Are the "bariatric" brands formulated differently? For easy absorption or certain vitamins that you might need? -
Trying To Learn Everything I Can...
waterlover replied to vanb0052's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wasn't the gastric sleeve the first step of a DS traditionally? So if you get the sleeve and find it's not enough for you, then you could do the DS later? Is the DS less invasive, with less complications than an RNY? -
Please Help Me Decide
waterlover replied to ocean_ophelia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am planning to go to Mexico for my surgery, I did not consider Almanza, but did consider Kelly. I think I have made my decision (a completely different doctor), but choose what you feel is right. I did a lot of google searches with the doctor's name then "complication", "infection", "leak", etc as additional keywords. Then I read the info and judged whether or not it was true or fake. Mostly just by looking at the poster if it was on a forum, and seeing if they had a blog about their journey, or how involved they were with the site (pictures, tickers, posts about other things besides complaints, etc). Good Luck! -
The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(
waterlover replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow. really blows my mind how little you can eat after the sleeve. compared to what i am used to eating now, it's exciting. i've always wanted to have that kind of control. my stomach has it's own brain though, thank god it's getting a lobotomy. not looking forward to the coldness. i am so cold right now. my Iron is low though so i swear that has something to do with it. cold feet especially. and a chill in my shoulders. -
Gallbladder Ultrasound
waterlover replied to fluffylibra30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my sister in law almost died from a ruptured gallbladder. she was sooo sick. i don't know if it's the size or amount of the stones that can get caught up in the tract. i don't believe in the whole lemon/olive oil flush thing that is popular on a lot of the holistic sites. although i don't know anyone personally who tried it and did or didn't get results. i think i can feel it sometimes because i get a weird pain once and a while on my right side. who wants to have a VSG then six months later a cholecystectomy? if WLS for sure can muck your gallbladder up maybe it's better to get it removed. -
Gallbladder Ultrasound
waterlover replied to fluffylibra30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was diagnosed with a medium size stone and i don't THINK it's giving me any real problems, maybe i have an 'attack' a couple times a year, nothing that a cup of boiled flax seed didn't get rid of. i was supposed to get it taken out but i didn't go to the surgeon consultation. something inside me tells me i want to keep my gallbladder. i don't know if this is a good decision, i just have an issue taking it out. i wonder if it will get worse after i have my surgery and weight loss. i know the doctor i chose to do VSG does take it out if it's a problem. what a hard decision. more research i guess... -
The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(
waterlover replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i noticed some of you guys talking about going to restaurants. do you order a meal? or just a soup? eat food off other people's plates? going out to eat, they give you HUGE plates of food. i guess you can just take the leftovers home then? -
totally derailing this thread but, oh wow you know, i was thinking this morning, when you get your sleeve, and you have to focus on your Protein, then your veggies and how so many of you hardly eat bread or sugar anymore. That must really help those of you with allergies to certain foods, candida problems or even gluten intolerance you might never knew you had, till you stopped eating it and felt so much better, ON TOP of the weight loss. and you must know what doesn't agree with you so much more easily as you are much more in tune with what you are putting into your mouth now. how excellent! i'm going to look up some flavor packs to add to Water. maybe with stevia in them. oh! does anyone ever drink coconut water drinks?
-
well if this is the case i'm gonna buy myself some FIJI Water after surgery. i love that stuff it's soooo good but too expensive right now because of the amount i usually drink. have you guys ever had that water? it's elite stuff. i drink tap water right now which is rather sketchy to me, you can taste the chemicals in it. i can totally see me getting yucked out about having to drink it after surgery if it has to be room temperature or something because it's already unpalatable. all that chlorine and stuff probably wont agree with tummy.
-
i can imagine. hey i read somewhere (can't remember) that you can't use a straw because of air bubbles? is that true and if it is, is it just after surgery or what? do most of you add flavor to your Water? is it less nauseating to eat ice chips for a while (doing mental math in my head how many ice cubes equal a cup of water... )
-
you look incredible! i snuck a peak at your gallery. lol. nice pic of dr. aceves, he reminds me of my dad, probably one of the reasons i chose him. don't know if that's good or bad hehe.
-
yay! there is hope lol. it's so embarrassing, and funny at the same time (when you read it all written out). gah!
-
thanks for your input, it's going to be SO HARD to stop drinking when i eat, i always do, thank you for warning me. im going to try to cut back now. is the amount you have to drink when you have the sleeve the healthiest amount you should drink then?
-
haha, that's an AWESOME way to put it.
-
hehe 'bonier' i understand that. i had a tummy tuck after i had my daughter so they pulled up the whole pubic area on me so i have this freaky fat patch up to the scar of my tuck, then a freakishly flat stomach (with puffy hips sticking out i'm so weird shaped now). i really hope to lose that without having to have lipo. it's really weird and unnatural. if i wear yoga pants it's like i have a computer mouse shoved down my pants. (i know TMI lol). well you look fabulous and you seem to be in excellent shape. very inspirational! it must be so different to have only 10lbs left to worry about than what we start with, i'm so excited. i want to lose 100lbs. although not sure if that's too much or not, i suppose i'll stop when my body decides it's time? i don't even know. i just know i was most 'normal' looking at 115lbs, i'm short so it's reasonable. i cant wait! i'm now thinking that since i'm having the surgery and going to be eating more thoughtfully and exercising that maybe my body will look better than it did in my early twenties as i never worked out or tried to define my muscles. now i know much much more about taking care of my body. ps. speaking of calves, those are actually my own in the picture in my avatar lol.

Bad Panic Attack -- I'm So Scared. I Need Positive Post-op Stories Or Is This A Nightmare Mistake I'm About To Make?
waterlover replied to CoffeeAndMagazines's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you make a good point estella, the routine part. i always think every surgery for a doctor is some bloody emergency OR scene from a movie or show from tv. where they are yelling STAT! a lot and everyone is running around. i guess it's not like that at all is it? haha. -
oh wow 14lbs left!!! you must be so proud of yourself! congratulations! do you think that the extra tummy weight could be helped with exercise then? like doing lots of situps? or you just have to lose it. likasulema, you are ahead of me in the journey gotta keep me updated on those thighs lol.

Thanks for answering my question everyone. I think even having people tell me their stories has made me feel a lot better. I think I was just going through a 'complication freak out' period. I also think I have chosen the doctor I want to do the surgery! So I feel so much better now. -
