    Too Much Water

<--drinking tons of Water here ... I was always a big water drinker before being banded. I use to drink well over a gallon. I am up to about 64 ounces now. I do sometimes drink to I am full, I think because for some weird reason before being banded I like that 'full' water feeling, isn't that odd? Anyway, I drink normally.. I am fully aware of not to 'guzzle' like a luniatic. Water will just stream through the band, however you have to be mindful when you have anything 'thicker' than water in you. Even yogurts or cottage cheese is considered thick and you would have to sip afterwards. I am still on liquidy mushy foods for another 2 weeks...
  2. Coley, when you ate your cheese stick did you wait your time to drink any fluids? Did you chew chew chew that cheese and take breaks in between? Do you think you drank to fast after you ate the cheese? If you can still get fluids down you are more than likely having a 'stuck' episode. I seriously dread it and it scares me. I am in the mushy stage now and everything I eat is liquidy. I do drink very fast at times (well all the time) and so far (knock on wood) I have been okay. I've heard many on here say try sipping pineapple juice or chewing Papya enzymes if you have a stuck episode. If its a really a bad stuck take a few sips of gingerale (very very tiny sips) you don't want to expand your pouch, supposedly the 'carbanation" works as an 'unplug" system. However, I would do that as your last resort if you still have that stuck feeling. If you still feel this way, call up your surgeon... Best of luck, keep us all posted!

    Hey All...need Some Advice.

Hi Kristine, You weight loss numbers are impressive in such a small amount of time. Whatever you are doing is working for 'you'. We all lose weight differently and at our own pace. Its wonderful you can still mingle and go out with your friends and eat at fast food places and you are still aware of the calories/fat you are eatting. I mean think about it since when did you or any of us sit down and eat 2 chicken strips and 6 french fries and stop? You seem to have a lot of will power and contro, good for you! Keep doing what you are doing, it is working. Don't worry about extra skin you are very young and more than likely the skin will bounce right back Congrats on your weight loss and continued success! -Patty

    Got Stuck Tonight-Again

Hi Donna, I am so sorry you are going through this. I dont know about another fill if you cant get a thin slice of deli meat down. If it keeps happening maybe you should get a little unfil. I have no clue yet when my surgeon starts fills yet, however I think I am going to wait a month or so where I am on solid foods before this happens. I am only 10 days post op and still very swollen, and told my stomache will be swollen for another week! I wish you the best, keep us updated. Patty

    Not Losing :(

Please use this time as for healing, just as Carolina girl said you are still recovering. I am 9 days post-op and just started mushy stages per instructions of my surgeon because I am having a hard time with my protein and she is worried I will get sick having no nutrients, but she made it clear my mushy foods are to be very liquidy (no meats) I am drinking plenty of water(about 64 ounces) and gatorade. Gatorade replenishes any loss of fluids, restoring back electrolites. It has the right amounts of sodium, carbs, and potassium. I drink about 12 ounces a day. Main thing is to follow YOUR surgeon's orders to what your plan is! Don't worry about the weight as it will come off
  8. ohhh i am so nervous thinking about fills..... I better get over it soon, LOL

    Don't Weigh Myself?!?!?!?!?!

Hi Melissa, The scale can be your best and worst friend. I myself get on the scale once a week at the same time and day first thing in the morning. You can weigh yourself every day, and every day you will see a different number. Why do that to yourself! Put the scale away and look forward to jumping on it once a week. You don't need the added stress. I know for many it is difficult to do this, but honestly that is pure torture! Best of luck to you! -Patty

    Anyone Getting Banded In July?

Me too! my post op visit was yesterday, Surgeon said the incisions healed nicely. She wants me on mushys now (for the next 2 weeks) because I can not get the Protein drinks down because of acid reflux. Got the ok to go swimming! My 3 mushy meals are planned out for the day, so excited about eatting and getting some nutrients in. Glad you are doing well!!!
  12. Hey Everyone, It's been a week since my surgery and today I wanted to update you all on my status since I have joined this site over 7 Months ago. According to my Surgeon everything went great! My Husband said I was in the OR no more than 50 minutes. He couldn't believe how fast it was. I was released to go home same day (which I was shocked), but to find out later that all lap band surgeries done by my surgeons are all to go home unless there was a problem. Two days into post-op right after I tried drinking a Protein drink I have developed very bad acid reflux. I hoped it would pass, but here we are day 7 and it is still bad to where I haven't had any Protein drinks (but 2) in 7 days. Luckily enough I am keeping myself very hydrated. I drink plenty of Water and gatorade and basically have lived off of these 2 drinks since. I have minor discomfort such as bloating and swelling feeling around the incisions, but nothing that is not tolerable. My gas pains are gone and have had them for only a few days. Really the acid producing is unbareable. My first post-op doctor visit is tomorrow (Thursday) where I will discuss this with one of the surgeons. I have already started myself on Prevacid (its only been 2 days). I really hope this will pass, I didn't expect this to happen to me and I am worried because I am getting NO nutrients in what so ever! I will keep you all posted on what the surgeon tells me.... PS: A HUGE thank you to my friend Mis73 (Missy) for always being there for me, she has been my backbone through this entire process. My husband and I are very thankful for her. Love ya girlie!!! -Patty
  13. Surgeon at first looked in my mouth and immediately thought I was dehydrated because my tongue is white and I have constant thirst. I told her I am drinking plenty of Water and gatorade (almost 64 oz). She asked about my urine output and if I was lightheaded or dizzy. I told her I was just a little lightheaded but because I am not taking in any nutrients in 8 days this could be the reason. Basically she said the band is tight due to swelling that should go down by next week, she offered to take the air out today and I got scared because I am still sore around my incision where the port is. She gave me a prescription for a powder form antacid blocker to see if that works and to come back to the office next week if I continue to have the same symptoms. I was told to to eat some fine mushy foods immediately because I can't do the Proteins right now. Tonight I was told to do plain oatmeal with unsweetened applesauce and make it liquidy, and try to get in 4 ounces. Thus, this might help with the acid that is over producing in my stomache. Overall, incisions have healed up nicely and I was told I can go swimming

    100 Pounds Lost!

Congratulations! a wonderful accomplishment, you should be very proud of yourself! How lucky, no fills!!!!
  15. Great advise Missy, I did this on the pre-op that was the only way I was able to lose the weight was to spread my meals through the course of the day.

  21. Hi Samantha, tricky tricky question... How we all learned was the hard way, through trial and error. Every person has different taste towards what brand works best for them. I can't tell you how many brands I purchased and money I spent before I found the brand I like. Now, with saying that you can start off by not spending a lot of money by buying Pure Protein 'Chocolate" from Walmart. Its inexpensive and taste like a chocolate milk shake if mixed with fat free milk or almond milk. You will need unflavored protein as well to add to your Soups, foods once banded. I found unjury unflavored and Now sports unflavored is 'my' choice. You can visit www.unjury.com and order samples. Now sports I purchased on Amazon, Pure protein I purchased from walmart. Best of luck, Patty
