    Failed Almanza Sleeve

Vickie, please update us on how you are doing now. I have been thinking about you ever since your surgery in late Feb. Did you get a resleeve or a resleeve with duodenal switch? I would love to know how you are doing. I am worried about you. Just know that I care! My prayers have been going your way -Misty

    Serious Debate On Post-Op Dieting

I think that as long as the majority of your food choices are healthy, there is nothing wrong with a treat now and then. As long as you don't sit around eating unhealthy foods all the time. There IS a reason people regain after the sleeve. The farther out you are, the more you can eat. And if you fall back into old eating habits, at least some of that weight will come back. I've seen it happen time and time again.

Why Did You Choose Sleeve Vs Gastric Bypass?

Hey there I agree with the others about the malabsoprtion and malnutrition. Just the idea of dealing with that and feeling sick from it with two little kids made it unappealing. I didn't want to deal with the serious complications of that either. Going to the doctor constantly for that would just suck. Also, the less invasive of the two surgeries is the gastric sleeve. It's less complicated, and the stats show that the complications and chance of death are much lower with the sleeve than with the bypass. These things made my decision easy. I do agree with the others who say that the weight loss is fairly close, especially 2 years out. Perhaps the excess weight loss is greater overall in the first year with the bypass but by year 2 it seems to be close to the same. That is a good indicator! :-)
  8. Just let them know you are doing this for them too. You want to be healthier and live a longer life for you and all of your loved ones. Trust me, it can be only a short matter of time before your health starts to decline. I'm only 35 and my BMI was between 37 and 38 when I found out I had diabetes type 2. It can happen to anyone at any age and not even necessarily someone with a large BMI. Just tell them it will benefit everyone in the long run. My family was a little scared but they never really made me feel bad about it. Just go in to surgery with faith and smiling. If they see you aren't scared, maybe they will ease up a bit.
  9. Big hugs to you. I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart.

    My Story So Far (Long)

I know this isn't on your plan, but is there any way you can eat some mushies or purees? Many other doctors approve it for those about 3 weeks out. I know it helped me feel much better. I had the weakness/dizzy spells too and that it what helped me get out of it. Also, I make sure I drink tons of water. I sincerely hope you start feeling better. I work online and take college courses online as well and that is probably the only reason I was able to handle everything. Even with taking college online, it was still a bit hard. I was having a hard time concentrating to write perfect APA format papers for my professors and my grades did suffer a bit at first. I hope things get better for you.
  11. I definitely see jealousy in a comment like that. Or someone who just wants to make you feel less good about your accomplishments in order to make themselves feel superior. It's like some sort of oneupsmanship. It's people like that who loved to start drama in high school and never grew out of it. Stupid is as stupid does.

Finally - 8 Week Stall Is Over! (I Hope!)

Way to go! an 8 week stall is definitely a test of patience but you are doing this. Bless you for your perserverance. You are on your way to onederland--I just know it!!
  13. Hey I can relate. I can eat a full chicken breast about 3 oz and some veggies with absolutely no problem. I am 2 months out as well. I feel I can eat more than I should but that is what it takes to fill me up. Hopefully we are ok and on our way to weight loss. I have no idea and like you, I'm a little scared.

1 Year On I Am Gaining Weight

Can you elaborate a little bit? You lost around 20 kilos and have gained 10 kilos back, is that right? What are fabricated grehlin glands? I am very confused about that. Thank you for sharing your story by the way. The gastric sleeve is great but I know there are some who struggle more than others. That is what we are here for. No one is going to put you down. Keep your head up. My question is: Can you stop the soda drinking now? Are you addicted to them again? I know how tempting a soda is. I was hooked on them before surgery and haven't had any in a couple of months. But you are a year out so I know it must be hard.

    Greetings From Tijuana!

Shaundra, if you have a sleeve that didn't work for you, have you considered the duodenal switch? It's usually the last resort if the sleeve doesn't work. I know you are already lower BMI but if you are going to have a surgery again, just be smart about it. The DS has a higher success of keeping the weight off long term over the gastric bypass. Please just discuss this with the surgeon as an option. The re-sleeve might work, I have no idea. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

    Hypocrites

Ohhh my women can be so catty. It is one thing I hate about my own gender. I find it absolutely disgusting to be around catty or backstabbing people, which is why I only have a few friends. I feel like it's such a waste of time and energy. This is why I love working from home and not dealing with catty female co-workers. All I can say is just smile and hold your head up when they say something annoying. Sometimes I think the best thing to do is to say nothing at all and simply grin. If they see it doesn't bother you in the least, it will either shut them up or piss them off enough to stew and wallow in their own jealousy.

    Oldest Sleeve?

I spoke to a lady on another forum who was sleeved in 2007! She said she is doing well, feeling fine, and maintaining. Best of luck :-)

    Hostility? Why?

Forensikchik, people who don't want to hear about your journey, are just close minded. I have practically begged a few times for those who are further out to answer my questions not just on here but other wls forums. I guess i can see why they get frustrated now. It really upsets me. I firmly believe that we should keep as many vets around as possible. It is so important to those about to go have vsg or those who are just post op and struggling. Newbies only should not answer. Vets are invaluable in my opinion and highly important. I love to hear from people further out than me whether their opinions may not be what I want to hear. Knowledge is power, people. Thank you Forensikchik for your contributions and never think that they aren't welcome or appreciated.

    So Fustrated

I had a near fainting episode a few weeks ago that scared the crap out of me. I drank as much water as possible and finally felt better. You could be dehydrated. Your blood pressure could have been low. As far as going to urgent care, that is up to you. If you don't feel better then I would go. Good luck and I hope you feel better
  23. Sleeved&Hopeful

    Wow!

That's great! I recently met a lady who was passing on all of her food over to her husband after having gastric bypass and he had packed on 75 lbs in the year since her surgery! It could have gone the other direction!

    Ekg Omg

This happens more than you think. It could be absolutely nothing, but they are covering their bases. Many times, it really is nothing. The cardiologist may do a stress test and etc and then say your heart is perfect. Even if there is a issue, you can still probably get approved for surgery if there is a treatment plan in place. If you can get in to see the cardiologist quickly, it shouldn't set back your surgery date. I have seen a few people get their surgery dates set back by waiting on cardiology clearance. Just make sure you get in to see the cardiologist ASAP and stay on top of them to send the clearance over to your surgeon immediately.

    Week 7! Very Slow Loser

Hey there guys. Are you all low BMI folks? I mean that could easily explain the slower weight loss. Usually those under a 40 BMI lose slower than others. Just curious :-) Keep your head up.
