  3. Today I did something I haven't been able to for years. I ran. Actually ran TWO MILES, It wasn't fast by any account. In fact- it was more then double the time it took me to run the same distant in high school-28 minutes. I also twice as old. I loved to run in high school. It was my ME time. I felt free and happy when I ran. I was a track and cross country star. Captain, MVP, All County, all conference, all state blah blah blah. I lived to run- I ran 6 days a week over 35 miles a week on average. From 7th grade thru high school, part of college. BUT that was over 25 years ago and I was 17. After college, marriage and three kids, and doubling my high school weight running wasn't so good or happy. I tried to run after my kids and it hurt my knees way too much. I had gain too much weight and it put too much pressure on my knees. There I was too fat to run, without causing more health problems. I was depressed when i got on the treadmill and could only run for a few seconds before my knees hurt, so stopped trying. My kids found this box of running trophes, metals and awards in basement. They wanted to know who's they were. They were very surprised when I told them they were mine. In fact they didn't believe me until they read the engraved awards. So after losing almost 65 pounds, I decided to try it again. Ok I didn't really decide, as in ok I going to go run now. I actually just went up to the track to walk, put on the IndigoGirls and U2 in my iPhone ,and started to move. Music was too up beat to just walk so i started to run, and started my timer for a baseline. I really didn't think i would make it around the curve let alone a full loop on track. But... My knees didn't hurt. So after the first lap, I was like, wow, let see if I can do it again. I walked half a lap between the first mile and the second. I was tired and sweaty and had a cramp in my side when i was done, but I ran it. and then walk another 1/2 mile after to cool down. I may be a bit sore tommorrow, but I enjoyed myself, and it felt good to know I could do it. I have been doing Dance party with kids and walking, swimming and stuff. But this was the first time I tried to run. Last time I ran- it was the Marine Corp Marathon 14 years ago- and that was the first race i had run since college 5 years prior, I did it in over 5 1/2 hours, When I finished the race, I was glad i did it but set a new goal of doing it again only in under 5 hours before I turned 50. I was about 175 pounds at the time( 20 pounds lighter then now). I remember going to the store to get a new running bra, I was a 38DD, size 16 ish, at time and I hear the women behind me snicker when I was talking about running the marathon with saleswoman. " she's running a marathon?,haha, how, why" pissed me off big time. So I turn and told her, "Yes, I am. I put one foot in front of the other, and just keep going, because I can." So it was good realize today that I can do it. I it was a good feeling running again. Only 8 more years til I turn 50. I guess I need to start get myself marathon ready. Baby steps. First you walk, then you run, then you run a litle bit longer...it not out of reach.

What Do I Do About Work??

You don't have to tell what surgery is for. Just that your having a minor procedure done and need a few days recovery. I remember tell a male college that I was having a procedure done and because I was vague at first he assumed it was a " woman" thing and didn't want to know anymore. so it may work to advantage working with men- may be less questioning.

    Lapband And Hair Loss

Sorry Was on beach with 5 kids before, so didn't finish my thoughts: it's called : telogen effluvium . Goggle it . Lots of answers. More common for weight loss surgery then other surgeries. Short story: Hair grows in phases, surgery pushes lots of hair into dormant stage at once. So 3 or so months later all comes out at same time. Will grow back within 6 months or so. Make sure enough protein and iron in diet.

    Coffee

I drink Click protein in morning. It has 2 shots of expresso in it and 15 grams protein. I use my kurgig and make coffee then add click to it. Coffee has to be cooled a bit so protein doesn't clump. Another thing I do is blend it with ice and make frapicino - drink it all morning since it stays cold til ice melts. I also would bring insolated bag with my dairy products to school. Stayed cold all day. ( im nursing student- leave in my locker))Try to bring your half and half to class in a insolated lunch tote. Good luck.

Did You Keep Your Surgery A Secret?

I told anyone who asked. They will ask when the weight starts coming off. Plus they don't think I rude when I dont eat their homemade breads or it odd that I don't drink anything when we go out to eat. A few people expressed surprise and concern before. Once my family knew fact they were all good. I had one close friend who kept trying to talk me out of it. Then finally she said" what about me? I don't qualify - I'll still be fat". She was worried about me being smaller then her. She had always been smaller than me. When I told my sister - she laughed and told me she was meeting with WLS that week. She allready had her surgery scheduled. So we supported each other.

    Banned With Children.

