Is Salad A Red Flag Food?

I know isn't it crazy how surgeons can be so different with their plans compared to others. LOL I am a little nervous, at the same time my band is completely empty as I just went to my surgeons office yesterday because I had trapped air in my band after surgery and she removed the air from the band. I don't go back for almost another 4-6 weeks. Next week is a family bbq I am making homemade potato salad, but I will put a little on the side and make mine 'lower' in fat. I am nervous about eatting a hot dog, but I will just remember to take very tiny small bites and chew till that baby is mush ..LOL Oh, and watermelon for dessert! ya have to let me know how you did on your solids when you are able to ...

Is Salad A Red Flag Food?

Looking forward to having salads next week when I start on solids
  5. So, I have been having issues with 'fullness' and a foamy mouth for weeks. While I went to my surgeon 9 days after surgery I was told to wait 2 weeks to for the swelling to go down in my stomache and if not to come back. Well, nothing had changed, I would eat 2-4 ounces of mushy foods and get so full I couldn't eat more. I would drink a lot of Water, and was too full to even eat. My food tracker indicates I was getting in about 6-8 ounces of food a day (no snacks) and lots of water. At first the surgeon might of thought I was dehyrdated but we ruled that out because I am drinking more than 64 ounces of water a day. Could be 'acid reflux' and this is still in question. While my foamy mouth is still in question, The surgeon did remove air that was trapped in my band. It was painless and she found my port super fast (what a relief that was). I was numbed first, told to do a little sit up and then lay back down... waaaala! I will continue to take an acid blocker for another 2 weeks and hope I can get more food in. If I still foam I am going to my primary doctor to investigate if this could be a side effect from one of either one my medications I take. I really hope its not a bad case of acid reflux I never had this before the band...

    Taste Affected?

Maryan, This happened to me a few days after surgery. Even Water was disgusting and that is all I drink, could you imagine. While I was able to get a lot of water down immediately after surgery, I was mindful to not 'gulp'.. Oh, this will pass, you will get your taste buds back very soon. Hang in there ((hugs))

    How Much Protein Daily

I envy all of you! I barely get 30, but I do strive every day to do more. The fact is I cannot drink my protein. This happened after surgery and because I couldn't drink protein for 8 days after surgery the surgeon made a decison to start me on very liguidy mushy foods, but made it clear it had to be liquidy. I am able to eat my protein inside the foods, but still cannot drink it. I am 3 weeks post-op and will be on mushy foods for the next 2 weeks. I am taking a multivitamin, vitamin d, calcium, and biotin pill every day.

How Soon After Surgery Before I Can Exercise?

I was happy I was told I could go swimming 2 weeks post op. I am moving a lot around the water lately, yesterday I walked around the pool at least a dozen times. Dove underneath water tons of times. the only thing I felt was a small tiny tugging around my port area when I had to get out of the pool to climb the ladder, I was very careful, actually I really crawled up the ladder and just took my time, but let me tell you when you are wet climbing out of the water it feels like you weight 10 pounds heavier! blah! I spent 5 hours straight moving around the water and it felt good, .. no pressure, no pain. It felt really good to be in the water. I soooo love the water!!

    Throwing Up Daily.

I really think you have to find another surgeon. I was given a full and complete plan 'before' my surgery. It is about as thick as small book and outlines everything I should be eatting from stage 1 through stage 5. Including menus on the back. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes.. I am very early on and do not know a lot, I have joined this forum back in December and learn from others, its really does put things into perspective. I am sure I too will make mistakes down the road. Right now I am very much scared of my band, and do follow my surgeons rules as I hope that I will always do, but like I said we are all only human and will make mistakes. I wish you the best of luck, you have come to the right place for moral support, guidiance, and encourangement. I for one think you are doing a great job with your weight loss! -Patty

    Throwing Up Daily.

Jean, while I am in this early in the game i agree that it is very important to have an understanding compassionate surgeon, one who actually listens. Because NO one knows your body better than you do. I also have chosen one of the best surgeons in New Jersey who have 4 bariatric surgeons available. If I don't get the head huncho, I know I will always get one out of the 4 who will be there for me and listen. Not to mention the excellent staff who caters to me every time I call or visit. I think this is a huge part of being a successful weight loss pateint.
  22. Hello to all my July Bandsters! Roll Call.......... How are you doing so far?? 2 and 1/2 weeks post-op here. Not 100% yet. Still very bloated, swollen especially on one side, minor discomfort. Incisions are healing nicely (i have dermabond). Drinking lots of fluids, keeping hydrated. Started mushy stages getting in about 2-4 ounces twice a day, sometimes 3 times a day. Yesterday I actually got in a sugar free vanilla pudding and smashed a few slices of bananas in it. Started taking a Multivitamin (liquid form) for now until I can swallow Vitamin pills. I am only going to the bathroom #2 once every several days. I can't wait for that to go back to normalcy. Reaching about 20-30 grams of Protein a day, still trying to shoot for the required 60. Trying to move around more,I am working on this.... Hope you are all doing well...

Do Lap Banders, really need BREAKFAST?

I love breakfast, its my favorite part of the day...Now since I am banded I can't do breakfast 'right away' because the first thing I do when getting up is drink tons of water so my belly is completely full. As I sit here and type this I am waiting for 12 noon to roll around so I can eat.I usually give myself a half hour after I drink water to eat anything. No, I will not skip it because I only eat 2-4 ounces per meal and need my nutrients to stay healthy avoiding becoming sick, thus avioiding in the future to be tempted by unhealthy foods by 'skipping' meals.
