Help?!?!?!?!?!? This Is Not A Good Thing
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to blackanese25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your old insurance about follow up care and also call your doctor’s office and see if they won’t offer you a sliding scale fallow up appointment. Don’t get down on yourself for a 6 pound loss that is very good! It sounds to me like you need to find a support group that you can go to in person to help you stay on track and stay motivated. -

I know how you feel. The scale is difficult for me to handle so I try to limit when I use it and stay focused on all the positive changes that are taking place in my body and life. Try to find the NSV out there for you. Also you may want to start a measurement log, to track your inches. Good luck, and know that the weight will come off! -

Washington Post Article On Women's Body Images
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to Kris's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I liked the article and agree that historically we (African American women) have been flooded with images of what is considered ideal or the standard of beauty in America, such as long blond hair or having blue eyes, and few of us could relate to or achieve these standards, and so we have overtime had to establish our own standard of beauty and have embraced our features. And while there is no one standard body type for African American women, I think that on average African American women tend to be curvier, or “thicker”. With all of this being said I do think that it is important that in today’s society that we address obesity and living at a healthy weight as a health issue and not just as a cultural standard of beauty. While African American woman embrace our curves we also need to deal with the facts that diabetes is a leading cause of death among middle-aged African-American women, and African-American women develop high blood pressure earlier in life and have higher average blood pressures compared with white women and that African American women face a higher risk for sleep apnea compared with white women. Curvy is one thing and Obesity is another. I think we all need to embrace our body types and love them pear-shaped apple-shaped whatever, and trust me I know this is easier said than done. -

The Good The Bad And The Ugly
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to Itsanewdaycassandra's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So after feeling bad about myself and not allowing myself to be happy for the 3 pound loss as I should. I took the weekend to meet with a trainer and have set up a new exercise plan that I will start tonight after work. I am starting to work on the elliptical and strength training, I will still be doing the swim aerobics twice a week and my do a yoga class now and again, but I am focusing on the elliptical for the month of March. Thanks for listing to me and my pity party I just need to really get a grip with this number issue. I refuse to feel badly for any amount of weight that I lose from now on! Thank you all for your support! -
I just came back for my doctor’s appointment, and as a few of you know I only weigh in with my doctor because I tend to either reward or neglect myself depend on if I am happy with what is on the scale. My goal has always been to focus on health and not just the amount of pounds lost (even though I am always happy to drop a lot of weight!) So here are my numbers so far. 12/1/11 287 1/3/12 260 2/10/12 249 2/24/12 246 Total loss since surgery 41 pounds I am down 3 pounds at this weigh in and I have mixed feelings about this. I’m happy for the loss, but my first reaction is really only 3 pounds?!?!? I need another way to look at this situation so I am reaching out to my community. Thanks!

1st yoga class tonight and Ihope that I don’t look like a total fool. This has been a goal of mine for years and now that I have less weight and my joints don’t hurt I thought I’d try it. That being said, I am fearful of being the big woman in the class and the looks and whatnots, I guess I’ll just have to get over it. Thanks for letting me vent. I love this group!

Easter Challenge!
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to Forensikchic's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Forensichick, Maybe you are right, I’ll take your lead on this one. It would be better to set a goal I can meet rather than be disappointed. I will aim for 20 instead. I really want to enjoy some of the summer under 200 that would just be so wonderful so long term that is what I am aiming for but for this challenge I’ll be happy at 20. -

December 2011 Sleevers Update
Itsanewdaycassandra replied to ChunkyAndFluffy75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shea, It’s nice to see where everyone is in this group. I sometimes feel like I should be losing more but then again I am just so darn happy to be moving down instead of up in weight I can stand it! I am looking forward to the 18’s and if I can be in a 16 or 14 by my birthday at the end of April that would be out of this world! Keep up the good work, take the steps that you need to be successful!
