i am 4 days away from my sleeve surgery and my biggest fear is the pain killers after surgery. Most people say they didn't really need them so I'm counting on that. I have been in recovery for 3 years and my sobriety means the world to me. I already told my doctor I will not be taking any narcotic scripts home from the hospital but I'm scared. Any other recovering sleevers out there?

Smoking After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Marnie85253 replied to mommamea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I smoked for years and quit the day I was sleeved. I just felt like I was already changing my lifestyle so drastically that I might as well. I am 8 weeks out and feel great! I've lost 32 lbs and exercise daily. I still crave cigarettes but have not given in to the cravings. -
I am six days out and experiencing all kinds of strange things. The full clear liquid diet is a challenge even though I don't think I could possibly eat anything other. I watched my family eat lasagna last night and that was tough. My body no longer matches my brain. I decided to give myself a treat and drink a cup of cream of chicken flavor soup instead of just broth, big mistake! I have had explosive diarrhea all day! I think that this surgery is exactly what stubborn thick heads like me need, if I don't follow the rules exactly my body will kick my ass right back into place! I was also able to differentiate between head hunger and real hunger for the first time today in years. Wow, it's amazing how little food we need to survive.

Well I'm 4 days post op and doing well. The pain is only sharp when I get up or sit down but definitely manageable. The food thing is weird! I'm only drinking liquid protein, broth and sugar free jello. It's very strange because when I see other people eat around me I feel like I want a bite but I know it will hurt me if do. So maybe that's how the sleeve surgery works, if you eat anything your not supposed to your body will kick your ass for it! It's very strange to feel mentally hungry but not physically hungry. I guess this will take time to get used to. I'm looking forward to the next phase where I can have yogurt and cottage cheese.

I am checking in with my sleeve community to let you all know that I am 1 day post op and ouch! I'm very uncomfortable, I get why "gas" hurts so bad and my head is doing all the stuff you all told me it would. I am making a choice to completely surrender to this process. Instead of feeling regretful because I don't feel well, I choose to believe in your success stories. Not one of you said you were sorry so my goal for today is to walk, follow direction and continue to have faith! Faith that this will pass and that I will be a strong and healthy woman as a result of the choice I made!

Day 1 After Sleeve Sx
Marnie85253 replied to Marnie85253's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You guys were all right! I'm home from the hospital now and it is getting better with each passing day! It's just sore, not really painful and have spent my day alternating walks with small naps. The weird part is that I feel like I should be eating but I'm not hungry. I guess that's what they refer to as " head hunger". Other than that, all is well! -
Day 1 After Sleeve Sx

Scottsdale Bariatric Center with Dr. Robin Blackstone -
I am having my sleeve surgery on weds Jan 4th and I am so excited! I have struggles with my weight my entire adult life and aim tired of the fight. I have been on every diet under the sun as well as every weight loss medication on the market. Besides fen-fen, which is not off the market, nothing has worked. I live in Scottsdale and am having my surgery done at Scottsdale Bariatrics, Dr. Blackstone was supposed to be my surgeon but scheduling was better for me to go with her associate Dr. Reynoso. I have been attending the support groups and have heard great things about him so I'm sure it will be just fine! I think what I'm struggling with most is the thought that I will no longer be hungry. That is an unfathomable thought! I am going into this process with an open mind, a willingness to follow all directions and patience. I am excited and ready to begin this new and healthy phase of my life! Will keep you all posted as I continue kn this journey.

Bc/bs Insurance For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Marnie85253 replied to GonnaBHotMama's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BCBS and it took me about 8 weeks to get approved. I was also missing weight records from one year but my primary care doc wrote a letter saying that I refused to be weighed and at the time I was " notably overweight ". I attended weight watchers for 8 weeks and had all the other required testing done and got approved! It takes a lot of diligent work but if you keep up with it and follow through it can be done! My surgery is weds. Jan 4th! Good luck! -
Smoking After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I smoke electronic cigarettes and I love them! You still get the nicotine without the harmful toxins. It's just water vapor, no tar, no carcinogens, no stinky smells! When I told the nurse at me pre-op bariatric class she said it was perfectly fine. I'm getting sleeved on weds and I plane on packing plenty of electronic digs for the journey! Good luck to you! -
Am I Over-reacting Or What....
Marnie85253 replied to lml32937's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, I am having my surgery in 5 days and all I could think about after reading your post is how amazing it would be for me to A) only order and eat and appetizer and not obsess about eating every last bite and then finishing it later! I feel like this is a journey of physical change as well as spiritual change. We can't expect others to understand any aspect of where we've been or where we are at any given time. I've spent years feeling invisible in clothing stores that weren't plus size and having thin women try to make suggestions on how I can dress or shoes I should wear to spice up my look. My journey is personal and I will try to find gratitude as I move through it. Hang in there and good luck! Marnie
