Hey Princess, I didn't have a fill but instead had air removed from my band after surgery. Its basically the same set up. I was super scared, for nothing, LOL They put numbing gel on my belly, my surgeon found my port in seconds (what a relief), the needle went into the port (I felt a tiny prick, almost like when you get bloodwork), it was nothing, I really got myself all worked up for nothing. It was done super quick and painless! Now, I can't tell you what a 'fill' feels like with the saline going in, so maybe someone else can explain that better You are going to be just fine, .... ask for the numbing gel if they don't do it!

Need Some Advice. Getting Enough Protein But What About Veggies?
PattyGirl66 replied to lucky2bLAURA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To keep balance you should weigh 3-4 oz of lean meat, 2 oz of veggie, 2 oz of carb.. or you eliminate the carb and do 4/4 that = 8 oz = 1 cup Example I eat: 4 oz ground turkey pattie/ 1/4 cup cooked spinach/ 1/4 cup mashed sweet potatoes = 1 cup ( I always eat my turkey pattie first, then the veggies, and if I am still hungry I then eat my carb (if I can get to it, lol). I guess a light V8 wouldn't hurt occassionally, just keep in mind of the sodium when drinking them. -
1St Fill Turned Into No Fill.
PattyGirl66 replied to lexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is horrible! I feel so bad for you! Next time wait until your surgeon is readily available to do this if no one can't. Only the surgeons are allowed to do fills in our office, there are 4 so there is at least 1 available if the others are not there. -

Every persons nightmare! I feel so bad for you that you had to endure this horrific incident! I hope you are getting all the help you need to get back to being yourself again, without the pain ((hugs)) Take care Ellen! -
Like the rest of the posters said, you should be focusing on Protein and fluids. I didn't start calorie counting until in my 5th week when I started on solids. The first 4 weeks I really focused on making sure I didn't dehydrate. I drank lots of fluids, Water gatorade, apple juice. chicken broth with Protein powder. For your mushy stage you can Also eat avacados and part skim ricotta cheese, laughing cow lite cheese is great. Also, a can of tuna (drained) in water and (blenderized) with one wedge of laughing cow is deeeeeeeeeeeelish! Remember 4-6 weeks for your body to heal! Take care,

Hi Nikki, this is not the time to worry about losing weight. Your main priority right now is to focus on getting your Proteins, drinks, fluids so you don't dehydrate. Fluids will heal your body much faster. Water, gatorade is great. Make sure you are drinking/sipping all day long. Your body will take about 4-6 weeks to heal. There is plenty of time to lose weight, now is not the time to focus on that! Now, go rest up and take care of your new stomache Best of luck,

Hi Orlando, I think frozen meals are great to have *sparingly*, the reason I say this is because if most of your meals are 'frozen' meals, your sodium levels are super high. this could lead to Water retention as well and to be honest its still 'processed' foods and you really should be very careful with them as eating them in high quanity can be more harmful. Have you tried preparing your own meals? I bet you they would be much more satisfying and of course healthier. You can try preparing them before hand and freezing them so that they are easily accessible to you. Don't eliminate carbs out of your diet all together, in the long run you will pay dearly for it. Wholesome grains, wheats, oats, Beans are 'fulling' foods. Always measure 1 cup of food together, this should be 3-4 oz of lean meat, 1/4 cup of veggies, 1/4 cup of carb. Potatoes are not bad for you, its what you put on it. As a matter of fact is a very good carb, whole wheat Pasta, anything with 100% whole wheat is great. Someone on here gave us a great recipe for homemade pizza: 1 whole wheat pita bread (half) 2/3 cups of pasta sauce 1/4 cup of low fat mozzarella cheese (shredded) *Put the pita bread in the oven for about 10 mins to get it toasted, take out and add the rest of the ingrediants* put back in the oven till everything is melted. You can also doctor this up adding fresh sliced tomatoes, turkey bacon, black olives, feta cheese, even cubed chicken breast. Possibilities are endless....

