    Tight Clothes Question

I had a lot of discomfort for a few weeks after my surgery with tight clothing. My insides felt very heavy (especially when lying on my sides) and certain clothes were absolutely painful. I'm no doctor but I wouldn't think it will hurt your new stomach but I wouldn't blame you if you chose different clothing from here on out.

    Surgery Tomorrow

I'll be 1 month post op on Wednesday. I started freaking out a couple of days before surgery. I know now it was just cold feet. You need to have a positive outlook going into surgery. A positive outlook will help you get through the first couple of weeks when, honestly you will probably feel like you may have made a mistake. But I promise it gets better!!! I get more comfortable and happier with my decision every single day. Cynthia
  3. I went through the same exact thing. I knew in my heart though that I really needed to have something drastic done because I was losing and gaining repeatedly and I was SOOO tired of going from diet to diet. My friends told me I didn't need anything as final as surgery, but I really wanted it. I knew I could lose a lot of weight by just dieting but I had gained it back so many times.... At first, I was SURE I wanted the surgery. A few days before surgery I started to have doubts. I started thinking something might go wrong during surgery, that I might die, that GOD may be against my having surgery. Now, 4 weeks down the road I can say that I'm glad I have had the surgery. The first week or so afterward I was really thinking I had made the wrong decision. And sometimes (when my family is eating pork chops) I still hate that I can't eat "normally". But I know it will get better and I will find other things besides food to enjoy. If you have gotten this far being sure that you want this surgery and you're just now having second thoughts I would say that you are getting cold feet. Your friends don't live in your body. Maybe they don't have weight issues so they can't possibly understand or maybe they are afraid to have surgery. My good friend was really against my having surgery because she just felt I wasn't big enough (she's heavier than I am). Now that I'm losing weight she is having 2nd thoughts, she's actually looking into the surgery for herself. Having a positive outlook is essential so my advice is to make up your mind and stick by your decision. Go in to surgery with a great attitude and feel good that you are doing this for yourself. A few weeks of pain are nothing compared to the years of not dealing with the fat anymore. Good luck!!!

    Preparing To Prepare

I would really recommend cutting out sugars and carbs. You will most likely be put on a low-sugar, liquid diet before surgery. It is AWFUL, I cried & cried during those days. Start trying out Protein shakes soon, though your taste will change after surgery and you might have to just choke them down, you will need to have an idea of which ones you can even tolerate. Best of luck to you on your journey!!!

    Taking Time Off Work?

My surgeon told me that I would be allowed to work if I had a non-strenuous job after 2 weeks. I have an in-home childcare so I wasn't supposed to begin again until after 4 weeks (due to all the lifting, running etc..). But I waited 3 weeks and I feel good enough so I've begun accepting my children back. I even lift my 4 year old who weighs 40 lbs. Please don't tell my surgeon that though. lol

    Super Saturday Weigh In

Today I'm finally under 200 lbs!!! 198.4 this morning. That's 31.1 lbs since pre-op diet which began 6 weeks ago.

    Well, I Did It!

