Yes, I was on medicaid when I had my surgery. It took me almost three weeks to get the green from medicaid then I had to do an ekg and a blood test then they scheduled my surgery. I think that they look to see if you have two or more what they call co-morbidies (high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholestral) and a high bmi! Hope this helps.

Thanks! I myself gave it up and only miss it when I'm shopping or eatting something fastfood. My problem with soda was always that it made me crave sweets and I do not want that now!!!

I am two weeks post op and am on mechanically soft foods now. I am wondering if this is to good to be true though. I am able to eat everything so far and not have problems. I have been making the right choices so far as food is concerned but am eating with the family just not able to eat very much.. I am trying not to "look for trouble" but am starting to feel like this is getting easier. I still want the whole taco and burritto but can only eat the meat and cheese and a little sour cream. Very doable. Can I possibly be doing this right and not feel like it is so hard? Or should I not be eating what I am eating? I have not had a fill yet. I am scheduled for Feb 7th. They did say that I was showing some restriction though. Could this possibly be life after band?
-
Wow. My post op went good. I have lost 19 lbs in two weeks!!!! They did a test and found I have some restriction already so that totally explains the bubble like feeling I get in the morning. I did have a low temp so they put me on an antibiotic (yuck) it tastes like a grinded up pill. I would much rather have the pill. Oh well I dont want an infection. I am feeling like I can do this whole band thing today. I have days where I definitly doubt it though. Mainly when my hubby makes his homemade pizza. (My favorite food) My son cracks me up though. It doesnt matter that I have not eaten anything of real value in almost 3 weeks. Yesterday we went to Chinease and I got a small bowl of egg drop soup, afterwards, he at 7 says, "Mom, when is that band going to make you skinny? Cuz if you keep eating all of your food at dinner it is never going to work!" HA Oh my goodness. Never mind that I used to eat 5 plates at the buffet before, now if I eat a small bowl of dinner I should just give up!!! I love him. Here is to us January bandsters! New Years, New Us!!

I did the 5 incision surgery, but if it makes you feel better day 1 through 6 was rough but you get through. I am on day 11 and feel almost completely normal!! You will get through this. Day 4 and 5 I went shopping and when I got home I was pooped! I could not believe how much I couldnt do and felt so yucky, I just wanted to be normal again. I promise if you give yourselves a few days you will be doing more!

I am 10 days out and am hungry!! I am like mags I can't seem to get all my protein in and drinking enough water is like pulling teeth. I can't wait to finally be able to chew something. We can do this though...we just have to remember why we put ourselfs through this. For me it is remembering the day I bought a shirt because it was long enough to hide my rolls, then found myself online buying 3 more just like it, not because it was cute but because it fit. Sounds petty but everyday I try to think of one more thing about being fat that I hate. We can do this!!

Losing, Support And Friendship
shay33 replied to readytogoforit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! I was having a hard time when the website went down. -
I was put in the biggest gown I had ever seen. It made me feel so little I almost doubted my needing the surgery! When it was time to walk they put another around my back and I was set. Very comfy!

What A Great Group Of People! Hello!
shay33 replied to herestolosingit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Grace, I was banded the same day and yes I doubt myself. I go through spurts where I just know I can do it and then the doubt starts kicking in (mainly when i smell good food)! I get to start mushie foods tomorrow and know how excited I am for it, so I know the idea of 3 wks of liquids must feel defeating. If it makes you feel better I know I am scared of mushies. You can do it. After making such a big change it is scarry i know but we can do it. I know for me today is the first day I have been left by myself and it has been hard. I have been trying to keep myself busy. Even if that means prepping dinner for my family (that I can't eat)! Every night I go to sleep I feel I have acomplished something. Stay strong! -
Awesome!!! Can't wait for your next update!!! You posted that song the day i had surgery for me...I can't tell you how much that meant! Now its your turn and It truly is YOUR day!!!

Yes, My Co-workers Will See Me Naked!

Let us know how you did! I know you will be fine. See ya on the band side. -
Mine is pizza! I could live without ever eating the crust, but the idea of never eating pizza again saddens me. Tomorrow I start on mushies so I am starting to get nervous about food getting stuck now. Up until now it has been all liquid so I havent had to worry!

Tori I don't have the shoulder pain you are talking about. I wonder if you were holding your body funny after surgery and pulled something. I would call your surgeon and just check with them. I had to get my books yesterday too. I felt so funny having my mom with me holding them like I was a princess and couldnt be bothered! ha! I had 9 books and didnt want to risk holding them too long because it pulls my tummy. It has been 7 days today and I have to say it is getting better. I still find myself mourning the loss of food, but watching my face slowly lose its double chin is worth it. Good luck and let me know what the say about your shoulder.

You will do great! I am a week out and let me tell you the day before my surgery I was so nervous, but I got on this site and someone told me the best advise. "Go in the hospital and just let go of your control - let the nurses and doctors take care of you - you made the decision to do this now just let change happen!" Just think next year this same time we will be on here encouraging future "bandies" and telling our stories and successes! Here is to the new us~

Please keep us posted...I am starting to look forward to finding out what letter makes it the next day!!! Good luck on your play and I am glad you are doing so well. -
Help! Has anyone felt this before? I am almost 4 days out of surgery and I noticed last night that everytime I take a drink (sip) I feel a gurgle and I start feeling gas like pain. Is this normal? I am trying to stay positive but it is getting harder and harder. Any advise would help.
-
I did. I really thought I was going to die. Literally. I think that the only thing that kept me going was my surgeon said no one had died with him and also I knew that if I kept on with the way I was going I would die anyways. My cholestral was high and I was fixing to be put on insulin. They don't call it "Morbid" obesity for nothing. Just relax though. I was in and out in 45 min and the pain was most definitly bearable. I walked within the hour and I started to feel like myself again. You CAN do this.

Help, I Feel Gurgling When I Drink
shay33 replied to shay33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It wouldnt be so bad but it is uncomfortable sometimes and I am sipping slowly. I hope it is just from being swollen because right now it makes it hard to get all my liquids in. -
No. Most surgeons fix the hernia when they put the band on. My doctor said it is very common and an easy fix. Hope this helps!
-
I am 3 days out now, but I was only on a liquid diet for a week myself. I was VERY jeolous of the people on here that were able to eat a meal a day, but that being said it does prepare you more for the diet after surgery. So if I were you I would look at it as a way to start dealing with eating habits and emotions. I hated those dang shakes but it has been four days since I have been able to have one and now I cant wait till tomorrow when I can drink one.
-
Can't wait for that to be me!!! lol
-
It won't be long. Mine happened faster than I thought it would. Today is my last day on clear liquids so I am excited and nervous for tomorrows advancement to full liquids. I woke up less sore this morning and that was great! Stay strong on the soda thing I think it helps for later if we deal with some of our issues before surgery. I know it has helped me. Good luck and stay strong!
