Six Years Later....loving My Lap Band
SueQueRN replied to ChrisC's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Very cool - Going to be a long road - but I am so happy to hear how much you enjoy it. I am 49 years old and really looking forward to the whole sitting comfortable in an airline seat thing! I can't look at someone in the eye when I go to sit next to them...I just know they are cursing their misfortune! -
My doc is a skinny twig - but a good guy and very supportive. He is also blunt - I like that. Glad to hear you are focused. Do you know anyone else who has had it done. Both of my step-daughters have done it and both have had some success but are even more successful at cheating the band. Their problem is sweets - mine is volume. Sweets seem to go down very easy so one keeps drinking her mocha caramal cappacinos with extra carmel and the otther her ice cream and candy (even for breakfast) I hope I have learning from their mistakes! Plus I really have the problem of wanting the biggest steak and the biggest potato and yes to appetizer thank you. The biggest eye opener to me is learning to eat my Protein first . I have always always eaten all the veggies first. Surprise - the protein really does fill you up! Sue

Sounds great, Jason. Glad you are a nurse and could withstand your PCP's assault on surgery. I was a bit put off when I told my doc I wanted it and he about ran to his computer to print up a surgeon's name for me. Did he just call me fat? All-in-all it was a relief and things went smoothly. Glad I didn't have to do the 3 month diet. I am a great dieter - its once I am off I get into trouble. Plus after 3 months my BMI would have been too low. I was concerned that they would then refuse me! Sue "the former night shift nurse whose husband didn't understand so now she is a day shift nurse" Sedalia, MO

With ya - makes me wonder is the burping wonder I used to work with had a band done!
-
Oh yes - changing habits is hard. Both of my step-daughters had this before me (mine was just 12/30/11) and both of them quickly learned how to cheat the band rather then use it. Like it was a puzzle put there just to be figured out. No worries, girl. Start by eating that protein! It's amazing how much that helps. After that you might not have room for all the bad stuff. I figure it I eat what I am supposed to and still have room for junk then I am not restricted enough. Already I think my restriction is less so I am looking forward to first fill!

Sounds like starting from day one again - keep on keeping on!

Theme Park Thrill Rides and the Lap Band
SueQueRN replied to hunkin702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to hear! Going to disney world in a few weeks!! -
Was just banded Dec 30th. Supposed to be on 2 weeks of full liquids. Its a good learning curve in not over filling my belly - luckily when I do the fluid emptys in minutes...if I did that with solids I can't imagine how unbareble that would be!

I had bad vomiting after a surpery - since then I tell the anesthsia doc and get zofran during surgery...and as someone who recovers people after surgery - few vomit. You just gotta not rush the whole oral intake thig (you will be soooo parched) Good luck...I just had mine done Dec 30th! -
Just being post-op is also going to zap you - get all the sleep your body wants!
-
Good luck to you too! I just had mine on Dec 30th - so far so good. It's a learning curve - remember no GULPs of fluid!
-
I was banded Dec 30th 2011. My BMI was right at 35 I believe (being tall helps) Acutally wouldn't have bothered if if werent for health issues - but it has already helped. And, lets face it, I am looking forward to comfortable plane rides and fitting in roller coasters...not to mention cute clothes.
-
Amee - had mine done in Columbia too - just Dec 30th by Dr Pitt. The staff couldn't say enough nice things about him - and they don't have to do that! Everything went well and was headed home in about 6 1/2 hours after arrival. I am sore and learning to sip. Too much of a gulp is a b***h! Going to be the perfect thing for me though - I am very relieved!

SueQueRN replied to Blue Pit country's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my surgery Dec 30th. Went great. Now just getting used to drinking very very small amounts at a time. Prepare to be sore but it isnt too bad. If you tske too big of a sip wait a few minutes and the pain will go away...its a learning curve
