!

Well I'm almost 6 feet tall, I think that's why mine is so long. And it would take A LOT of food to pack it LOL!
