Root Canal Before Vsg?
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Hadouni! I may go ahead and get it. I think I'm worried because the tooth is somewhat infected and I'm on antibiotics to get rid of the infection before the root canal on Tuesday. I am scared that it will hurt really bad when they do the root canal if there is any infection left. I know I can't get surgery with an infected tooth so i think I should go ahead with the root canal and just get some sort of non-NSAID medication to deal with the pain. I am only taking amoxicillin for the infection now. -
Finally Have A Date But...now I'm Unsure
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Tai29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations you all! I think I understand the nervousness. My worries are different. My surgery date is on 2/3 and I'm more worried about problems pre op than post op! Isn't that weird? I worry what if my heart rate or blood pressure shoots up or something crazy happens and I don't get the sleeve. I have these thoughts of coming home from my trip bawling my eyes out with no sleeve. So weird. I do worry a little about post op complications but not too much. -
Surgery On 2/2/12 Some Panic Waves
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to lazzareschi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is the day after yours and I can hardly stand the wait. I feel like I'm pregnant and I'm in the last month and every day drags by as you get more and more excited and nervous about having the baby! This is exactly how I feel. I am trying to keep my mind off of it but it's nearly impossible. I'm not working right now and so I have way too much time on my hands. I've been working out more and getting ready but i'm driving my husband insane. I think the waiting is the worst part of it all. -
A New Pressing Issue..
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to yecats's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just an awkward situation. My cousin's wife went to Mexico to get surgery and she actually went on a co worker's recommendation because of her experience in mexico. No one gave her a hard time. I am sure that the lady just may feel somewhat insecure because she will likely still be large and you will not. That can make people feel insecure. I feel bad for her in a way but she shouldn't take it out on you. You deserve to be supported in a sensitive time like this. Losing weight drastically is an emotional process. I think you should sit and talk to her and tell her that you need positive support during this time and the decision has already been made. Tell her you thank her for her concern but if she has nothing nice to say, do not say it at all because it could affect your recovery. If she respects you at all, she will listen to you an do as you ask. If she is not going to be supportive, just hold your head up high and smile. The best revenge is living well. Or maybe the best idea is just not to bring it up to her at all if she continues to be rude. I wish you the best. -
Hey Skinny Lady Considering Surgery With Heart Condition! Where Did You Go?
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Dooter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys would be surprised how many thin bandsters I've seen on the web who get the sleeve revision because they can't stand their bands anymore. I really don't see any fault in that. the band can cause many severe health problems. Of course, if she has bad heart problems, I'm just not sure how smart this is. She really should talk to the surgeon before she gets it performed. -
Fatigue...when Does It End After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Lisa821's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am worried about the fatigue too. I already tire easily because of diabetes so I know I'm going to be extremely exhausted after the sleeve. I hope my husband doesn't get too frustrated. I am hoping once the excess weight is shed I will be much more energetic. I am hoping that you will be more energetic too once you incur more weight loss. -

Cancer Survivor, 1/16/12 Vsg Surgery, Reflux
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to gmanbat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you will be fine! I would gladly take a little reflux over being overweight and diabetic any day. I am diabetic too and although it's not bad now, I do worry it could be bad later. I know you can do it! And congrats on beating cancer! That is inspiring! -

Are You Telling People That Your Having This Surgery?
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to kcsmicah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have told my parents and my husband and no one else. My parents were pretty supportive and I know my Dad is worried about me. I have diabetes type 2 and I'm only 35 and my BMI is 38. I just found out about the diabetes. It scared me into doing this surgery because I need to get my weight under control ! My brother and sister were both pre-diabetic in their 20's! I should have known it would catch up with me. My younger sister had gastric bypass several years ago because she was scared of the diabetes. My mom is diabetic and has had terrible control and it scares me. I don't want those complications when I get older. I may tell my children but my teenage daughter is overweight and I'm worried that she will feel insecure or upset. Maybe this will motivate her because she loves junk food (I can't control it--she drives around with friends and they buy McDonalds etc) and hates exercise. I am thinking about just telling her I am losing weight by cutting calories and exercising (which is true) and this will motivate her. But I will not pressure her into losing weight because I know that it can cause life long struggles. Anyway, I don't know if I will tell anyone else. I know my parents may tell a few family members but I am probably not going to tell anyone else. -
I am 35 and I am going to get sleeved on Feb 3rd. I am extremely nervous. I haven't had general anesthesia since I was 19 so I have no idea how I'm going to react. The only medication I've had is an epidural when I gave birth and a local anesthetic. I am just nervous about everything and waiting 3 more weeks is going to drive me nuts I guess!

