Help! Weird Lap Band Fill Experience -- Normal?
Julie G. replied to WhitewolfCO's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In Ontario, my "fill nurse" does the fill while patients are standing up. She's very good....not matter what position the port is in, she manages to fill it in 1 try. Then we are sent to the waiting room to drink water. If we can't drink a cup in the next 20 minutes or so, she calls you back and de-fills a little bit. By the way, in Toronto, my surgeon, Dr. Yau, who works for Slimband, no longer stitches the port into place. I'm not sure why...I think it has to do with our body changing as we lose lots of weight. So our ports tend to move around....but rarely flip completely. Should it totally flip, the doctor can fix it with a local anesthetic and a local incision. Thanks for telling me about this method....I'll be prepared in case I try to get a fill in the Daytona area while I'm on holiday. -
Help!!! I Cant Swallow My Spit After 4th Lap Band Fill!
Julie G. replied to beccaboolane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there, Try a warm drink to relax your stomach...like tea. (Off the record.....you could try a bit of wine...that always worked for me....) When I first got my band, 9 years ago, what you experienced happened to me at least twice. My band was not damaged in any way. Believe it or not, throwing up affected my teeth.....the acidity from throwing up made my teeth prone to cavities ...which is what my dentist said. So I quickly learned how to avoid throwing up. Best of luck, -
Omg! I Was Filled On 11/11 Got Very Tight On 11/27!
Julie G. replied to Sharon1222's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there, I was just banded in November for the second time; but I have 9 years of experience with an Inamed band (Allergan bought our the Inamed company.) In my experience, almost always, the band tightens up due to stress. Many people tighten up their shoulders from stress; likewise many people tighten up their stomach due to stress. For me, when teaching....during lunchtime, if the other teachers were talking negatively about their students or their day, I had trouble swallowing and could only drink soup. However, if the atmosphere in the lunch room was calm or positive, I had no trouble eating my regular protein loaded lunch. Think of when your band tightened.....were you experiencing stress at that time? One way to relieve the stress in the stomach is to drink a warm drink like tea. Alcohol, though not recommended, also does the trick. LOL. Best of luck, Julie G. in Ontario, Canada -

Canadian Rebanded Nov, 2011; On My 2nd Weight Loss Journey
Julie G. posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I'm a retired teacher living in rural Ontario. I was first banded in 2002 in Toronto, at Scarborough Grace Hospital by Dr. P. Yau. I received an Inamed lapband. (Inamed was later bought out by Allergan.) Although many had much luck with the Inamed band, some, like me, had disconnection issues -- that it, the connecting tube disconnects from the band itself. I disconnected 4 times in the space of 9 years.....each time my doctor had to re-operate to reconnect me. After my fourth disconnect, my doctor, who now works only for The Slimband Clinic in Toronto, replaced my faulty band with a new Slimband lapband on November 8th, 2011. I have just had my first fill. Before my first disconnect, I lost 76 pounds and managed to barely get below 200 lbs. But with all the disconnections and the waiting times to be re-connected, I gained back 34 lbs of the 76. So I am really excited to be back on my weight loss journey again. I will be in Florida from Jan-mid March...and looking for a fill doctor in the Daytona. area. Thanks. Julie. -
Lap Band Fill Doctors In Daytona, Florida Area Plz
Julie G. posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I am a banded Canadian who is "snowbird" wannabe.......real Canadian snowbirds go to Southern Florida and stay for 6 months! I will be vacationing in the Daytona / New Smyrna Beach area in Jan + Feb, 2011. I am looking for a fill doctor who will fill or de-fill me -- even though I was banded in Toronto, Ontario. Could you please let me know the name, location and cost of the fill or de-fill and whether it is done with or without a fluoroscopy. Thanks very much, Julie G. from Bancroft, Ontario, Canada
