  1. Banded: Wed 28-DEC-2011 Weird Story: Sun 1 JAN 2012 So I haven't had a lot of pain for the most part. Surgery went fine. Didn't need anything repaired. I've been following the liquid diet as prescribed. I went to work yesterday from 12pm-6:30pm (I work in retail) and was feeling very nauseated. I didn't taking any medication b4 or during work, due to the fact that it makes me fall asleep and/or makes me drowsy. Toward the end of my shift (around 6pm) I couldn't take the feeling anymore. So I decided to go home. As soon as I get home (which was around 630ish) I take my medication prescribed (Hydrocodone & Promethazine). For rest of the night, I felt all these symptoms that I've never felt before. As I laid in bed, I was shivering. Like that Titanic shivering. So my dad gave me another blanket it (which would had been my third) and turned on the heat as well. Minutes later I got up and began to vomit. Nothing came up. It was just the clear vomit, when nothing is in your stomach (weird, bcuz i had a Protein shake, broth, and juice while I was @ work.) I was vomiting on and off for the next TWO hours. As I was vomiting I was sweating as if I just ran a 5K run. It was very awful. One minute I was at the toilet then going to the sink to wash my face, cuz I was sweating so badly. Also, I was breathing as if I was in labor about to have a baby. Heavy, heavy breathing. I had enough and finally had my father call the doctor. The doctor said I had a lot of nausea and it was due to the fact that I wasn't able to hold down my medicine. The doctor said to eat a popsicle and see if that helps. That didn't help at all. Long story short, I ended up calling 911 and having the paramedics coming over. They basically checked me out and my breathing range when they first got to me was in the mid 40s, around 44-45ish and by the time they were done with me it went back to normal 20-21ish. They recommended my parents go and purchase some Pedialyte (medicine for what they give children/infants) since it had the nutritional needs my stomach needed. The paramedics also said, it was like this was the reaction my stomach had due to the surgery. Almost like if it had a reaction shock, due to "it's new form" if that makes any sense. I'm excited for my new band and what the new year will be like. I don't want this story to discourage anybody from getting the band, but it did make me think twice on if I fully "THOUGHT" of "EVERYTHING" the band could/can possible come with - long term, short term, post, and pre-op.
  2. I had Dr. Marsden. For questions 1 & 2 I typed EVERYTHING WORD FOR WORD for you. During the our group meeting with Dr. Marsden (that is through True Results), his patients and I discussed if we actually followed the pre op diet. I did fairly well. I didnt follow it exactly, but I didn't eat Red Lobster, Mickey D's, everyday either. However, this one man did not follow the diet at all. He was very nervous to whether he would be able to have the surgery due to him not following it. He even said, (his exact words) I had a bucket list I wanted to have b4 the surgery. And then there was this couple who was getting the surgery as well and said they followed it LITERALLY for what the pre op diet was. And they lost a about a total of 10-15 lbs together I believe. They were really strict with it and took what the words say literally. In my own opinion, I guess its your mental strength/wanting to follow the pre op diet to the degree that works best for you. 1. How long was your pre-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? Meal 1: 1 serving of 2: yogurt, fruit, egg, whole grain Cereal, toast, bagel, waffle, muffin Meal 2: 1 serving of Protein drink Meal 3: 1 serving (4-6 ounces) of lean meat or fish AND 1 serving of a green vegetable (lettuce, peas, broccoli, green Beans, spinach, etc) Meal 4: 1 serving of Protein Drink Duration: 2 weeks pre surgery 2. How long was your post-op liquid stage, and what were you told to eat? Week 1: Liquids - broth, skim milk, fruit juice, sugar free popsicles or Jello, low cal drinks Protein Drinks WILL BE YOUR ONLY SOURCE OF PROTEIN DURING WEEK ONE, DON'T FORGET TO DRINK YOUR PROTEIN DRINK THIS WEEK **** BASICALLY ANYTHING THAT WILL GO THROUGH A STRAW IS OKAY THE FIRST WEEK. HOWEVER, WE DISCOURAGE THE USE OF A STRAW AS IT INCREASES GAS***** WEEK 2: Soft foods (thicker Soups, scrambled eggs, pudding, canned meat, applesauce) WEEK 3: Solid foods (During this week most people are able to tolerate solid foods again. Please be careful not to overeat. You should keep the quantity of food to half cup. Just because you can eat more than half cup doesn't mean that you should. Remember the importance or not stretching the pouch. If you don't feel like you are ready to progress to the next weeks recommended diet, stay where you are and proceed at your own pace. Please make it habit to chew food well. By not chewing properly, you may experience vomiting, stomach irritation and swelling. You could also have an obstruction. Protein drinks daily if you're not eating recommended 60-70 grams of protein. 3. What was your follow-up care like with the doctor and his staff - strong, so so, could be better? I don't know yet. I will be calling later today to schedule a follow up with him and his staff. However, a couple of days after surgery I did call Dr. Marsden's # and was given immediate assistant. 4. What was the thing you liked best about your experience and the least? If you're going through True Results the staff is knowledgable. One of the rep told me what other doctors were good even though I was having Dr. Marsden. Least - Hhhmmmm...... I don't really have one. But if I had to pick at something, I guess since I went through True Results I have more of a 'personal relationship' with them vs Dr. Marsden. However, I do believe he is only a call away.
  3. I was banded on Wed 28 Dec 2011 and I was comparing this surgery to my breast reduction surgery in 2007 and yep... The breast reduction surgery was by far the worst.

    December Bandsters!! How Ya Feeling??

Banded Wed 28 Dec 2011. Mild pain. Nothing that I can't stand. Love the medication. Puts me right to sleep. Quick ?.... My stomach sometimes makes a rumbling sound. I can't tell if it's bcuz I need to eat (even though I'm not hungry) or if it's due to my surgery being 2 days ago. Anybody experience this? What did u do?
  5. I was banded on 28 Dec 2012 by Dr. John Marsden. I also went thru True Results in Richardson, TX. Some of the true results employees were also banded by Dr. Marsden. If you happen to go with True Results in Richardson the staff is friendly and helpful. Never had a problem with them. Dr. Marsden... I only meet him twice. The day b4 the surgery and the day of. I didn't get that one on one relationship with my surgeon as I did with true results. But I will be seeing the doctor within the next 2 weeks for a checkup
  6. Hey! My name is Atiyah (uh-tea-yuh) I will have my surgery this Wednesday (28 Dec 11) at 9am. I do not know anybody that is banded (maybe due to my age I'm 23), so I can't ask any of my friends or family personal questions or what to "really" expect. So I was wondering what should I expect (whether bad or good) post surgery? It can be about the day of, 6 months later, eating, pain, any topic that you happen to think of will be valuable to me. Or even something you wish you would had known or been told about post surgery. Of course I know everyone is different, so I know experiences and stories will vary. Thanks for the advice/info.
