Post Op Stomach Pain
PattyGirl66 replied to angkinna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I had the same problems for the past 2 days as well. I just saw my surgeon today and he said that I am straining too much and it can cause discomfort in the stomache area. I still have problems with BM. He suggested metamucil, and to start adding benefiber to my diet daily. Metamucil until I can go. These are powder forms to be mixed with water. Constipation can give your severe cramps/bloatedness/fullness/ not to mention irritability. If it continues after trying these, contact your surgeon and let him/her know what you are going through. Oh, try not to strain so much I was told Best of luck, -
It sounds like you are experiencing heartburn. Have you tried chewing on tums? If so do you feel relief from it? If it continues contact your surgeon so he can prescribe you an antacid reducer. Don't worry, believe it or not many many newly banded people get heartburn right after lapband surgery. It does go away over time. You deff will want to discuss this with your surgeon, especially before getting a fill. Best of luck,

ohh no!!! I hope you feel okay now ((hugs)) finicky band!!!!

Ya know, this is a very touchy subject because so many bandsters have different point of views when it comes to the scale. Personally, I weigh in once a week. There isn't really a wrong or right way when you should get on the scale. Its what you feel comfortable doing. Keep in perspective when weighing yourself daily, the numbers will change too. So, you really have to be mentally ready to handle the highs and the lows. Now, I will also add that since you are 'newly' banded you should not be doing this. Your body now is going to take around 4-6 weeks to heal and is going through so many changes. Remember you have a brand new stomache now and your main focus is to 'heal'. Best of luck on your new journey,

Betty, your fellow band mates are right and it does sound like your band is tight. Deff. call asap so you can get some relief, a tight band is not good at all and can only lead to complications down the road.... Let us all know

Hi Irisheyes, I think the best thing you are doing for yourself is going back to your surgeon and tell him/her of your needs so that they can be met. You have a tool that is functional and in order for it to work you have to help it do its job. It works, and you will have to work with it in order for you to be successful with your weight loss. Motivation is different for all of us, there are so many reasons why people have weight loss surgery, but overall when it 'really' matters the most is that when we come to the realization how bad our weight has jeopardized our health, mobility, pretty much our entire functionality. For whatever reason we chose to have this surgery, we all can agree its because we want to live! I personally don't think you made a mistake at all, I believe you want to lose the weight very bad. Going to see a therapist would be a great idea, it may just shed some light on why you keep turning to food for comfort. Wishing you all the very best!

Your peers here tell you the truth. You are NOT guaranteed success in any weight loss surgery if you don't stay in control of your eating habbits now. Example: My very own brother had Gastric Bypass many years ago when at that time they pulled all of your intenstines out, disected, and placed them back inside. Yes, he lost tons of weight, very fast, looked very ill. Well, over a year into all that he gained every single pound plus! YOU on the other hand have a 'tool' that can actually help you not only to lose the weight, but to actually keep it off! You must go right back to basics. Since you moved you need to find a surgeon who is local. Set up an appointment and get help right away. You know it works, you see it works, YOU have to HELP it work! I wish you the best of luck,

Missy is correct, my surgeon told me the same thing as we lose weight our stomache shrinks, thus the band does get loose.

Today I had to go to the my PCP because I became severly congested over the weekend. Not to mention how my stomache feels from all that hacking, sorry tmi... (I have Bronchitis) I was given antibiotics and an inhaler. Anyway, today I hit under the 300 mark and weigh 298 lbs. and even though its still a high number it just feels so darn good to be out of the 300 + .. I was so happy I had to share, even though I am too sick to jump up and down yet

OHH No! Please let us know the outcome of this (hugs) -
Hey hon, yea that is a lot getting stuck that often. You poor thing! From what I understand; Are you taking very small bites and chewing till almost minced in your mouth? If you said yes, then chances are you are too tight and possibly need a small unfill. Don't suffer yourself anymore, get help and I am glad to hear you will be speaking to your surgeon about this. Let us know,
-
I really hope you bandsters who have fills can address this issue she is experiencing because honestly, I would be veryyy concerned if I were getting 'stuck' often. Have you spoke to your surgeon about the constant 'stuck' issues???

I am so glad I am banded for the up coming Holidays. My band will give me the help I am going to need so that I don't 'over' stuff myself. Yes, I will still enjoy the foods I love the only difference is I won't be eating plates of it. I am grateful I won't have that painful feeling of 'busting' out of my clothing and feeling sick afterwards after eating a holiday meal. Those things I will be greatful for. My eating habbits have changed drastically in such a small amount of time I have been banded, I look at food differently now and am extremely cautious of my food choices. Even though I had never had a fill, I still have restriction. I would never consider or even think of wanting an unfill just for my guilty pleasure, because at the end of the day, you would have to live with that guilt and thats one guilt I can do without...

Its sooo exciting, isn't it!! I just broke under the 300 mark last week so I know the feeling! Keep up the good work, you are doing GREAT!

I Need Some Encouragement
PattyGirl66 replied to tattoomommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup! I am pretty sure we all have second guessed ourselves. Its pretty normal to have these kinds of feelings. Thats just it, how many more times do we have to suffer dieting and failing before we just do it! If I had not went through with this, I am pretty sure I would of been 400 lbs, no seriously.... You are making the right choice if you have made it here -
I eat mini whole wheat bagels toasted, whole wheat breads, and thomas' english muffins (all toasted) I am fine as long as its toasted. I like to keep my breads in the toaster oven and get it crunchy by just letting it cook a little longer. Whole wheat pita breads are great sliced in halfs and toasted. You should have no problems with eating toasted breads at all.
