  1. WOW! When I was able to start mushies, I couldn't even get down a whole poached egg! How far out from surgery were you guys when you could get down a half cup at one sitting? I am 9 weeks out from surgery and I cannot eat that much at one sitting. Living the dream, Laura
  2. It is my understanding that liquids go through the sleeve fairly quickly so you can drink more than 4 oz at a time. Food stays in the sleeve longer and so if your doc says 4 oz...you better stick to 4 oz. Your sleeve will let you know if you have 1 bite too many. When I was 2 weeks out I was on liquids anyway and I drank all I wanted (could stand!) to make sure I got the protein and fluids in. Living the dream!, Laura
  3. Had a wonderful time at a street fair yesterday but didn't get in hardly any protein all day. Was low on water too. Today I feel like my brain is in jello. I feel very dopey and slow. Could this be from the lack of protein and lowered fluids yesterday? Please let me know... Thanks! Laura
  4. I hope this isn't TMI but I am concerned about it...I used to be the typical lady who had to use the restroom quite frequently. Since my surgery, I noticed that my bladder has been like cast iron. I only void 2 or 3 times a day. I am getting in at least 40 to 60 oz of water and other fluids every day. Sometimes I feel thirsty and sometimes not. I have had kidney infections in the past and they never could figure out why. I don't want to hurt my self but am actually enjoying not having to take all those bathroom breaks. Any thoughts?? Thank you so much!!, Laura
  5. I don't have any word of wisdom for you but I do want to empathize with you. Sounds like you have had a bit more than your share of troubles. I hope all gets straightened out soon. HUGS, Laura
  6. Thank you everyone...I too appreciate the freedom of not being tethered to the ladies room. Have a wonderful 4th of July! Laura
  7. From what I have read here...this is normal and you are definitely going to be okay. I am almost 9 weeks out and I hit that rotten stall right on time. Nothing for two weeks! Then it started to move again. I have read here that alot of folks watch their carbs (>30 per day) Some folks may say you are not eating enough calories and your body is fighting you. Everyone is different. I have had the grumpy blues recently and didn't realize that that is also a "side effect" of the sleeve. All the negative stuff that we are dealing with at the beginning will get better in time. You just had major surgery and shocked your body into the next universe. Give it some time to recover. You will do fine. I am so happy that your pants are looser! During the first week, I lost so much weight really fast...like 9 pounds in 1 week. I was thinking that this would be a breeze and the weight would continue to come off like that. WRONG! I lose anywhere from 5 pounds to no pounds each week. I only weigh once a week. Fluctuations make me crazy. And when the scale doesn't budge, my clothes seem to be a bit more comfy than they were. It is going to happen...just give yourself and your new tummy some time to adjust... Lots of hugs! Laura
  8. HOORAY!!! So happy for you! You are doing great! Laura
  9. Right on!! I am so happy for you! I made it to Onderland recently and it is a great place to be. Keep up the good work!
  10. 60 lbs in 5 months!!?? You are AMAZING!!! Maybe they don't comment because they are afraid to admit that it was a good idea for you..... You are doing great! Hooray for you!

    Straw or No Straw?

I was told no straw and found that I did in fact take in more air with the straw. I think it can be a matter of what works best for you. I gave up the straw for comfort reasons. Laura
  12. Hey...yesterday was my 8 week surgiversary! I feel great and love that my pants are too big! Keep up the good work! We WILL be successful! Living the dream, Laura

    SOOOO Moody........

I totally get this. In class yesterday, my instructor took me aside and asked me if everything was okay? She said I had seemed really angry the last few weeks. I was floored! I asked two of my classmates who are also my friends, if they had noticed this as well. They both agreed. Floored again. And hubby concurred with them when I asked him later. What a relief to read that this is normal after surgery. I am 8 weeks out and doing fine with the eating plan and exercise and all. I didn't even realize that I was looking/acting grumpy. Looking forward to this clearing up! Laura

    Complicatons?

