Is It Ok To "tweek" Your Dr's Diet Plan
PattyGirl66 replied to Joy1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Summerain exactly! I eat 'healthy' good carbs and fresh fruits. I feel soooo much better now then when I was depriving myself from very good carbs. My skin looks great, I have more energy, and the best part ,,, I am going to the bathroom regularly now, whereas before 'excluding' healthy carbs like fresh fruits and breads, I was severly constipated. You live and learn on how to treat your bodies along the way.. I choose to take the 'healthy' route and not make myself sick and try and combat 'other' health problems along the way by not eating good carbs. -
Does Biotin Really Help Hair Loss???
PattyGirl66 replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Biotin is very good for your hair, skin, and nails. The breakdown for biotin is that it converts carbs into glucose and fat, and amino acids into Protein. To answer your question, yes Biotin is very good for your hair. It helps with shine and brittleness (less breakage). It gives the hair more luster and less splitends. On a personal note: I started taking Biotin 7 months before surgery so that I could combat any hair loss. It does work don't get me wrong, but my hair is falling out due to the rapid weight loss with the combination of anesthesia. This is temporary and many weight loss patients experience this. Some are lucky not to have any loss of hair, and some even claim their hair grew back thicker. Don't panic, new hair will grow. Remember it is temporary. I tell myself this every day while my hair is falling out. My hair is growing because I had to have a haircut. You will notice less breakage as the weeks/months go by. Anything else you can do to prevent this. NO, medically speaking there isn't. You can use shampoos specifically for hair breakage that could help. Keep taking the biotin pills it will help tremendously. Hope this was helpful, -
Am I Eating Too Much?
PattyGirl66 replied to oladad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I would also mix unflavored Protein powder in it as well. That goes for cottage cheese too (2%) I would also put a dollop of ricotta cheese in my tomato soup or I would put a little sauce on it with a little parmasagne cheese and put it the microwave. Believe me I became very creative during the mushy stages, LOL. -
Does The Pouch "grind?"
PattyGirl66 replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jennybee girlfriend!!! OH that sounds so weird, grinding. Hmmm, I don't think you should have any kind of pain at all hon, not even slight. Perhaps just a tiny unfill? How much did they put in your band this time? -
Is It Ok To "tweek" Your Dr's Diet Plan
PattyGirl66 replied to Joy1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is an interesting article done about high Protein and carbohydrates. BTW, I eat carbs daily and lost a considerable amount of weight. My theory is this: If I was to completely remove carbs from my lifestyle, I know that it would be temporary because realistically I know once I got the taste for it, I would go back to old habits and binge eat, thus probably gaining all of my weight back or not losing at all... Are high-protein diets safe for weight loss? Answer from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. For most healthy people, a high-protein diet generally isn't harmful if followed for a short time, such as six months or less, and may help with weight loss. However, the risks of using a high-protein diet with carbohydrate restriction for the long term are still being studied. Several health problems may result if a high-protein diet is followed for an extended time: Some high-protein diets restrict carbohydrate intake so much that they can result in nutritional deficiencies or insufficient Fiber, which can cause health problems such as constipation and diverticulitis. Some high-protein diets promote foods such as red meat and full-fat dairy products, which may increase your risk of heart disease. A high-protein diet may worsen kidney function in people with kidney disease because your body may have trouble eliminating all the waste products of protein metabolism. If you want to follow a high-protein diet, do so only as a short-term weight-loss aid. Also, choose your protein wisely. Good choices include fish, skinless chicken, lean beef, pork and low-fat dairy products. Choose carbs that are high in fiber, such as whole grains and nutrient-dense vegetables and fruit. It's always a good idea to talk with your doctor before starting a weight-loss diet. And that's especially important in this case if you have kidney disease, diabetes or other chronic health condition. Finally, keep in mind that weight loss may be temporary, especially if you return to your previous way of eating. -
Am I Eating Too Much?
PattyGirl66 replied to oladad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mashed potatoes and ricotta cheese were my 2 favorite mushy foods. I couldnt eat no more than a 1/4 of cup of food per meal during this stage anyway, I guess that was a good thing. -

OMG I know.. but honestly, looking back it does make sense about carbs. I went to my tracker back in september and saw my carb range was under 50 grams a day - Now, for the whole month of october my carb grams jumped to about 110-125 almost every single day. Mind you my weight was flying off of me in september and took a stall in October... -

Hanna, you are still within your low carb range. 0-50 is low carb. You can still do dinner tonight with a meat and veggie. scroll up, I listed tons of low carb foods on this thread. You got lettuce?? wrap up a few tuna rolls with it, you can be creative and add cream cheese with crabmeat, roasted red peppers, chives. You can even do this with deli sliced thin ham, turkey, or chicken breast. You can deff. do this there are tons of options. I am on day 2 as well on Low carb. Example: for dinner tonight I am having 4 oz. of a turkey pattie- 1/4 cup green Beans - 1/4 cup mushrooms - 2 tsp. smart balance lite butter. My calories are 200, my carb is 4.1 . Thats it! YOU can soooo do this! PS: (i am sauteing the mushrooms in the lite butter). -
Fantastic job! Whatever it is your doing is working out just fine I would say

I can tell you one thing my stomache is making some pretty LOUD noises, hahaaaaa.