Awesome! Congratulations!!!! I bet you felt exhausted and exhilerated at the same time.
  8. I'm SO guilty of doing this. I ate too much, too fast tonight and had to race home sliming out the window all of the way then I really lost it when I got home. I am just not totally in the habit yet of eating small bits and slooooowing down. I'm also here to admit that I sucked the flavoring off of Cool Ranch Dorito chips and threw the chips in the trash. I just wanted the salty taste soooo bad!
  9. Today I have enough energy to hang out with family and friends outside all day long. I am now able to eat a little bit of cottage cheese, a little bit of yogurt, plenty of Water and even a small sliver of cheeseburger patty. I'm down a total of 25 lbs today (including that which i lost during the pre op diet). I can actually say that I feel pretty good about my decision to get surgery. Cynthia
  10. I had surgery this past Wednesday. I woke up soooo weak and dizzy. When I got back from a doctors appointment I was starving. Since my doctor gave me better pain meds I feel pretty decent. But it seems that I cannot go without food any longer. So, in a 5 hour period I ate: 3 oz Protein drink 12 oz Water (in small sips) 1 cup of the liquid from a can of Progressive Light Beef Stew quarter cup of prepared potato flakes with gravy (probably less) half of a sugar free popsicle I don't feel any worse than I did before I ate all of this. I've been receiving sharp pains since yesterday in my chest (my doc feels this is swelling in my esophogus) and pain in my new stomach even when I just sip water. But I am afraid I may stretch out my new stomach. Is this too much food for my first week? Will I hurt my new tummy? Is anybody else hungry on day 5? Cynthia
  11. My doc put me on "purees" today. I refuse to put anything but smoothies through the blender. But I am allowed soft scrambled eggs and flaky fish as well. Tomorrow I've decided to begin a food journal in order to keep better track of my protein and calorie intake. I hope that will help me get a handle on my intake. Recently I'm barely eating anything. It just hurts to eat much of anything.
  12. Today has been a little better. I'm so afraid that I might over-eat. The pains in my chest haven't gotten any better but I do have an appt with my surgeon on Friday. I only pray they don't decide to re-admit me to the hospital. I don't think I can do it all over again.
  13. Hi Topgun, Thanks for your response. I am concerned that I am not eating enough Protein, but I can't seem to find any Protein drinks that don't taste like powder on my tongue. Cynthia
  14. I just got back from the hospital this afternoon. So far, I'm not experiencing a lot of reflux or nausea after eating. Of course, I'm only eating a couple of ounces of full liquids every once in awhile. My largest incision is very sore and tender. I'm also experiencing a pain in my chest. The doctors say the pain is not my heart but my being full. He explained that this pain will go away later but right now my esophogus is very swollen and every bit of intake SLOOOOWLY moves into my stomach. While reading the forums I'm remembering things such as, "no sugar added" foods and not to eat while drinking. Am I supposed to be following these rules right now? I can't eat yogurt and take in some Water? Or is this rule only for those who have advanced to real food? I'm really sick of feeling so awful. I am not sure I made the right decision. Their were others in the hospital who got to go home sooner after their weight loss surgeries. The pain is pretty bad. The meds they gave me wear off too quickly. Also, my daughters birthday party was today, my husband served hotdogs and hamburgers and of course cake was involved. I didn't eat a bite. But I sooo wanted it. I heard I can get really really sick if I don't stick with my doctors plan. Did anybody else crave food so soon after surgery? Thanks for any adivce you are willing to give. Cynthia

Please Help Im Post Op 5 Days

I had my WLS last week on Wednesday. My doctor was very clear that if I were to begin feeling weak I should begin drinking water (1 oz at a time) 4 ozs per hour and get in some protein at the same rate. You could be dehydrated. Did you do a pre-op liquid diet?

    Nsv At Jcp

    Totally awesome!!!!
  18. Smiley, I am having the same feelings. I was sleeved last Wednesday and got home from the hospital yesterday. I'm exhausted and miserable. I am going to try to go walking this afternoon but for now I spend a lot of time in my bed. I am a side sleeper too but it's so hard to sleep with my swollen tummy protruding out. So I toss and turn a LOT! We will get through this. I know I have had surgeries in the past (kidney stone removal, etc) and I cry after every surgery wishing I hadn't followed through with it. I can't wait to see how both of us feel in a few weeks. Cynthia

    I Am Out

Congrats Carly! I had no catheter, thank God. But when I woke up after surgery I was automatically hooked up to delauded<(sp) intravenously that I had control of with a push button. Good luck! You will be back home before you know it.

    Neverending Gas

I'm 4 days post op and I'm having lots of gurgling and rumbling as well. I know this sounds gross but I'm glad when I get rid of a little gas, even though it often hurts. I figure I'm still pushing out some of the gas left inside by my surgeon. My doctor didn't tell me to take GasX strips, but I read about it on these forums and sent my husband for a box. They do seem to soothe the gas pains and rumblings. It's so hard to drink the protein shakes all of the time. I actually liked the vanilla shakes before surgery, now they taste so weird. It makes me feel better knowing that somebody else is having the same symptoms.
  21. Thanks so much for your input. My doctor prescribed a powered form of Nexium which i'm supposed to reconstitute in Water and drink. I'm scared to death of taking a liquid medication. During my hospital stay they prescribed liquid Loratab, I threw up immediately after swallowing it. The pain was incredible. If the Nexium has the same chemical taste, I will throw up again. I also have Nexium in capsule form...I'm supposed to take them after I take all of the liquid Nexium. I'm thinking of skipping the liquid and simply taking the capsules. He allows me to take Tylenol 3 in pill form, and they go down fine. Should I try the liquid Nexium? Should I go straight to the capsules??? I'm so afraid of throwing up again. Cynthia
  22. Got back from hospital today! I'm sleeved!!!

  23. I'm sooooo excited, and a little anxious. I've worked and waited to get this surgery for the past 3 and a half months! It will be very nice to get to the other side. I'm ready to lose a LOT! Tonight I'm reading through posts about what to take to the hospital. Pray for me!!! Cynthia

I've been having second thoughts lately. I'm getting too close to my surgery date. I think I'm getting wet feet. I'm scared.