wow 145lbs and with no fill!!! that is awesome! what willpower you must have. I don't have a fill yet I am actually full on what I eat so I am okay for now. I can say this, I had a needle go into my port to remove air that was trapped inside my band after surgery, and like you I was sooo scared. OMG, I had an anxiety attack in the office just thinking about it. Once they put the numbing gel on my belly she found the port in seconds, put the needle in and in a matter of seconds it was over with! I worried for nothing! You are going to be just fine, keep us posted on your first fill

First Pb + Jelly Sandwich In Almost A Year!
PattyGirl66 replied to blackcadillacs5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nothing wrong with a pb&j sandwich as long as it was whole wheat bread, measured Peanut Butter and measured low sugar jam. You know that Welch's now has jelly/jam with no high fructose and corny syrup? Just measure, 1tsp goes a long way... mmm mmm I am sure that was about the best sandwich you ate so far -
Also, like Mis73 said, ..I suggest adding some healthy fat to your meals as well. Besides calories you need fat to burn,. Track your fat content daily. Depending on your age and weight you can find out how much fat you need a day. I know for me, I need to intake up to 25 grams of fat a day. Healthy fat of course... oh, another thing to keep you on track is to log daily. You can use an app right on your phone called "loseit" . Thanks to Mis73 for telling me about this app I can't live withouth it .. I track everything, and it lets me know all of my nutrients for the day/week. I love it!!!

No, I didn't see my surgeon right after surgery (I was same day surgery and went home), he was operating on other patients. Like a revloving door one out one in... however, after my surgery was over he immediately came out and spoke personally to my family about my surgery while I was in recovery. I have seen my surgeons in the office post op visits and they are all very friendly and great listners. I wouldn't take it personally, because they were probably doing the same routine. Now, when you go to your post-op visits will make a difference in the world how you feel about your surgeon thereafter...

Complete Loser.... And Not In A Good Way
PattyGirl66 replied to scorrea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Scorra, I have to agree with the gentleman who posted above. You are deff not getting in the required amount of calories and fat you need to actually 'burn' fat. How do i know, because I track my food daily, I mean everrrrrything I track, even mustard and ketchup. At first I was barely eating like you, I mean barely. getting in around 400 calories a day, and barely any fat. I still contiuned to lose but this weight should be flying off of me as big as I am. Now, I am up to around close to 1000 and pulling in around 20-25 grams of fat. Yes fat, you need that to burn fuel. I don't care where i get the fat from I eat it as long as its healthy. Like yesterday I only got in 13 grams of fat. so I took out my measuring spoon and put creamy peanut butter in it and ate it right off the spoon. 1 tbs I got that added boost of good fat I needed. I do this with my smart balance butter, olive oil, and cheese. You can also buy some delish nuts like almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts, and pistachios for extra healthy fat and protein. You got to get in girl! Track track track your food, make your daily quota for calories and fat (don't forget to add up the protein) and you will notice a difference. starving yourself will not make you lose weight! Oh, btw try and 'eat' your calories and fat not drink them..... You can do this!!!!!!! keep us posted! -

How Do You Get All Your Protein In Besides Eating Meat?
PattyGirl66 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well since i am having problems with goooooing. I am going to start eating more beans since I have not been doing so. going out today and buying them. any kind you recommend for this issue, LOLOLOL -
I drink over a gallon of water a day, eat fresh fruits, fiber, oats...and still have the same issues. Its so annoying to think I would go almost 2x a day before surgery to once every 3 days. it really suxs! I once drank half a gallon of welchs grape (in 3 days) juice and went 5 days in a row, but I don't want to depend on all that sugar and drink to keep doing this. grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

How Do You Get All Your Protein In Besides Eating Meat?
PattyGirl66 replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
chicken leg quarters are a great source of not only protein but iron too, I eat them 3x a week. The dark meat is very tender and moist. If you cook chicken breast, sliced thin you can sautee' them in sauce like pasta sauce right there you are getting a vegtable serving. I had chicken breast cutlets cut up in light alfredo sauce last night it was very moist. You can make your own ground turkey meat and add egg whites, low fat sour cream to the mixture to moistened it up. The trick is not to overcook your meat. sautee them or moistened them up.
