The Definition Of Restriction?
PattyGirl66 replied to Sultan Dablool's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have no fill, but yet I feel restriction. I am satisfied between 3-4 hours after a meal. To me, I like the restriction I get from my band. I mean, before the band I would eat an hour after every meal..... -
Sending good vibes you way!!!!!

Listen, you have to ask "your" surgeon.... I was surprised to find out right after surgery I was able to go into a swimming pool in just a week.

Hi Polly, I haven't used any lemon juices, however I think about 1 tsp. to a 8 ounce glass wold be sufficient. Only because i squeezed one of my lemon wedges into a teaspoon and that is what I got, - hope that was helpful! Ya know, I am not concerned about the tooth enamel because i am not eating the lemon directly onto my teeht, and like Floridays said we would have to be eating many many lemons daily. I am not concerned now.

My favorite mushy foods: Part skim ricottia cheese, topped with tomato sauce and grated parmasagne cheese. Nuke it up in the microwave . taste like a noodleless lasagne. Canned tuna (white albacore in water) 2 oz. mixed with 1 wedge of laughing cow lite cheese Refried Beans ( 2 oz.) topped with shredded reduced fat yellow cheese, dopple of lite sour cream - in the microwave - mmmm Fresh avacado (2-3 oz) topped with Mango Salsa ahhh, there are just so many things you can do with mushy......

Its the size of the band placed around your stomache. Depending on your surgeon they determine the size of yourwhile operating, so your surgeon decided that a size 9 would work best for you I have a size 11cc band around my stomache...

PS: I remember attending a Weight Watchers class a long time ago and woman there hit a plateau for weeks. I clearly remember the leader saying to her "instead of eating a half banana eat the whole thing", Instead of 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, 2 tablespoons.. she was refereing to 'uping' her fat intake. Sure enough the next week at her weigh in, she lost 5 lbs! Moral is we have to play around too see what works for us in order to jumpstart our bodies function...

I also agree with Mis73. I honestly think our bodies need to be 'tricked' or 'tweaked' every now and then. If my weight starts to slow or even stand still I up my calories and keep a good eye on my 'fat' grams making sure I am getting enough of both to burn fat. I track everything, my 'main' nutrients I want to see daily is my: Calories, Fat, Fiber, Carbs and Protein. Healthy fat is very important and you can eat a lot of calories and realize your fat grams are very low, you won't burn. Example: If you are eating a lot of foods 'fat free', you might want to make sure you are getting adequate healthy fats in your diet daily. I choose foods that are 'light', 'reduced', 1 % or 2%. If my fat grams has reached its quota, I usually would go to fat free, that is why its important to track everything.

How Is The Lap Bank
PattyGirl66 replied to ccbaxter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first step in educating yourself about the Lapband surgery is to register for a weight loss seminar and attend. You can do this by searching 'bariatric surgeons' in your area. By asking questions and listening to the surgeons, this will give you plenty of information hands on. If you are just curious, you can read through the threads on this forum of what people are saying about it, looking at their weight loss history, journey, etc. You can also 'google' lapband surgery. There is so much knowledge out there about it.. Best of luck, -

Can Not Tolerate Protein Drinks!!!!!
PattyGirl66 replied to Lmi346's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't drink the ready made Protein drinks either. In fact, the only thing that saved me early on after surgery was 'UNFLAVORED Protein Powder" I would mix that in my chicken broth mostly, Soups, and add it in to my mushy foods. Once I started on solids I completely stopped using protein in my drinks and food. I get all my protein from foods now, "my" surgeon said to me yesterday that is the whole point is to get off the dependency of protein powders and drinks and get protein from 'real' food. Unflavored protein powder can also be used in making your own shakes. Fresh fruit, skim milk, and ice cubes with added unflavored protein powder. You will really have to keep experimenting... -
Post Op Stomach Pain
PattyGirl66 replied to angkinna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, pain associated with straining and pushing for BM. Please if you are feeling any sorts of pain in the chest area you should always contact your doctor. I have been straining myself for weeks when my symptoms occured. Has your pain gone away since you rested after cleaning? You have to listen to your body when symptoms occur, take notes if you can when they exactly happen. You could of exerted yourself. If you are recently out from surgery you should be taking it easy so your new stomache can heal. Let us know how you are doing -

Gastric Sleeve Or Lap Band??
PattyGirl66 replied to Lindsey Toppila's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Lindsey, To be very honest, this is a touchy subject only because not one person can tell you what weight loss surgery is the best. Ultimately, the decision does become your own personal choice and reason why you 'chose' to have that particular surgery. For many of us we did a lot of research 0n all 3 weight loss surgeries and weighed our 'own' options. Its a personal preference why one chooses one over the other. Sorry I can't be of any help to you on this topic its really one you have to research on your own, attending a weight loss seminar in your area would be a great start. Then google, then youtube. My 3 recommendations. Best of luck in whatever decision you make -
Congratulations April!!! Yes, from what I hear at times after losing a lot of weight you will plateau! Now what you have to do is start playing around with your calories and fat grams. You can try 'uping' your calories one day, going back to your normal caloric intake and then try it again over to see if that works. How many fat grams are you getting in per day? Remember the body needs healthy fat to burn! I try and get between 25-30 grams of healthy fat per day (according to my age and weight). Also, remember Protein is always first and important to burn fat as well. Have you tried tracking everything you eat daily?? if not you should do so, there are several wonderful apps out there such as "myfitnesspal" and 'Loseit (my personal fav). Its really the only way you will know how much you are eating on a daily basis so that you can adjust and tweak to make it work. Best of luck,

First Appointment With The Surgeon . I Weigh What ??
PattyGirl66 replied to duncanrum's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last year in January I weighed 289. In March I weighed 304. In April at my doctors office I weighed 310. I went back in October for a check up and weighed 367!!! I sat there and cried my eyes out, my PCP hugged me and said stop being hard on yourself and lets do something about it. Of course, I had blood work that following week which he discovered my thyroid was a little off. The next day I made an appointement to go to a seminar for weight loss surgery. It has really changed so many things about myself and the way I look at food. The race is deff. on!!!!