Mine were good. 4,8, and 10 years. They were afraid to hug me at first cause Daddy told they needed to be careful. My daughter snuggled me in bed and read me stories and they drew pictures. I had my husband home and they had school during day so not too bad. My 22lb cat was a different story. He kept climbing on my tummy and wanting love. He was trying to make me feel better. Hard to prep the family cat for such things. Kids were good, as long as they knew before hand. The day of surgery I stopped by school and my daughter told get 2nd grade class I was going to hospital to have surgery on my belly, so I could play tag with her more and not get tired.

    Nsv Smaller Bra Size

Ok here's something g I never knew. I couldn't shop at Victoria secret before I was 42DDD. Now am in a 38 DD . I was worried about spending good money on nice bras when they were just getting smaller- my good friend works at VS and she had me wait a bit after I first started losing weight. At 60 pounds down. I bought 5 new bras- at the semi annual sale half off . HERE is the good part ... Victoria Secrets will exchange your purchased bras for new smaller size if you lose weight( or gain- but we aren't going there). Just bring them back- get refitted- get new smaller ones- no charge. Save your receipts ladies- bring them back
  11. Sylvia, Welcome good luck on your surgery. Where are you having it? which hospital? I was Banded on Dec 19th at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. I started at 256 and I am now down 60 pounds. I have 60 based on my BMI, but would be happy with 150 too. I live in Fulton Maryland which is south of Columbia, and about 20 miles from Baltimore. I would be happy to be you band buddy. Suzie

    Embarrassed!

Hang in there Jennifer. I know what you are feeling. My weight seems staled and then it creeps up a numger or two and I get all depressed. I haven't had the time to blog since summer started and my kids have been home. It is harder with them off from school and always eating everything. I I got down to 196 about 3 weeks ago and now back at 200. I want the 1'S BACK. Not so far away, just need to wait what I eat went I get all crazy with kids and things. Forget to pack my stuff and munch on theirs. Oh only a bite or two... but doing that a few times a day addes up So lets do this together and get back on track. We are worth it. I LOVE my size 12 jeans and don't want to give them up....until it for a size 10! I put all my size 22 thru 16's in a bag to give away. Actually took them out of house into shed. First time I got rid of them and it just put away til I needed again.. Felt good. So hang in there. You can do it. Clean slate... let begin again now.Suzie

Banded Bunny Bmi Below The Bar

So I was figuring out my BMI and realized something cool. I no longer qualify for WLS, if I were to go in today. My BMI went from 45 to 34.8 in 5 months. So I'm no longer extremely obese- just obese. So where as before I had a BMI over 40 and a few comorbities which would have had me ok for surgery with a BMI of 35, now after my last doctor check. My blood Pressure was normal 123/72, not the crazy 169/90 it was running before. I am off all my hypertension medications, EKG normal, and my blood sugar is normal where it was on the line of being scary before. It is amazing how much better I feel getting the first 57 pounds off. Now I am almost half to my goal weight-another 64 pounds to be at a normal BMI. Glad I got my band.

    Bunny Is Losing Hare..

ok I got more information on hair loss. I think I understand which makes it easier to deal with. It is a condition called telogen effluvium. Google it. Very interesting. Here is the scoop: It is very common after major surgery, pregnacy, weight loss as well. The hair will come back. Your hair gows in cycles. Some hair is always growingl, some is dormant and some is falling out so new hair can take its place. The meds you get for anesthesia, (as well as blood thinners, and beta blocker) to name a few, can cause your hair to change to a dormant stage(telogen stage). This stage of hair cycle is about 100 days can be up to 6 months for some. Anyway, so you have surgery, go under a big stress, you body switch your hair folicle from active growth to chill mode. Normally you only have about 10% of your hair in the telogen stage at one time, now you have switch about 50% to this stage. After the stage is over 100 days later the hair falls out and new hair fills folicle and starts to grow in active stage. So you lose a bunch of hair at once and then it grows back over the next 6 months or so. Ok that what I found out. Hope that helps someone who is as scared as I was this past week. So I'm gonna eat my protein and take vitimans and biotin. Good luck and thaks for comments.

    Bunny Is Losing Hare..

So I total excited because yesturday I got on scale and the number stared with 1... I was 199.5, I almost cried. Of course this would have been total awesome if I hadn't notice all my hair was falling out the day before. Yes, it happens to banders too. You can lose your hair. I lose so much hair this week, or maybe I just noticed it. So be aware that is can happen and make sure you are getting your protein in and B vitimans. My sister and my friend who both also experienced( about 4- 5 months out) it said it does come back, but it is scary I won't lie to you. Still really happy I'm under 200 for the first time since, I can remember, Think I was under 200, before my first child who will be 10 this next week. so it's been a long time since I seen any number starting with 1.
