Does anyone know how long it takes for state health insurance to approve gastric bypass surgery? I go for my second 2 hour long pre-op appointment and I meet my surgeon. Now they are either going to schedule my surgery then get approval from my insurance or get approval from my insurance then schedule my surgery date. I have Vermont state health insurance and they said it could take awhile. Anyone know?

I Have Lost All Focus Completely.... :(
Krystyneh replied to Jessica89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It will get better I'm 25 and I'm trying to stay on track so I can keep up with my 4 year old daughter and 10 year old step daughter and my husband. I have cheated a few times also. I find out Thursday when my surgery is and they said I should have surgery by August 1st hopefully. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing this. Also what I have found has helped me and post pictures of yourself at your heaviest all around your house especially in the kitchen. I did that and when I want ice cream or cake I see those pictures and I automatically get nauseas and grab a piece of fruit. It'll get better once your surgery date gets closer keep your head up -

The program that I'm going through does have a support group but it takes 2-2 1/2 hours to drive there one way. I'm trying to find one closer to my house but I'm just thankful for this group. Reading everyone's stories and hearing about their surgery and what they have gone through has helped calm my nerves a little bit except for this whole drainage tube thing lol I hope that I don't need one but if I do then I do. I'm excited that I only have 6 days left until I meet my surgeon I'm hoping I find out then when my surgery date is
-
Oh I'll be supporting u also how did your surgery go? Did u have tubes afterwards or no? I'm nervous about if I'm going to have tubes coming out of me or not lol
-

Meeting With Dr Net Week.
Krystyneh replied to gwhite48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi and welcome I'm also new to this website (well I was actually in lapbandtalk but switched to gastric bypass) and I also meet my surgeon on the 14th -
Thanks sooo much I will definitely be emailing you. I have support from friends and family but no one that has really gone through the surgery that has gone through the same things that I have. I mean my husband's aunt (who's in her 60s now I believe) had it but that was 5-6 years ago and her experience was a lot more different because of her age lol. I've had a total of 5 miscarriages :'( I had one before I had our daughter, then I was raped by an ex-boyfriend, ended up pregnant then miscarried that one, miscarried again in 2009 then 2 last year. Everyone asks why I'm going for surgery now instead of when I'm in my 30s and 40s lol HELLO I WANT TO STILL BE YOUNG WHEN I HAVE MORE CHILDREN lol I'm only 25 (I just turned 25 on April 1st). I also want to be able to run with my daughter and to keep up with her lol.

Thanks so far it's been fast because there's only 2 weeks between my first appointment and my second appointment and meeting my surgeon. the program that I'm going through usually has you attending 4-5 appointments before you even meet your surgeon but I'm very thankful that I got the green light and can meet my surgeon after my second appointment

I go in for my first pre-op visit on Thursday YAY but I did 6 months with a nutritionist prior to my appoinment. It all depends on insurance and the program u go through

No Restriction-One Month
Krystyneh replied to bunnyovdeth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't been banded yet (hopefully in June or July I just scheduled my first pre-op appointment for Thursday at 10am) and I was told by many people I personally know that have been banded that restriction takes time...most said it took them anywhere from 7months-2 years before they got restriction and 25% of people that I know that are banded haven't hit restriction and they are filled to capacity...good luck -
I Just Scheduled My First Pre-Op Appointment :)
Krystyneh posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sooo excited next Thursday at 10am I have my first appointment and it's 2 hours long. Afterwards I have to have my blood drawn because my doctor's office didn't do 3 other tests GRRR but that's okay and I then schedule my second appointment I'm sooo excited that I can't stop smiling. I've been on my journey for 9 months so far (I know it doesn't seem that long) and I'm sooo excited that soon I'll be having surgery -

Krystyneh replied to Krystyneh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh that's great I don't need any of that...I guess each place has their own Tests that they want done lol...I had to do a lot of stuff before I could even get my first appointment...my insurance demanded me seeing a nutritionist for 6 months before surgery and on top of that Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (the hospital where I'm going through their Bariatric program) has a whole packet of stuff that needs to be completed...they used to want a patient to lose 15 pounds before surgery...well in October I was 315 pounds and I'm currently 263 pounds I think I hit that even tho they now only go by if ur insurance wants u to lose a certain about of weight...food luck on ur journey let me know when ur surgery date is and maybe we can be lap band buddies if it's the same day -

Thanks I'm sooo excited I can't even stop smiling lol I just hope I can have surgery next month or in July does it move fast after the first appointment? I hope so -
So I was wondering if any of you knew approximately how long it takes to get your first appointment after they get all of your information. They should have finished getting all of mine almost 2 weeks ago. I'm impatiently waiting because I want to be banded already lol

First Pre-Op Appointment
Krystyneh replied to Krystyneh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
they finally sent me an email back and she told me that once they receive all of my records then I will have my first appointment within a week or two weeks. I got a hold of my doctor's office and they just kept faxing my pap smear order and not the results IDIOTS!!! so yesterday they finally sent the correct paper and I also got a hold of my therapist yesterday. She finally faxed my 2 psychological evaluations yesterday. What took her so long to do so was her father passed away. I feel bad that she lost her father but she felt bad for not faxing my evaluations and I told her that it was completely understandable. But now when I go to look at my tasks on remedyehr.com it says that they need my 6 months dietary supervision papers before I can have my first appointment GRRR so I sent yet ANOTHER email to them asking what is going on because I sent them with my packet and the woman didn't mention any of that in her email about paperwork missing. I swear going for lap band you have to jump through sooo many hoops lol but its worth it in the end -
Good luck tomorrow keep us posted

First Pre-Op Appointment
Krystyneh replied to Krystyneh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
They have all the stuff they need from my doctor, nutritionist, psychologist all of that stuff. Once they get that then they schedule your first pre-op visit with their nutritionist and nurse practitioner. I've emailed them (they use remedyehr.com) and no reply back from 3 days ago...I'm getting impatient and anxious and nervous lol -
Insurance Will Only Pay For 80% If They Approve
Krystyneh replied to Krystyneh's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yeah well it is state insurance so it covers a lot of things 100% but I have had to jump through a lot of hoops. I'm still waiting for my first of 4 appointments before I even get my surgery date. They still have to approve it and everything. I'm getting anxious and nervous and impatient lol -
Okay so if I understand what the woman told me is that my insurance, if they approve me for lap band surgery, will pay 80% of the surgery and then I'll be left having to pay $11,000. Now I'm waiting on a settlement from the lawyer so that should be about $12,000 but I really don't want to have to pay that much. What are other options? I'm also not sure if $11,000 is what I'd be left paying or if she meant that they will pay 80% of $11,000. I'm waiting for the woman to call me back to tell me exactly because if all I'm left owing is $2,200 then okay that's a little easier to deal with. What are other options for me though? I know a lot of people say Care Credit but I already have a credit card through them and I still haven't been able to pay off $1,000 in the last year and now I'm up to owing them $2,250 because of how high the APR% is GRRR. I'm getting so frustrated because I finally am in the process of doing everything. I could have told my husband not to insure our daughter and I under his insurance and kept my state insurance where they would have paid 100% of the surgery but I don't feel right to do that to the state. Someone else in the state of Vermont needs state insurance more then I do. I guess I'm just going to have to start saving up and if I have to wait until next year to get surgery then that's what I'm going to have to do. GRRR why does it have to be sooo frustrating. But seriously is there any other choices? I know that my surgery has to be paid IN FULL by the day that I have surgery.