HEY TEXAS SLEEVERS!!!
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Heather~ Sweetdreams's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys! I'm from the Killeen/ Temple/ Waco area and I am so nervous you guys! I have surgery on 2/3 and this waiting game is KILLING me. Sooo nervous about anesthesia and surgery. I haven't had general anesthesia since I was 19 years old so I'm super scared. The only thing I've had is a local aneshetic and then I had an epidural when I gave birth (does that count?) lol. I don't know if I can contain the nerves. I just want to get it over -
Hey guys ! I live in Killeen and my surgery date is 2/3/2012. I am soooo nervous and excited and scared. Have a lot of fear about the anesthesia. I haven't had general anesthesia in 16 years! Very nervous and worried about the pre op tests once I arrive at the hospital. I just want to get it done and the anticipation is killing me!

Feeling So Very Alone In My Journey With No Friends.
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Lilu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I will be having surgery on 2/3/2012 so around the same time you will be. If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to message me. I don't mind. We will be starting on this journey around the same time and I know that that can help. -
Hello all, I'm researching vsg and also plication. Plication sounds interesting and like a good wls but I noticed that there is a complication called necrosis. If I did choose plication and say, worst case scenario, I have a complication such as necrosis. Does this mean that the sutures must be taken out and the stomach returned to normal? Has anyone had to have their surgery reversed due to complications? I would appreciate any replies as I am definitely going to get one of these procedures but I am wondering what happens if there is a complication. I know the sleeve has complications as well. Thank you for any replies.

Mexico surgery if your not to tired to share.
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to silverpelican's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Kelly M, your post has really inspired me. I am newly diagnosed as type 2 diabetic and I'm 35. It scares me to have it so young and I'm around 220 lbs right now. It's the heaviest I've ever been. Not pleased at all. Told my husband i want to get weight loss surgery (VSG) and he is supportive. He's sick of seeing me cry about my weight and issues. You are affirming my choice to have the sleeve. I am planning on going in Feb for surgery. -
Warning<< Gastric Sleeve Surgery Failure Dr Rod
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to kacee109's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel so horrible about what happened to you. It's awful that you had the plication and it failed. I wish you all of the best. I can't imagine going through this and having nothing to show for it. It makes me feel awful. I know how hard it is to lose weight and wls is usually the last resort. I can't believe that your hope has been drained. I really hope another surgeon reads about your problems and offers to help. Good luck. -
Lap Band Or Gastric Sleeve Surgery...losing My Mind
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to tamou37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I absolutely agree with most of the people recommending sleeve over band. I have been reading a lot of reports of doctors refusing to do the lap band because of the high risk of problems. I've looked on youtube and seen countless videos of people who never get restriction with the band, people who have to get their band taken off due to a leak or erosion and getting the sleeve instead. If you are going to get a surgery, go for something permanent! Why would you want to have to potentially get weight loss surgery twice? Double the expense, and double the heart break. I've seen several videos about people gaining both half or all of their weight due to the issues. And another thing, when you are done with the sleeve surgery, you are DONE. There are no fills you have to get and no added expenses for traveling for those fills. In my eyes, the sleeve is a NO BRAINER. The success rates have been phenomenal. -
I Absolutely Cannot Wait For My Gastric Sleeve Surgery!
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to Selena Smith Davis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh I know how you feel. I feel awful because my husband has been begging me to take a family portrait and for the last several years I have refused. I hate how I look in pictures and it's not just my body, it's my face too. So I can't hide behind my kids in the pictures and have a pretty face. It's just too big. I hate it. I am glad that you are getting the sleeve. I am planning on getting mine very soon. I promised my husband a family portrait next year when I lose this weight. I remember being able to wear a size 8 when I was in my 20's but I haven't been under 200 lbs in 5 years. I've lost weight off and on but it always seems to come right back and this diet roller coaster is too much for me. I want to lose it permanently and one and for all and I plan on letting the sleeve be my tool in a true lifestyle change that means NO MORE roller coasters for me. I am going to lose it all and maintain it! -
Sleep Study Problems.
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to horsegirl315's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am somewhat confused about the sleep study. If you have sleep apnea or a sleep disorder, wouldn't they think that weight loss surgery would help with that? I don't understand. Did they tell you what "failing" means? Does that mean if you have a sleep disorder you can't get lapband? -
Really- How Long Will The Lap Band Last?
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to kelmelmom24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I am new here. I just wanted to post that I am scared of the band. I have heard so many stories of slippage and erosion. I wouldn't want to pay for the lap band and then have to pay to get the sleeve, which is what I would do. I am thinking I will probably get the sleeve just because I don't want to get the lap band and have something happen and have to pay to get the sleeve. Since the sleeve is about the same price as the lap band, I think it would be my best bet. I am still a little on the line. I have seen so many people do well with the lap band and then I've seen so many others do well with the sleeve. Bypass is too extreme for me. I am not THAT overweight, about 220 lbs but I do have a comorbidity. I am planning on going to Mexico for surgery and I need to make up my mind. It is so scary. I think the lap band is a nice tool in theory, but the slippage and erosion/leaks have me scared. I wouldn't want to go through TWO weight loss surgeries.