I would definitely do it again. WIsh I had done it sooner. All the pain and fatigue and jaundice I suffered was totally worth it. I had my sleeve and then 6 days later was in the ER for pain and major jaundice. Then 3 days later I was back in the hosp. to have the gall bladder popped out. 2 major surgeries in less than 2 weeks was pretty hard on my body and my mind but it was all temporary. I feel great now and am so happy to be in control of what and how much I eat. Well, my tiny tummy is actually in control. It tells me when to stop and if I don't listen to it...I wish I had! Only overate once in 7 weeks. Once was enough!! So an unqualified YES...I would do it again! Laura

    40 POUNDS GONE!!!!

RIGHT ON!!!!! So happy for you. I have the same wonderings...am I doing things right, should I eat more/less, drink more/less and on and on. Yet that weekly date with the scale tells me I am doing something right...loving my sleeve and living the dream!

    FOR THE WIN!!!

Dance my friend...you have earned it!!
  18. Does anyone use protein bars? I ate these before surgery and am wondering if they are acceptable in ya"ll opinion. I am getting the majority of my protein from protein drinks as I just cannot eat enough actual food to get in enough. I was thinking that maybe the Think Thin bars in very small pieces could be mushed in my mouth enough to not cause a problem. I am sure I couldn't eat one in a single sitting but maybe thru the whole day... Thanks, Laura
  19. I was sleeved 6 weeks ago. I had heard when I was considering bypass surgery that you cannot drink for 1/2 hour after you eat. Is this true for sleevers? After I eat, I always want a sip or two of water to "wash it all down". I usually take them but I feel guilty. If we cannot drink for 30 mins after eating, can someone please explain to me why?? Thanks so much! Laura in Onderland

    LADIES ONLY....(Girl question)

AutumnLily, Your signature says "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined" Thoreau That is one of my life changing quotes. I wear it on a handmade bracelet and have it posted on my fridge. Laura
  21. I never feel hungry...ever. Occasionally I feel "empty" in my upper abdomen and I guess that is what others call "hunger". It's not nearly so bad as the old hunger pains I would feel on the rare occasion that I stopped eating long enough to actually get hungry! I am grateful for the advice and comments you all left me. Thanks!!!
  22. Hooray! Celebrate with me! I finally fell through the rabbit hole and got past my almost 3 week stall. I am now officially in ONEDERLAND!!!! I am so happy. I know there will be more challenges and more stalls and more hard work ahead but right now I am doing the happy dance! I wonder how many calories that burns! Laura

    How supportive is/was your spouse

"Is it possible that part of the reason this hurts you so much is because you otherwise don't feel very cherished and supported by your husband on your journey?" I would like to add that I think this is a very important possibility. If you are feeling like your hubby is your adversary instead of the president of your fan club, then that could easily spill over into resentment due to his normal eating behavior. If that is the case, I am so sorry. Yet I hope you can find others who will cheer for you and encourage you in the way that you need it right now. This is a journey to be sure and while we have tons of love and encouragement from our fellow sleevers here...sometimes we have to reach deep down with in ourselves and pat ourselves on the back for the huge positive decision we have made for ourselves. At the end of the day, we are stronger because we have made this decision. We have taken our health, happiness and longevity into our own hands and made a positive step for our selves and our future. All the best to us all!! Laura

    Sleeved 6/1/2011

Congratulations on your weight loss! You are doing great in my opinion. I am 5.5 weeks out and lost 19 lbs. since surgery. It has been 2 weeks since the scale has moved but my clothes are hanging off me. Everyone is different and I think (someone please correct me if I am wrong) that the more weight you have to lose, the faster it comes off at first. Just keep following your plan and you will do great! Laura p.s. I had to stop weighing myself every day because it was making me discouraged. I asked Hubby to hide the scale for me and give it back once a week so I can weigh. I get a little obsessive about what the scale says.
  25. Yippee for you!!! I am so happy for you!
